Valerie knew that the only way she would become a Luna of this pack was if she was mated to Alpha Denzel, but that possibility was long dead the moment he rejected her. Alessia was Alpha Denzel's sister as well as the beta.

She was indeed doing a good job, so Valerie had nothing against the arrangement. Alpha Denzel would only be found wanting if Alessia found her mate, and he wasn't a member of this pack. It would mean that she would have to live wherever her mate was, which might break Alpha Denzel a little.
