The reaction I got from the class was expected, they stared at me as if I had jumped down from a UFO. They murmured among themselves, as I joined at the end of the year. After a little introduction, the class starts. Classes went on one after another. I didn't talk with anyone, neither anybody tried to talk with me. Whenever there was free time, either I would write my notes or read a book. I was standing under a tree, waiting for the driver. Now I felt how Adam will use to wait for me. Kicking the snow under my feet, I was lost in a book when a 'beeb-beeb' sound distracted me. Closing the book I walked to the car, Adam was already in, I sat beside him into the back seat.
Without paying much attention, I resumed my reading. Hearing a sound I looked around, windows were closed. After a minute or two, I heard the sound again.
"Adam, did you hear anything?" I asked.
"No." He replied quickly.
I heard it again and this time very clearly, it was a meow of a cat.
"You brought a cat?" I asked.
He didn't reply, ignoring my question. I moved closer to him and saw he was hiding a kitten beside him.
"Adam!"
Lifting the kitten in the hands he showed it to me. "Look, it's a little Kitty."
"From where did you get that?" I asked
"From my school's playground."
"You cannot just randomly bring any animal from anywhere." I paused and continued. "Its mother might be searching for it."
"No, it was alone." He looked at me. "It's cute and lonely, how can I leave it alone." He pleads.
Again his drama began, I have to admit it's cute, white with blue eyes. I guess it's soft too.
"It's not me now to give you permission, ask brother," I said moving back.
"You like it." He brought the kitten close to me.
"I do, but from far. Do not bring it near to me." I said.
"Just touch it, it's soft."
"No, give it a bath first."
"It's not dirty," he said, patting its head.
Glancing at him once, I continued my reading. Its meows turned louder now. I looked at him through the corner of my eyes, he was kissing it.
"Adam, do not kiss it." I snapped closing the book.
"Why not?" He asked, holding it close in his wrapped arms.
"Because it is dirty and you'll get its hair in your mouth."
Wetting his lips, he said. "No, I didn't get any."
"Gross! Adam." I said, he shrugged.
When we got home, brother wasn't there. We were welcome by uncle butler. I should ask his name.
"What's your name?" I asked directly without any hi or hello. Did I sound rude?
"Abel." He replied.
"Ok," I said, went into my room and laid on the bed. Holding the phone in my hand, I was thinking about whether to call or not. Dialed the number, I was staring at the screen with my dancing thumb in front of the call button. She will not pick it up.
"Levy, how do I give it a bath?" Adam flew open the door and entered with the kitten in his hands.
Ending the call log, I opened Google to know how to bath a cat.
"Levy I am asking you." He said.
"I know." I stood up and went to the bathroom, Adam followed me.
Filling a little tub with warm water, I told him how to do.
"I am not helping," I said and left the bathroom.
I went downstairs to prepare something to eat. Thanks to our butler Abel, who did that already. Taking a random book from brother's room, I started reading it. After an hour, I went into my room to see how and what Adam was doing. When I entered the bathroom, I almost slipped and managed to stand on my feet holding the basin. The whole floor was covered with soapy water. What did he do?
"Adam!" I went into his room, which was adjacent to mine.
"Not my fault." He said, raising hands in the air.
"Then? Are you going to blame that kitten."
"Yes, cats don't like water. It ran all over the bathroom."
"So, you splashed the water all around."
"Yes, until it was wet." He said then added. "How can I catch it and put water at the same time, two hands are not enough for that."
"You want more 5."
"Not now, next time," He said and displayed the kitten. Displayed, as if it was an award. A white, clean, soft, and dry kitten.
"Wow!" I fake clapped and dragged him with me. "Right now, I need two more hands to clean my bathroom."
"Not fair."
We were in the bathroom cleaning it. I was wiping the soapy water and asked Adam to swash clean water on the floor.
"Levy." He called me. When I turned to face him, he threw a jug full of water on my face. Turning the wiper towards him I splash the water on him.
"I threw the clean water and you threw the dirty one." He snapped squeezing his T-shirt.
"You started," I said and dragged the wiper towards him.
"No." he tried to escape.
Instead of cleaning, we're running in the bathroom, chasing each other with a wiper or a water pipe. Within this running on slippery tiles. "Ouch!" I fell back hitting my elbow.
"Old levy falls in the bathroom." Adam laughed.
"You're not supposed to laugh at someone's fall," I said, straightening into a sitting position.
"Need help." He asked with concern in his voice and walked towards me.
"No." I stood up.
"OK," He said, taking steps backward while folding the hem of his jeans. "Good luck with remaining cleaning." And ran out.
I sighed and cleaned the bathroom. After having a relaxing bath I went into Adam's room, he wasn't here. The kitten was sleeping soundlessly. I crouch down and look carefully. It wasn't sleeping soundless but was making a sound like a car engine. Adam came in with a bowl in his hand. Placing the bowl in front of it, he crouched beside me.
"What should we name it?" He asked.
"You're not permitted yet to keep it."
"Brother is not as rude as you, he'll allow it." He said nonchalantly.
"I am not rude." I glared at him.
Ignoring my glare he asked again what to name it.
"Marshmallow," I replied.
"That suits it." He exclaimed which awakened it.
Later, we were waiting for brother to have dinner together. I called Ayra, she was with her friend in a boutique. Adam was watching tv while I was reading a book. Nothing seems much different like always it's just Adam and me. I called Mrs. Jaffary today, as predicted she didn't receive it.
"Hello!" Ayra said, pulling the book from my hand.
"Hey, when did you come?" I asked.
"While you're busy reading." She replied, keeping the book away.
"There was nothing else to do." I stood up, she hugged me.
She's full of hugs.
"And you, stop watching tv." She offs the tv, gaining Adam's attention.
Jumping from the couch, Adam dragged her with him. "Oh! Come with me, I have something to show you."
"What is it?" she asked, following him.
"Ayra, can I use your phone?"
"Sure." She threw the phone at me before Adam could drag her to his room.
"Thanks." I caught it and dialed Mrs. Jaffrays number.
Pick it up.
And she did.
"Hello, don't hang off the call," I said, she replied to my hello and waited for me to speak.
"I didn't call to talk about any company." She might cut the call, so I didn't mention my name.
"I just want any contact of Loren," I said.
"Who are you." She asked.
Why does she have to ask that?
"A friend," I replied. And an obvious question again, name?
I thought for a while to lie a random name. But she doesn't seem like a woman who'll give his number to a random person.
"Levy," I replied. And that's it, beep! call ended. Crap!
I wanted to throw the phone on the wall, but it wasn't mine. Placing it carefully on the table, I was going into my room when Adam and Ayra came with the kitten in Ayra's hands. And that's when brother came too. Adam was ready to convince him and was asking me to do so. I shook my head in response only to gain a glare from him.
"Brother-" He began but was interrupted by Ayra. She showed the kitten to him. "Isn't it cute?" Taking Adam's side.
He nodded.
"I found it-" Again Adam was cut by brother this time.
"I know."
"How?" I asked.
"Driver told me." He replied.
"A driver reporter too," I said, a bit loud.
"What?" He asked.
"Nothing."
"So, can I keep it?" He asked.
"Only if, you'll take responsibility for it." He said.
"I will." He said with twinkling eyes and a grin was not leaving his face.
While we were having our dinner, Adam hit my little-injured elbow with his. "Ouch!"
"What?" I asked.
"See, he's not rude as you."
"Shut up and eat."

It's been more than a week since we have moved here. Like every other day, I was waiting for the driving, leaning back against the wall, beside the gate. When an unexpected, highly impossible and unbelievable thing happened. I stood there stupefied, my brain was slow to capture the words that left his mouth. Trying to grasp what he told, I was staring at him, who declared himself as my 'father'.
••••••••••••
The puzzle about the father will be solved soon, thanks for waiting :)
