Sophia transformed into a streak of ice-blue lightning, darting in a single direction. She ignored the divine core on the ground and the energy remnants scattered around—things that were worth a fortune in the superhuman world—because in her heart, there was something far more important to do.
Blood still stained the corner of her mouth, and the golden light burned in her pupils, giving her eyes a striking blue-gold hue that was stunningly beautiful. Her destination was clear—Black Horse Stadium!
With just a little over the agreed-upon three hours remaining, all the divine fetuses had been found, and some had even been destroyed. The remaining fetuses, which still posed a threat of a god's descent, were now under the watchful eyes of Cain and other top-level experts, so there was no longer any worry of the battle spreading to the academy.
Even if, in the worst-case scenario, all these protective measures failed, Sophia was determined to see Liam. It was she who had secured his spot in the academy, she who had brought him to the Eastern Academy! She could not accept anything happening to Liam. If any accident occurred, she would blame herself for bringing him into this perilous situation.
So, from the artificial river to the stadium—over two thousand meters—she covered the distance in less than thirty seconds. But when she reached the entrance, she found her steps faltering with nervousness. Please, let him be okay...
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and stepped through the stadium doors.
Upon entering, she found herself in a completely different world. The place resembled an ice palace! Liam's ice was different from Sophia's ice-blue—it was a pale color, but it felt even colder, more indifferent. The ceiling was no longer visible, replaced by hanging icicles that made the place look like an icy cavern.
The ground, the basketball hoops, and the badminton nets were all covered in snow and ice, making it impossible to discern what they once were. Bodies lay scattered on the ground, frozen in place like sculptures. The faces of the divine servants, still twisted in violence and cruelty, were now permanently encased in cold, unfeeling ice.
The scene resembled the aftermath of a palace coup in an ice kingdom. Scanning the wreckage, Sophia finally spotted Liam.
A large dent marred the main load-bearing wall, where a figure was pinned by a long spear. Before him lay countless fallen figures.
"Liam!" Sophia cried out, her heart skipping a beat. In a flash, she was at Liam's side, so quickly that she shattered a divine servant ice sculpture in her rush without even noticing.
"Don't scare me! How are you?" She cupped his bloodied face in her hands, her voice trembling and on the verge of tears. For a moment, she forgot she was the Frost War Goddess. She felt like she had returned to five years ago, to the day she first entered the academy—a lonely and frightened little girl who knew nothing.
Her mind went blank, and as the worst possible outcome seemed to be unfolding, she had no idea what to do.
"Hiss... Don't touch me—it hurts. Is it time already?" Liam opened his eyes, recognizing the familiar face before him, and quickly spoke.
In truth, he wasn't in much danger. Leaning against the wall, he was simply exhausted and needed to rest. He wasn't on the brink of death. He had already sensed Sophia's arrival, so he allowed himself to relax, no longer needing to brace himself for the next wave of enemies. With that relaxation, all the tension left his body, leaving him feeling unusually weak.
"You're not dead?!" Sophia exclaimed in surprise.
Liam: ...
It seemed this woman was still struggling with how to phrase things.
"Not dead... yet. We agreed on three hours, but you're the only one who came back. Old Mo isn't keeping his word."
"We need more money! I didn't expect it to be this bad—it hurts... damn!"
Sophia's gaze shifted downwards, and she finally noticed the long spear embedded in Liam's chest. Due to the ice, the wound had stopped bleeding, but the weapon still glowed with a golden light, clearly infused with divine power, and continued to infect the horrific wound.
To her, this wound looked fatal. Hearing Liam still having the energy to joke, Sophia panicked:
"You can still joke about this?! Don't move, I'll find a superhuman with healing abilities right now!"
But just as she was about to turn away, Liam stopped her.
"No need. Just be careful and help me slowly pull out the spear. Just make sure you don't hit my heart."
"How's the situation outside? If it's not looking good, you should go back. I'm actually fine here."
Sophia turned back, shocked, wondering if Liam had lost his mind.
"Pull it out? Pulling it out will cause more damage and excessive bleeding. You can't pull it out!"
Hearing her concern, Liam raised his hand, touched his nose, and said:
"I don't know if you'll believe me, but my ability... well, it mutated again."
"This time, it significantly enhanced my body, including my healing ability. If you pull it out, I'll heal quickly. Didn't you notice that I don't have many other wounds?"
Sophia: ???
It mutated again!?
This was getting out of hand. At this rate, energy chains would become the ultimate superpower, randomly mutating into some godlike function.
Walking over to Liam, she took a closer look. Despite his tattered clothes, covered in blood and dirt, aside from the piercing wound in his chest, there really weren't any other injuries.
Examining him carefully, Sophia blinked in shock. The man before her never ceased to surprise her.
Carefully, she braced herself against the wall beside Liam, controlling her strength as she began to slowly and steadily extract the spear.
"When I was coming back, I let the others know I was here, so Dean Mo and the rest stayed to keep fighting," Sophia explained as she worked, both to inform him and to distract him from the pain.
"Haha, it's actually good that you're the only one who came back. At least no one else has to see me like this."
"I must look really pathetic right now—not a good look at all."
Liam grinned despite the pain, trying to lighten the mood. After all, with his clothes in tatters, covered in blood and grime, and his hair in disarray—he remembered that some of the hair on the right side of his head had been sliced off.
Even though his demigod body was powerful enough to heal him as long as he wasn't killed outright, it couldn't instantly regrow his hair.
"No!" Sophia suddenly said, her voice serious.
She looked directly into Liam's eyes, and their gazes met in the air. With utmost sincerity, she said,
"That's not true. You're not pathetic. You're super cool right now!"
