Topaz groaned as his body protested his movements while he stood.
'Man, Nova really didn't hold back. Even with my massive amount of aura, that final hit knocked my aura down by 55%!' He thought. 'If it was anyone else, their aura would have shattered several times over.'
While that sounds incredibly strong to the point of over exaggeration, it is not. Due to Nova's semblance, she can store an incredibly large amount of explosive/fire energy inside her body to increase her strength. Due to her weapon being focused on fire and explosives, she kept getting stronger and stronger the fight kept going on. Usually, her semblance acts like her aura and covers her entire body all at once, spreading the power out equally.
However, at the end of the fight, she concentrated all of the power she stored into one place, creating a massive surge of power in her fist. Enough to have the potential to destroy a building in one go!
Now then, how did Topaz manage to counter this and land a stronger blow? The answer is simple: He didn't.
While he put all of his power into the strike alongside the gravity dust that increased the striking power, it was barely 70% the amount of power in her fist. So instead, he angled his sword enough to where it would strike her fist enough to catch the momentum behind her strike before moving down her arm and striking her shoulder at the last second.
The downside to that plan was that he had to take the rest of the energy head on, which obviously hurt.
A lot.
Topaz looked down at Kitsune Fang.
"That's not good." He muttered.
Near the middle of the blade, the blade seemed to crack outward like a web with small pieces of the blade actually either gone, barely hanging on, or the smaller pieces were falling off still.
"That's going to take a bit to repair." He also looked at his right hand and noticed something he somehow missed. "Also a new shirt and gauntlet."
In the final collision, his right grey gauntlet had been destroyed into several pieces that would be easier to make another version than to try and repair it. And in the collision that sent him flying, the large amount of energy destroyed his black shirt to the point that half his chest was showing and his right arm sleeve had several burn holes.
He carefully placed Fang into the sheathe that he took off his back before slowly putting it back on his back, trying to cause as little damage to his already broken blade as possible.
'Hopefully that was good enough to distract them.' He thought.
He was brought out of his thoughts by a few dust rockets [fireworks] started going off.
He looked across from him to see Nova starting to get back up.
He slowly made his way over before holding a hand out for her.
She looked up through her messy black hair before giving a weak smile.
She latched onto the hand before he pulled her up onto her feet.
"One heck of a swinging arm you got, huh?" She asked.
"Not as strong as your right punch. Nearly strong enough to break through my aura." He commented.
"Let's give one last round of applause for our two fighters!" The announcer exclaimed, causing the arena to be filled with cheers and yells.
"Now, let's get the rest of Stark down here to close the Tournament!"
Topaz let out a weak smile as Nova slowly made her way back to the hall she came from.
"Topaz!" Someone yelled out before feeling something impact his side.
"Gah! Summer!"
"Summer, lighten up. I'm pretty sure Topaz is low on aura. He can't take your rocket hugs as easily at the moment." Qrow commented, causing her to release him.
"Hey! They want to take a team picture for the pictures." Raven called out.
The made their way over before a trophy with the words "28th Vytal Champions" written across the plaque at the bottom was handed to Topaz.
"Say, Champions!"
*Flash*
-------------------------
"Maaaan, you've got one heck of a punch." Topaz complained, moving his shoulder, releasing several small pops.
"Congrats once again." Kali told them.
"Yes, congratulations." Willow spoke up.
"That was amazing!" Sola exclaimed. "The way you keep hitting each other," She demonstrated with several jabs. "And finishing it off with a massive ka pow!"
"I think he knows Sola." Nyte shook her head gently.
"However," Dawn spoke up. "Don't it expect the next Vytal festival to end the same way next time."
"How's Nova?" Summer asked.
"She'll be out for a few hours. The medicals on standby wanted her to rest overnight so she could recharge her aura so she doesn't accidentally pass out during the day." Kali explained.
"Well," Qrow started. "I don't think that Team STRQ will be forgotten until the next Festival."
"While this is nice and all," Topaz started. "I'd really like to get back to our dorms and fall into a coma."
"I'm with you there." Willow told, placing a hand on her side. "Even with aura, I can tell I'll likely have a bruise."
--------------------------
"Goodnight!" Topaz told, flopping onto his bed.
"We need to talk." Raven spoke up.
"Later." He grumbled, his voice muffled from the bed.
"Now." Summer spoke, a certain edge in her voice.
With a sigh, he pushed himself back up until he was sitting up.
"Alright, let's talk then."
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Don't start!" Summer exclaimed, slightly surprising the birds that she was practically yelling at him. "Why did you reveal yourself!? You could have worn your cloak and you would have been fine!"
"Sum-"
"You told us that...that THEY were after you." Summer's usual gleaming silver eyes that showed her excitement could not be found.
In their place, stood silver eyes that were angry at him. No, angry wasn't the right word. She was furious.
"You even warned us of how dangerous they were!" Her fists were clenched incredibly tight by her side. "Are you trying to paint a target on your back and show where you are!?"
'Thank Oum that Ozpin made these dorms mostly sound-proof when the door is shut and the electronic lock is activated.' He couldn't help but think.
"I'm with Summer on this." Raven spoke up. "You tried so hard to convince us that we couldn't defeat them, even as a team. Then you turn around and do this."
"What happened?" Qrow asked. "What happened since then that you decided to throw the caution that has kept you alive for the past 7 years?"
Topaz was silent for a moment before grabbing his scroll.
"Don't ignore us." Raven snapped.
"I'm not." Were the only words he told before finding the conversation. He tossed the scroll to Qrow. "That, that is the reason Qrow."
"Would you care to share with the rest of the team?" Raven 'asked.'
"The reason why I stopped hiding and put myself out there is incredibly simple." He started before looking between Summer and Raven.
No sooner did Qrow curse.
Loudly.
"The bastards already found him!"
The two swung their heads to Qrow.
"What!?" Summer exclaimed.
"When."
"About 2 days ago, according to his scroll. An unknown number messaged him out of the blue."
"That still doesn't explain why you confirmed their suspicions when you could have laid low." Summer told him.
Topaz let out a long sigh, not entirely sure how Summer would react to this information considering how she reacted to them in his story from so long ago.
"I revealed myself because...it wasn't me that they found."
"But Qrow said-"
"They only suspected me at that moment in time. No more than you suspect someone in a costume that they may be trying to hide their identity when they could just be going to a party."
"If that's tru-"
"They found you Summer."
She seemed to have frozen.
"I was warned that they were watching our team because they found out about you. It would only have been a limited amount of time before they found me out as well. So, I decided to give them a bigger target." He took a breath. "By showing I could take an attack that could shatter the aura of most Huntsmen in one blow but continue fighting and defeat said opponent, I showed that I could be a threat to them in the future, making me be a threat that could potentially be more dangerous than you."
A silence fell over the room for a few seconds.
"Or, at the very least, that was my plan."
"So," Qrow broke another silence. "Are you still adamant on preventing us from fighting them with you?"
Topaz rolled his eyes. "We'll talk about that later, right now, we may need to help someone else." He nodded his head towards Summer, who still hadn't moved.
"Summer?" Raven questioned, off guard at seeing their energetic, weapon crazy leader in this state.
She, reluctantly, placed a hand on her shoulder, causing the small girl to almost actually jump.
Summer's eyes ran all over the room, as if looking for something or realizing where she was.
"Summer, do you want to talk about it? You're clearly in distress over this, which is reasonable." Topaz said.
Summer lifted a hand up and pushed back her hood, letting her shoulder-length black hair with red tips be on full display.
While he didn't know if the siblings noticed it, but he noticed that her hand was slightly shaking while the other was clenched and shaking.
"You...You can probably guess that I have history with them, right?"
Topaz and Qrow nodded. Raven opened her mouth, likely with some kind of sarcastic answer before stopping herself.
She let out a heavy sigh as well.
"I have history with them because...a few members of the Bloodied Tails....
....
....
....Are my family."
