Hunter pushed open the front door, completely exhausted from the day's relentless work. A marathon meeting that ran into overtime, coupled with a mountain of emails, had left him feeling like a ragdoll stuffed into a too-small suitcase.

The house was shrouded in silence, the quiet stillness a clear sign that Delilah and Jessica had already retired for the night.
