After the tent was set up, they all sat down to eat. The meal was roasted meat from giant mutated rabbits that they had caught in the past. Kate was never bothered to keep the meat from majority of giant mutated animals.

So, Kate would only keep some of them that were killed cleanly. It was definitely not her or Kyle's attack because their attack's lethality was simply off the charts. They would cause the giant mutated animals to rot or to turn into ashes.
