Kapitel 134: Chapter 133: Space Pirates

The DSSD data library was vast, essentially a gigantic server housing various data. Seeing that Selene seemed uninterested in helping him choose and was standing idly by, He Kui had to connect his portable computer to the server himself.

There was a plethora of technology; as an organization that must remain at the forefront of global technology, a wide array of technological directories was laid out before He Kui.

Arranged in chronological order, the latest research quickly appeared before He Kui's eyes.

"Propulsion System Category."

Although he knew the ludicrously exaggerated propulsion system from his memory wouldn't be there, He Kui couldn't help but click on it.

As expected, the photon pressure system wasn't present.

But that was normal; even if DSSD had it, they wouldn't store it here.

"Electromagnetic Propulsion System."

The electromagnetic propulsion system was also being researched by ZAFT, using electromagnetic fields to accelerate plasma and generate thrust.

However, the research here was more detailed and nearly at a practical stage.

Seeing He Kui delve into this technology's research, Selene frowned deeply.

"Because the thrust of the electromagnetic propulsion system is much weaker than ordinary propulsion systems, we abandoned this project."

He Kui didn't respond immediately, instead contemplating.

If the plasma were crudely replaced with positrons, it would generate massive energy; they already had methods to generate positrons, and they weren't making propulsion systems.

They didn't have to consider propulsion efficiency; they just needed the annihilation energy from positrons to explode outward.

Though replacement wasn't that simple, it was feasible.

The particle acceleration and control in this technology could potentially lead to positron cannons.

"I'll take this."

He found a gem.

"Director He."

Selene couldn't quite grasp whether He Kui wanted just the electromagnetic propulsion system or its potential.

Viewed in isolation, the electromagnetic propulsion system had minimal use outside of water, mainly reducing battery consumption.

They didn't know ZAFT was researching positron cannons, but Selene recognized the technology's potential, albeit faint.

Seeing He Kui's determined expression, Selene could only sigh.

It's a pity; if He Kui could really join them...

But she knew it wasn't possible. ZAFT wouldn't let him go, just as they wouldn't let people go.

They were the sponsors; they absorbed talent, not returned it.

Those who stayed mostly volunteered to explore deep space from the start, uninterested in worldly conflicts.

As for He Kui's musings, they remained thoughts.

If this were truly a utopia, he might consider it, but they were easily influenced by external forces, and the research output wasn't really theirs.

After exchanging a few words, He Kui was about to consult Representative Ge for final confirmation when the entire space station trembled.

An alarm quickly sounded.

"What happened?"

Selene was bumped into He Kui's arms. Despite the fragrance, he had no inappropriate thoughts.

"Sorry, I don't know."

Upon leaving He Kui's embrace, Selene activated a wall-mounted communicator.

"What happened?"

"Selene, space pirates!"

The communicator from the control room relayed urgently.

"Quick, head to the shelter."

The communication then cut off.

"How far is the shelter from here?"

"About three floors down."

"How long can this place hold?"

"To prevent space pirates, the outer wall uses layered armor; it should hold for a while."

Selene calmly explained, but the data library's lights dimmed, leaving only the independently powered servers. The energy supply had been hit.

Ordinary pirates wouldn't be this professional, knowing to target the power supply first.

It was likely disguised regular forces or deserters. The problem was, with few battlefields now, where were deserters or routed troops coming from?

Thinking, He Kui activated his wrist communicator. Luckily, the space station still maintained some signal.

"Representative Ge, are you there?"

"Director He? I'm with the director and others at the shelter. Don't worry."

As the director, it seemed there was a direct path to the shelter.

"Understood."

Relieved to hear the representative was safe, He Kui exhaled.

Although not a combatant, abandoning his boss and running wasn't an option.

He had to show some effort.

"We can't make it to the shelter in time; let's head to the hangar."

With the internal low-gravity mode failing, they floated upward.

He Kui retrieved a Haro from his backpack, extending two small thrusters from its legs.

The Haro's abdomen released a safety rope for towing.

Though not powerful, it could serve as emergency propulsion in space.

"…"

Knowing it wasn't the time and that her persona didn't fit, Selene resisted the urge to comment.

"Did you bring a mobile suit?"

"What else?"

Realizing her question was redundant, Selene followed He Kui to the hangar, where Tie Bi awaited. He said nothing about the extra person with He Kui, quickly ushering them in.

"What's the situation?"

"They're breaking in. Outside are a Nelson-class, a Laurasia-class, several Moebius units, two GINNs that don't look like GINNs, and a Strike-equipped CGUE."

Just as they spoke, the port door, reinforced with layered armor, was breached by consecutive beam cannon shots, overheating and failing.

But their captain wasn't idle; activating the light shield, the cannons' shots were blocked by the shield.

Without the shield, they would have been finished.

"What is that?"

Amidst lingering fear, Selene was shocked by the glowing shield outside.

Indeed, DSSD had no intelligence on this; He Kui's development was recent.

"Light Shield System."

He Kui explained, exchanging a glance with Tie Bi.

"We'll sortie; Director He, stay here."

Tie Bi suggested that with the light shield, even against elites, the limited numbers meant they could survive with Tie Bi protecting them, even if DSSD's station was destroyed.

"I'm going too."

The representative was still in the station; if He Kui didn't sortie, it would affect his evaluation from higher-ups.

And seeing Selene's anxiousness, it was likely she had family there.

The custom GINNs outside looked intimidating but performed similarly to their Strike-equipped GINNs.

One tan GINN resembled an artillery type, while the other, with exaggerated red and blue leg thrusters like ski-equipped GINNs, was likely a high-mobility type.

The remaining unit was an ordinary Strike CGUE, all equipped with beam rifles.

Even the Moebius units had beam rifles.

But they were only at the level of regular redcoat elites.

And the light shield's range was extensive; as long as they stayed inside, they were fine.

Surely the opponents weren't idiots.

With that thought, He Kui boarded his CGUE with Haro.

"Wait."

Following He Kui, Selene floated to the menacing CGUE and joined him without hesitation upon seeing two seats.

"Why are you coming?"

"DSSD is my home."

Selene's calm words left He Kui speechless, so he asked another question.

"Can you pilot?"

"No, but I understand a CGUE's structure. Though yours is different, I can assist with navigation and targeting."

"Alright, then help connect Haro."

Tossing the black Haro to Selene, He Kui began the startup checks.

"You developed assisted driving for Haro!"

Recalling their nascent project, Selene had to admire He Kui's foresight.

"Sort of. It's still in the research stage, not intelligent enough."

He Kui didn't hide the fact. Seeing his virtual screen showing a 3-point favorability increase, he continued his checks.

Meanwhile, under the opponent's attack, the Nazca-class ship, with its light shield active, methodically exited the port.
