“If that’s what you want,” I replied, figuring that was probably the safest bet.
“It is,” she assured me. “But there is one thing I want even more. For you to tell me why you are so insistent on leaving us.”
I sighed and knew there was no reason to continue trying to play the game. It was time to finally come clean with my thoughts on them.
“I don’t want you and Kevin to split up. Especially, not over me. You guys have been together for so long it would kill me to know that I was the reason for you guys to break,” I admitted shamefully. “I’m not a homewrecker. I’d rather leave and never see either one of you again than for that to happen.”
“What on earth made you think that was going to happen?” Alyssa asked in shock.
“Kevin got so mad when he walked in on us at the office. Then you seemed so hurt when you came upon us out at the beach,” I explained. “I know we shouldn’t play without the other knowing. That it wasn’t fair but-”
