Kakashi seeing him threw shurikens blocked them with his own.
out of his musings kakashi seen him rushing at him in his smoke-form.
Kakashi took out his tanto givin to him with his chunin promotion.
With him reaching he twirled the blade fast enough to use wind blocking him.
The guy jumped back with a backflip and rushed out taking out kunais.
Kakashi seeing this flipped over colliding his tanto with the kunais.
They had many exchanges in blows causing sparks with their kenjutsu fight.
Seeing an opening kakashi had slashed down trying to cut him in twi but he turned to smoke again and kicked kakashi away.
Seeing kakashi laying on the floor he sent smoke to him to kill him but he did not notice another kakashi on a tree.
Kakashi dissapeared from the tree charging chidori through the blade.
Kakashi appearing behind him pierced it through his chest.
The smoke ninja was shocked then looked at the clone and seen it poofed in a puff of smoke.
The smoke ninja gritted his teeth looking at sasuke saying damn you copy ninja.
After he said that he had died sasuke taking the tanti out and seen it crack he sighed thinking "i need to repair father's white saber"
Looking at the sky kakashi said mission accomplished and dissapeared leaving the area.

It had been over three years since kakashi had went on the mission to assassinate the smoke ninja.
He had become more confident with his current self as he had gotten to the level of strength of during the 4th war but better.
He had worked on many of his weakness such as his stamina,chakra,and sharingan.
For the weakness for his sharingan draining most of his chakra limiting him he made a seal to seal it he even got to the level of being able to turn it off and on in an instant.
With the restriction of his sharingan gone his level of chakra grown to what it was supposed to be kage-level.
But it continuously grows with the training he does.
Also without the restriction of sharingan his stamina or fighting longer in fights grew Immensely.
Even in secret started learning the flying thunder god or hiraishin.
And completed level one and is close to completing level 2.
During those years he had done alot of missions even joined anbu somewhat as he could be called a psuedo-anbu as he is still a jonin and can join in anbu missions when needed.
He had done 1000+ missions 197 D-ranks 237 C-rank 414 B-ranks 323 A-rank 42 S-rank and his total amount of missions is 1213.
Making him ahead of his old amount of missions 1,141 but he is still the 4th most amount of missions under tsunade orochimaru and jiraiya but he will surpass there amount one way or another.
The reason he is above his war arc self is because he had mastered many jutsu such as his chidori raikari and even shiden made a variation of rasengan merging lightning with it like naruto did with wind.
Kakashi has extensively used the gates to get his body used to the effects. he had been able to go up to the third almost fourth gate which strengthened him more.
He was currently training a new technique he was creating well kind of as it involves chidori.
Kakashi standing with his eyes closed was focusing and then his eyes opened violently saying chidori.
The chidori spread over his body like a cloak kakashi with excitement said it actually worked this time.
