Kapitel 3: The Village

Before we knew it, the sun was slowly climbing into the sky, painting the ground a soft purple as we started to make our way to the village. The streets are packed; everyone seems to be having the same idea, heading in the same direction. Most of the time, this would be concerning for a newcomer. But not when I have someone who can help keep me alive for a little while longer. With each step I take alongside Tallmen, I can feel a weight lift from my chest, and I almost think I'll actually be ok.

We soon arrive at the gates to the village and are immediately met by many guards, and even more villagers. Tallmen and I nod at them as we step past and enter the village. Once we pass through the gate and onto Main Street, Tallmen tells me to avoid any human contact. He turns to me and says quietly, "Stay with me here. Don't talk to anyone unless I specifically ask you too. Do you understand, Mr. Lee?" He takes a hold of one of my hands and leads me towards where I assume the city center would be. Looking around, I spot Duke's mansion. All my life, I've been dreaming of living in such a place. But now, I'm not sure if I'll ever have the opportunity to go.

"You alright, Lad?" Tallmen asked, concerned. I didn't realize how silent I've been since stepping foot into the city. "Yeah. I'm just fine." I answer quickly before turning my attention to the crowd of villagers in the distance. I see many familiar faces. The people closest to the palace are mostly merchants, nobles and royalty, but it seems most everyone from the city has come to celebrate the beginning of a new era.

I smile slightly at how happy everyone seemed to be; especially in the company of the royal couple, Duchess Lavinia and Prince Jaron, who seemed to be engaged in conversation amongst themselves. A few of the villagers notice Tallmen's presence, giving him a friendly wave and a warm grin. The sight of them makes me smile. The people in this village seem to care so much. It made me feel welcome within the small town. But something feels different about the citizens here... "What do you want to eat, Lad? I'm sure that you're probably hungry, and I know I'm starving." Tallmen looked over to me, waiting for my response. "Uh... I don't know, anything sounds good right now."

"Alrighty. Let's take a walk down main street. They'll have food at the inn." Seeing the street decorations and lights made me feel comfortable. "So that's why they call the inn 'The Inn of the Stars.' The name sounds rather fitting." I say and Tallmen nods.

The main street was crowded with people rushing through the streets. Merchants were selling goods on every corner. "You can choose whatever you like." Tallmen stated. Turning towards one of the stands, he orders dessert, then pays the owner for it. We walk into the inn across the street and he sits on a bench. Offering his hand to me, he speaks, "Come sit down, Lad. Relax. I want to tell you all about the events that happened during your journey here."
