Kapitel 105: As cold as ice

There were several speculations among the surviving scientists about what caused the drastic changes in the climate. Some believed that it was due to the hydrogen bombs dropped on Keppler, while others attributed it to the factories that mass-produced machines.

Copious amounts of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and several kinds of heavy particulates were being released into the air every day. Even the rivers and lakes were being treated as dumping grounds for toxic effluents. All these factors contributed to destabilizing the environment and interrupting the natural seasonal cycle. 

Now there were no clear distinctions between summer and winter. Sometimes it was scorching hot on the surface, while on other occasions it was cold and windy. The volatile and unpredictable weather conditions gave rise to many anomalies. The acid rain was just the beginning of their problems.
