Kapitel 49: Chaos (1)

An awkward silence fell like a shroud over the room, as all eyes turned to Mrs. Smith, her words hanging in the air.

Mrs. Wright's smile faltered, her eyes dulling as she fixed Mrs. Smith with a cold, unblinking stare. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice low and even, but laced with a hint of warning.

"Haven't they told you?" she asked, her voice tinged with a mix of surprise. Mrs. Smith's frown deepened as she turned to her husband, her eyes seeking confirmation.

"Told me what? And who are they?" Mrs. Wright pretended not to know what was happening.

In fact, she does, albeit, a little.

Mrs. Wright's mind reeled as she processed the bombshell. Just that morning, her husband had received a call from the Smiths, saying they were having second thoughts about Zoey and Harry's marriage.

She thought they paid them this visit because they wanted to apologize and take back their words, only to be shocked by Mrs. Smith's words.
