43.75% The Pond that Absorbed Me / Chapter 14: THE JOKE.

Kapitel 14: THE JOKE.

"Why did you put these rags on me? The smell is worse than stale slop!" The Prince's frustration was evident as he tried to air his clothes, tugging at them.

The Adviser stood with folded arms, looking displeased. "Can you stop whining and let's move on?" he retorted.

The Prince, sitting on a fallen tree, glared at him. The Adviser's insolence was striking—he acted more like a master than a servant.

"Your Highness, you were the one who came down here to search. I am only accompanying you on your orders," the Adviser reminded him ignoring the tempest raising inside the Prince.

"On my orders, scoundrel?!" The Prince broke off a dry branch and rushed to whip the Adviser with it. "I will show you, on my orders!"

Blow after blow rained down on the poor fellow, who fell to his knees, begging for mercy. "On my orders, then," the Prince continued, not stopping. "You say!"

The Adviser, pitiful and shaking, forced the Prince to pause. "I realized my mistake, my Prince. Spare your servant!" The Adviser's plea halted the assault.

"What a bastard you are, forcing me to educate you. Do you think I want to do that?" The Prince's anger was palpable.

"I gratefully accept your wisdom, my Prince," the Adviser murmured.

"How far is it to the monastery?"

The Adviser, still on his knees, extended his hand in the intended direction.

"Get up already! We need to move forward, but you're stuck here. Why are you wasting my time?!"

The Prince walked ahead, and a sigh followed him—the Adviser rose from his knees.

"We're close, Your Highness. Please curb your anger now and behave inconspicuously."

"Yes, yes, yes. I already look like a beggar, don't I!" The Prince retorted.

"But your speech doesn't match that of a beggar. So bite your tongue and remain silent until we get there!"

The Prince said nothing, ignoring the rudeness, only taking a couple of steps forward. "It's only for Him that I endure such humiliation," he muttered.

The Adviser shook his head and followed.

As they approached the monastery, they noticed a growing crowd near the gate.

"What does all of this mean?" The Prince asked the nearest person.

"They closed the gate and won't let anyone in. They say the Great Master doesn't accept sinners without a chance of repentance. So, here we stand, repenting now…" The man tried to restrain himself but couldn't. "May the Gods punish him with eternal wanderings as soon as he performs his duty!"

Hearing this, the Prince burst into laughter, attracting the crowd's gaze. "Yes, this Master is still such a joker!" he remarked, still trying to calm down, but in vain. The Adviser hastened to cover his mouth with a familiar movement and dragged him away.

Finding themselves far from everyone, they both tried to catch their breath, but the Prince kept laughing every now and then, clearly remembering the recent comments about the Great Master.

"Hey, Lao Jun, do you have any powers at work here? Can you carry us over the wall? Otherwise, if it's me, then in Heaven they'll immediately smell it."
