Night descends, and the evening wind is slightly cold.
Yu Jingrong, drunken and nauseated, crouched by the roadside, heaving violently as though she was attempting to regurgitate her heart and lungs.
Why does everyone seem eager to drown her in alcohol—like that's the only way to exact revenge on Li Chengyun? It wasn't her who wronged him back then. Why should she be treated like this now?
She still remembers that day three years ago—their two-year anniversary. She prepared a feast, but what awaited her upon his return was his bluntly uttered two words: "Break up!!"
The sudden change had her shivering slightly; she clenched her soft, white fingers, and felt her blood rush upwards.
They had been okay before this. He'd even mentioned marriage, so why did he suddenly say he wanted to break up?
A suffocating tension filled the air. She stared at him, dumbfounded, for a long while before she was able to pull herself out of her daze. Biting back anger, she agreed, "Fine, I agree!!"
As soon as her words fell, he upended the table. Their shared apartment became a mess as if it had been raided. The sudden noise rattled her, and she had to hide and quake in the corner of the room.
Li Chengyun stared at her—his gaze colder than ice, tinged with a desperation she could not comprehend—and slowly walked towards her.
That day, he was like a demon in the dark, almost wishing to kill her right then and there.
The next day, when she woke up amidst the chaos in the room, he was no longer there. He didn't appear in her life again after that.
She knew she had been abandoned by him. Yes, abandoned by him.
But today, on their reunion three years later, why was it made to look as though she had abandoned him?
Shaking her head to dispel the memories, Yu Jingrong allowed herself a mocking laugh—so hideous it looked like she was crying—then slowly stood up clutching her waist.
With the alcohol emptied from her stomach, she felt somewhat better, yet the cold came creeping in right after.
She hugged her arms against the chill and trudged forward, her mind a haze and her blurred vision unable to perceive the path ahead.
Suddenly, a black sedan pulled up next to her. A man, dressed in black, stepped out, opened the back seat door for her, and said reverently, "Miss Yu, please get in the car."
Yu Jingrong reflexively stepped back, showing no intention of complying and even attempting to sidestep him.
But the man didn't intend to let her go; he quickly intercepted her and signalled her to enter with a 'please' gesture.
Casting a glance at the slightly ajar door of the back compartment, and eyeing the cold man sitting inside, Yu Jingrong lowered her gaze and got into the car.
Resisting was useless and insignificant to this aloof and proud man.
He was so assertive, commanding, overbearing, and decisive. When he set out to accomplish something, other people's intentions didn't matter—they were to be annihilated!!
