THE RECLAIMED ROSE

I have to admit that my husband's true love is a charming woman.
Upon her return, my husband, who claims he knows nothing about romance when he's with me, comes up with various ways to please her.
Even my son keeps clamoring to my face that he wants his father's true love to be his mother.

To them, my only worth is in cooking, cleaning, and caring for them.

Later, an autistic little girl tugs on my clothes and says firmly, "Zachary might not want his mother, but I do!"
Only then do I realize that a rose can still bloom in a dessert. When I finally turn my life into what I imagined it to be, my ex-husband and son regret their actions.
My ex-husband calls and tells me Zachary misses me.
I say, "I'm not his mother anymore."
