Kapitel 3: Scholarships
Akio woke early, the soft light of dawn filtering through his window. He felt a sense of urgency, knowing today was crucial. He got dressed quickly and headed out to find Yuna.
He found Yuna near the market, browsing the stalls.
"Yuna!" he called out, waving. She turned and smiled, her face lighting up.
"Akio! What's got you up so early?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"I need to talk to you about something important," Akio said, his tone serious.
Yuna's smile faded slightly, replaced by a look of concern. "What's going on?"
Akio took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. "I've decided to apply for the scholarship to the magic academy. And I want you to come with me."
Yuna's eyes widened in surprise. "The magic academy? But why?"
Akio explained the conversation he had overheard between his parents and the old man and how he took the offer to get a scholarship.
"Its fine if you don't want to-," Akio said
"Of course I would accept !! I've been dreaming to become a mage for so long!" Yuna said as she cut off Akio.
"That's.. right." Akio thought to himself, it was so long that he had forgotten how much Yuna talked about mages. "Ah.. Thank you Yuna, for accepting the offer" Akio replied

The two of them spent the rest of the day preparing for the scholarship examination. They gathered their belongings and said their goodbyes to their families. The following morning, they set off for the academy, their hearts filled with a mix of excitement and apprehension.
The journey to the academy was long, but the landscape was beautiful, providing a welcome distraction from their worries.
When they finally arrived at the academy, they were greeted by a sprawling campus with towering buildings and lush gardens. The sight was awe-inspiring, and Akio felt a renewed sense of determination.
They were directed to the examination hall, where other scholarship applicants were gathered. The atmosphere was tense, with everyone eager to prove themselves. Akio and Yuna exchanged a reassuring glance before stepping forward to register.
"Good luck," they said to each other
The first part of the examination was a written test, assessing their knowledge of magic and the history of the power system of tears. Akio, despite being the first technical user of tears, didn't know shit, he was lucky enough that the test was in multiple choice format. Yuna on the other hand was answering each question with ease.
Next came the practical test, where they had to demonstrate their ability to harness the power of tears. They were led to a large training ground, where instructors watched their every move.
Akio stepped forward, feeling confident about winging the practical exam. The instructor created a small tear in space for Akio to use. "Imbue the tear with the concept of 'fear' into the tear,"
The reason why each tear's manifestation of the same idea depends on the user is because each user conceptualizes each idea differently. Usually, one would conceive fear as the thing they themselves fear. However Akio conceptualizes fear as something more general. It would rather be easier to be shown than explained.
As Akio imbued his conceptualization of fear into the tear, everyone started trembling. "Is that a spider??" "Why is the room suddenly dark??" "WHY AM I SEEING MYSELF WITH NO BITCHES???" Akio's tear manifested as the fear of every single person in the room, one would perceive it differently from another person.
"Please.. de-manifest your tear.." Said the instructor. And Akio did as told.
Yuna was up next. The instructor created a new tear for Yuna. "Imbue the tear with 'hope'" said the instructor. Yuna put her hands into the tear and a bright light filled the room. The instructor nodded her head in approval.
After the practical test, Akio and Yuna were given a short break. They found a quiet spot under a tree and sat down, their nerves still on edge.
"How do you think we did?" Yuna asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I think we did well," Akio replied, though he couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty. "But now we wait."
The wait was agonizing, but finally, they were called back to the examination hall. The head instructor, a stern-looking woman with sharp eyes, addressed the applicants.
"Congratulations to those who passed the examination," she said, her voice echoing through the hall. "Your hard work has paid off, and you have earned your place at this academy."
Akio held his breath as the names were read out. When he heard his name, relief washed over him. He turned to Yuna, who was beaming with joy at hearing her name as well.
"We did it," Akio whispered, his voice filled with emotion.
"Yeah, we did," Yuna replied, her eyes shining with tears of happiness.
The following days were a whirlwind of activity as they settled into their new lives at the academy. They were assigned to dormitories, given uniforms, and introduced to their classmates and instructors. The curriculum was intense, with a rigorous schedule of classes, training sessions, and examinations.
"Well.. This is quite unexpected, is it?" said the old man. "I'd expect them to fail horrendously. Hmm... Oh! I have a marvelous plan. I just can't wait to see their downfall.."
In the shadows, the old man will watch their progress with keen interest. His eyes gleamed with a sinister light as he murmured to himself, "They're stronger than I anticipated. But no matter. My plans are already in motion."
