85% UNDER HIS AFFECTION / Chapter 17: TUNE FOR REVENGE

Kapitel 17: TUNE FOR REVENGE

" Come to think of it now, you kind of look familiar..." Trudy pointed right before Phoneix could answer her previous question. "Ah~right!" She shouted on an impulse.

" The lady who came with them the last time" Phoneix completed the words in sync and they both chuckled at the end. It seem their telepathy was ignited by the click of memory.

" Well~" Phoneix continued at this point. She didn't know how to go about it but she defintely didn't want to directly spill the milk about her marriage or relationship between Del and herself but then, she needed to be smart enough to get enough info as she wanted without trouble~she thought.

" There's no need to be alarmed, they're both fine." She sounded more confident than earlier. " Their marriage is in a couple of days and we're planning a suprise video, commerating their love journey."

" Really?" Trudy sounded more excited and anxious than she had anticipated. She seem to fantasies such love fantasy. But then, Phoneix felt the better of it. This would make her request easier to get than she had thought.

" How can I be of help?" She instinctively asked before Phoneix could word her request. This found her shocked for a moment~she didn't anticipate she had easily give in like that but then, she needed to act before she caught unto her.

" Can I get any memoriable moment they had over here on clip?" She sounded composed and in control of her thoughts. Trudy's brow creased in a bit of a frown and Phoneix noticed. " Um, it's okay if you're...."

" Right!... I think I got one." Trudy cut in her words. "Huh?" Phone looked perplexed and confused at her sudden outburst. Her fingers clenched in Trudy's as she giggled with excitement.

" Wait here, I'll be with you shortly." Phoneix blanky nodded a yes with a sheepish smile attached to her face. If you should ask her, Trudy was clearly a depiction of a fan-girl. She seem to be rooting for these two for long. Her gaze remained fixed on Trudy who soon diminished into the door which read, STAFF ONLY.

Shortly after, Trudy came running in with a small video recorder. " I think I got something in here~so glad I took a couple of videos that day."She expressed the moment she neared their table.

" Let see... what I've got" She smiled and settled right next to her. Phone waited patiently as she scrolled through a couple of videos. " Here..." She leaned in and Phoenix felt her heart sunk. " The whole restaurant was reserved for the occasion" Trudy explained." I was so happy for her but...a little jealous." She giggled and Phone feigned a smile. They were all lovey-dovey.

She instinctively checked the time and date on the video. " 24/ 04/ 2023, 11: 30pm" It read.

It was Bertha's 26th birthday, she could remember. She had planned a surprise birthday party with Levi at her apartment but she dropped in very late at dawn– they were fast asleep on the counch when she came in. She couldn't reach Del too the whole night either.

" I'm at a meeting... let's talk later." He later sent a message . Bertha also apologized for missing out on her surprise party.

" I'm so sorry, Phone... I had to work in late ." She had told her and she foolishly believed their lies. For how long had they been deceiving her?– Phoenix fought back tears.

"Will this be okay?" Trudy asked and nodded with thanks. " You're such a life saver." She answered.

After picking a copy of the video on a card, Phone headed off to the hospital. " I'll make sure to return the favor " She promised as she hopped on her ride.

" No worries, glad I was able to help." Trudy howled as she waved back to her. Before long, she arrived at her destination. Levi and their parents were in her ward when she entered.

"Phone..." Her mother wrapped her in a hug." You don't know how worried I was." Kalisa cried.

" So sorry I scared you again." She apologized. Just then, Denzel walked in. " You're finally here." He greeted from the entrance as he approached. Their gazes now fixed on him in anticipation.

" I've got good news." He continued. " From our observations so far, she's all good now and can return to her normal life."

This brought great joy and relieve to Phoenix and her family. This was truly a miracle she had never expected. " She'll just have to visit from time to time for her routine check up." He briefly added.

" I'll go get your documents sorted~congratulation, baby girl" He robbed her head with a smile and Phone chuckled as she knocked off his hand.

" I'm no longer the little baby girl you've been bugging around." She teased and they all laughed.

" You wish..." He laughed." See you later. I've got to go now." She nodded. They watched his back head out of the exit with gratitude. Soon everything was done and Phone was discharged. Levi and Mr. Stanley helped park her stuff into the car.

Before long, their car seized out of the lodge and they were off. Within a few ride, Phoenix dosed off. " What had she been up to?" Levi thought as he glanced at her from the mirror.

Zaylee had looked everywhere she knew for Irish but no sign of him. She'd contacted a few friends of his but no one had fair knowledge of his whereabouts and this got her even more nervous. It's already past 7pm.

" Have you had any news of him?" She said over the phone.

" Nothing yet but I'm still looking ..." Dave assured over the phone." Don't get too worked up, I'll let you know as soon as I find him."

" Alright, let's keep in touch." With that, the phone went silent. She was about to head out of the house again when her father called from the stairs.

" Going somewhere?" He asked as he descended. He was all dressed in an official black suit. Two men followed with their communication mediums all plugged in their ears.

" Um, not...really?" She continued on an impulse. " Need any help?"

" Well...the Mayor invited us to his son's birthday celebration last weekend, have you forgotten?"

"Oh, that?~ Is it tonight?" Zaylee sounded quite unwilling and disappointed. She had wanted to go in search of Irish once more but couldn't turn down her father either. " I'll go get changed..." She mumbled and hurried back to her room.

*********

It was well past midnight. Phoenix was returning from the washroom when she heard her phone ringing. Who could it be?– she thought. Could it be Del or Bertha? Maybe the two were up with another lies. She guessed as she neared the bed.

To her surprise, it wasn't either of them but Irish. " Is everything alright?" She mumbled, dropping the towel on the bed. " Hello?"

" Hey, Phone" He giggled like a child and She immediately knew he was drunk. " Are you alright?~where are you?"

" Me?" He paused. " ROCK AND JAZZ " He said.

" That's about 30 minutes from my end~I'll be right over." She said and the line went dead. In a rush, she picked out a black jeans over a black blouse and headed out.

" Hey, where are you going this late?" Levi called as she raced past him at the hall without noticing. But the cold silence came as an answer. All he could hear was the sound of the car which zoomed there after.

" Hey!!!" He yelled from the balcony but Phoenix was far gone. The backlight of her car faintly flickered in the distance.

Kapitel 18: HIS SCARS

The party was more of a political and investors annual gathering than a mere birthday celebration for a Mayor's son. Zaylee observed.

CEOs, political leaders and other high society leaders flooded in with their children~sharing pleasantries among others. Even though she was a lover of fancy celebrations and high class associates, she wasn't really a fun of political related alliance. They easily bored her.

" Zaylee, meet Mr Foster MacCline, he's with the Prosecutor's office." Her father introduced and she feigned a smile, lending out a hand for a welcome greeting.

" Nice to meet you, Sir..."

" You've grown so well...you were this little when I last saw you." He said with a broad smile. " This is my son, Ferdinand. He just came down from the States." He further explained and Zaylee nodded, wearing the best smile she ever had.

" Kindly keep him companied while your father and I attend to the Mayor 's call."

" Sure, my pleasure." She said. The two were soon left alone by themselves. At first, it felt awkward but then, they soon managed to break the ice. They were in a heartfelt chat, beginning to learn about each other when Zaylee's phone intruded.

" Sorry, but I need to attend to this." She said when she noticed the caller. He quickly nodded to her request and Zaylee made to the exit, excusing herself.

" What's up...any news?" He heard her say as she headed out. Her back soon dismissed into the corridors.

" ROCK n JAZZ, you'll find him there." He said over the phone. " I'll head right over." She headed off to the parking lot.

" What of your dad?... You know he'll make a fuss about this when he finds out you're gone."

" Stop nagging already, I'll handle that later." Zaylee said, dropping the line before he could say anymore. " The keys." She asked the driver who objected.

" I don't want any troubles with your dad, my lady."

" What if I sack you before that?" She threatened and that's when he hesitantly handed it over. " Thank you." She said with a smile.

" I'll be back before you know." The car soon zoomed out of the residence and already veered down the street. He quickly made up an excuse to issue if she missed out on her promise as said.

After making sure the door was properly locked, Phoenix hurried into the inn of ROCK n JAZZ. The place perfectly depicted it's name.

The dance floor was packed with couples and individuals, jamming to the tunes of Rock tracks at the background. The DJ definitely knew his job– Phoenix could testify.

The disco light busily danced along to their energy. It was hard to make out a person you knew from a distance. She scanned for a while before finally fishing out her patient.

" There you are." She sighed. Irish was sitting right in front of the counter of the bar attender. His head rested over the layer. " Sorry for the trouble." She greeted the attender with a broad smile. And he nodded with a wave.

" No worries, ma'am...he wasn't causing any promblem" He pointed out. Phoenix was relieved to know that.

" Mr. Irish ?" She called, lowering her head over his. "...It's me, Phoenix. I'm here. Let's go."

" Right, let's go home." He sprung up, all clumpy, knocking over the chairs and a couple of bottles. Phoenix was early enough to catch him before any further destruction.

" Easy...I got you." She said, supporting him over her shoulder. He was so heavy for her but she managed to lead him out to her car safely. " Watch your head." She gently guided him down the door so he wouldn't bump his head.

After a few struggles, he laid fast asleep at the back seat. Zaylee caught the sight of the two as she pulled the car into the lodge. She didn't know how she got to know of his whereabout but she wasn't so pleased about it. She was the one who was supposed to be with him not the other way round. Zaylee fumed.

She had wanted to jump in on them and slap the bitch out of her but considering his father's reputation and hers, she suppressed her anger and decided to let it go. All she wanted was his safety and as far as she was with him, she knew for sure she had nothing to worry about.

Phoenix hopped into the driver's seat and wheeled the car out of the place. Zaylee waited till it wasn't obvious for Phone to catch on that she was been tailed before stepping after her.

Irish kept mumbling words after words which she wasn't clearly catching on. Their car was soon caught in a traffic at the intersection as the traffic light turned red.

" Mum...mum, please wake up" the words came in a breath and soft sobs. Phoenix glanced back at him and was saddened. " Stay with me, please.." He robbed.

" How much pain have you endured?" She thought. Her mind wandered far that she didn't realize when the lights turned green. The horns from the cars behind knocked her to reality.

" What the hell is she doing?" Zaylee roared. But then, she saw her hand wave up in the air.

" Sorry!!" She apologized, rolling off.

Minutes later, Phoneix finally pulled up in their car park and that's when she noticed Levi still at the balcony. Zaylee who stopped a few distance away from their fence, stalked from afar.

" What's going on here, Phone?" He asked but she ignored him, sauntering over to where Irish was. She opened the door and helped him out. Levi was surprised to see Irish so dead drunk.

" What happened?~ why are you with Mr Irish, looking like this?"

" Are you a detective or something?" She asked, quite upset and stressed with all his questions. " Can we do this later?" She asked on an impulse. " Kindly help me out here first."

" Fine...I'm coming." He headed down to assist her. Zaylee watched their backs disappear into the house before heading back to the Mayor's house.

Mr Standford was about to ask Ferdinand of Zaylee's whereabout when she called from behind. " I'm right here." She said, her face lit with a smile. " I stepped out for a while."

" The Mayor asked to see you." He explained.

" I'm here now...shall we?" With her arm wrapped around his, they both headed to where the Mayor stood with his family.

Even though Del had totally fallen for Phoenix's memory lost story, Bertha had her suspicions about it. She felt Phoneix was playing some kind of tricks and might strike at any moment.

For this fact, she decided to strike first before she even think of doing anything against them. If she could set a scandal or get anything against her, it wouldn't be hard to get her completely out of the picture." She thought.
