It is strange to wake up to movement, even more so when there is nothing keeping you from falling off. He could hear the excited yips of Azure and Lapis running around on top of Tortuga. He could feel them shifting acting like sailors on a ship.
He looks up, expecting to be a distance away, he find they aren't to far away from the cave. The scary part was they were now near the death bush. The tortoises head reaching out and stripping leaves. It seems like the bush wasn't moving at all, he was almost unsure if it was scared or was natural.
Syren looks down at him with a little smile, warning him to not go off. He shakes his head a little, happy where he is either way. His head drops down, watching the tortoise eat, seeming to have no care in the world. Syren prods him, "It is friendly, give it a moment to respond."
The wolf cub nods, looking for something that ties them together, planning to follow the easy route his mother usually provided. It wasn't hard to figure out there is nothing that tied them yet.
It was a chance to practice communicating without being astral form. He tries to imagine tossing a fishing line into a pool of water and catching on. It wasn't hard to do, but it took a bit of time for him to catch, just like fishing, to the mind.
He can tell he is connected to Tortuga, it was a strangely elderly geniality. Friendly, not hard to get along, but slow, taking time to think. Though, it made more sense to call the tortoise an it. It didn't require anything but itself to bring about more. A strange thought when you are used to genetic diversity.
Of course, the tortoise didn't really mind the probing, happy to have companions. It didn't seem to have any problems with the questions asked.
The wolf cub first thought to ask, "How old are you?" Which brought about the response showing moons and suns, after guessing a little, I miss some and know I guess at least a few dozen changes of the moon, the sun was a consistent presence.
Now, the changes weren't waning gibbous or waxing, they were more physical changes. The tortoise had seen it before there was a carved line through the center. And it felt like the moon then was almost new in it's mind. The fact that the large creature thought of it as new, wasn't to hard to guess, when your lifespan seems to be measured by the decade or century instead of the year.
Now, when he saw the change to the moon, he asks the tortoise what is happening, looking upon the instance. It wasn't actually something impressive, like a massive battle, it wasn't even a good reason, it was just an extremely strong being accidentally moved to fast, striking the moon, it was closer to. The moon was huge compared to the normal size.
It was amazing, the tortoise wasn't a font of knowledge, more of experience, having seen many things, but never actually looking for them to study. It had gone to the end of the world once, and with that, learned the plane still experienced growth, more land slowly pushing outwards with each day. It was amazing at the fact, reminding him of the expansion of the universe theory. It wasn't certain if that would mean all universes did the same.
The wolf was silent as he takes in this information, closing his eyes, even though what he was seeing with was his mind for the moment. The tortoise slow dining habits still stripping the leaves from the bush that he was still scared of.
His mind now moves to something more practical, what brought it there. That was almost as interesting an instance, where the tortoise was planning to lay eggs. Which actually lead to a discussion on mating habits with Tortuga, who definitely didn't mind explaining. The tortoise mentioned that every so often, showing the sun and moon again, causing him to guess around 100 years. Tortuga would feel like it was time for it to find a place to call home for a period.
The period, surprisingly, lasts for about a year, short in comparison to most things with the tortoise. It didn't need a partner to lay eggs, and there was no need to worry about protecting up the clutch, usually buried deep under ground, with a shell as thick as the parent shell. It seemed like one parent could be treated as the tortoise, and the other parent the parent. The wolf nods in understanding, taking to call the tortoise and it since there wasn't a distinct gender with it then.
He decides to move a little on the shell, watching Azure and Lapis playing a measure of King of the hill. It was hard for them to keep up top, but they were careful not to roll off. It sort of looked like kids rolling down a hill yelling and screaming.
Nadia and Syren were both lounging in the sun, mostly working as buffers to the pair playing around. He however moves to look at the bush. Staring at the death bush, like it would suddenly pop up whipping roots and branches around. Most of them had been stripped by the ravenous tortoise. Strangely, there is some buds on the leaves, seeming ready to produce new leaves where the old had been, seeming to already be ready to feed the glutton.
There was almost a strange symbiosis between tortoise and plant, the new buds would produce leaves to feed. He could tell that the tortoise, in exchange, was releasing something, it wasn't something focused, more just fed out at higher levels, seeming to let out into the ground. The grass and trees nearby seeming to have their own chance to gain from the pair.
For the moment, Tortuga didn't seem intent to stop, and the pack wasn't going to move off until they knew they were a bit further off. The slow pace seeming almost hypnotic, as he continues to watch, and in some unconscious way, was starting to learn a little from the old tortoise.
Well, was trying to get more chapters ahead of time, wound up instead using the day I had ahead. Hopefully I will have more soon. And thanks for reading again everyone.
Accidentally forgot to hit publish on this.
