100% Together, Forever? / Chapter 3: School. ~pt 1~

Kapitel 3: School. ~pt 1~

I woke up to my alarm but noticed something strange. There were slight dents in the carpet that came from the window. To my surprise, it was still locked and didn't have any evidence to have been tampered with. Many would have not noticed this small detail, but I see the small things. The room smelled of flowers, but I did not own anything that gave off such an aroma.

Where was it coming from?

I shrugged off the unfamiliar yet pleasant smell to start my daily routine. I brushed my teeth and tongue before swishing around a rather powerful breath freshener inside my mouth. It tasted nothing like bubblegum; It was more of a watered-down pepto bismol. I showered soon after, washing my face, ears, then neck for the first cycle. I rinsed the towel some and repeated the process for other parts of my body, working my way down.

The flowery scent was still in the room after I finished freshening up for the day. It was as if the smell was being injected into the room directly, but there was nothing out of place. Deciding to ignore it fully, I dressed in a black long-sleeve shirt with blue butterflies accompanying it. My pants had a butterfly of the same color and size between the beginning part of the thigh and waist. My shoes were the same blue as the insects decorating the shirt.

I grabbed my broken phone and earbuds before leaving my room for the day, walking down the hall to see a fully prepared backpack on the stool.

"Here, honey. It's prepared with your supplies." My mother gave me the bag after picking it up. It seemed kind of heavy. "We got all we could with what we had left from the bills." She told me, a pained smile on her face.

"I appreciate it, Mom. It does not matter how much I have. I know you and Dad try to do what is best for us. I will try to get a job and help out as soon as I can." I gave my mother a warm hug, my head on her chest. Her heartbeat soothed me without fail during our hugs. I loved the idea of being close to someone I cared so much about.

She went silent for a moment. "You will be late, young lady. I prepared breakfast for you to eat in the car."

I nodded and made the white backpack was properly on my back before grabbing the plate of food. My mother stopped me for a few moments, forcing something down the sides of my new bag.

"Water. You will need it to regulate your body temperature since it will be a bit warm outside later on."

"Oh, thank you, Mom. Is Dad at work?" I asked as we walked out of the house and to the car, my mother locking the door before following.

"Yes, he.. He left for work early this morning."

What is with the sudden change in the atmosphere?

"Is something wrong, Mom?" I asked with curiosity, turning my attention to the older woman who had entered the vehicle moments before I did.

My mom stayed silent for a few moments before answering the current question pending. "No, everything is fine. Why would something be wrong?"

"You are acting a bit weird. Ever since dinner last night you have been acting like something bad happened. What is going on?" I pushed further, but I was met with silence once again.

The car started after the click of my seatbelt was heard, symboling that I was now safely secured. The drive to school seemed slow as I looked out through the window, wondering how many cars that were the same color, and how many of them I could spot simultaneously. My mind began wandering back to the short conversation my mother and I had before the drive started. I did not understand what was happening, so I decided to text my father. Maybe he could help sort things out. Once texting him, I noticed that the message did not go through when I sent it. Apparently, the number no longer worked. What was going on? First, dinner was silent and awkward. Second, mother has been quiet and not herself. Third, father's number is not available any longer.

It's not like I could ask her why since she would just close up again.

As I became engulfed in my own min, I did not notice how we were in the school parking lot only a few minutes later. My mother had to shake my leg a bit to bring me back to reality.

"I know you are confused, maybe even worried, but I assure you that everything is okay..." my mother began. "I will tell you when you are ready. There should be someone named Jade who will be with you until you grasp the new school. She is a.. family friend, and it is okay to trust her. Have a good day at school, honey. I love you."

I became more confused by her words, but I trusted that she would tell me when the time was right. "I love you too, mom. I will call and let you know how things go. What if I need to step out or if I get too anxious?" I asked suddenly, making my way out of the car to avoid taking too long for the individuals behind us.

"Trust Jade.. she will take care of you."

My mother did not answer anymore of my questions after that. She waited for me to get out and close the door before speeding off.

Where was she going?
