Travis watched the battlefield, a typical territory fight between Guilds. Clearly one that was kept under wraps. He wasn't interested in stopping these kinds of battles, only Guilds would profit from them anyway. The rest of the players would find it useless.
The only reason why he was here was because of a small rumor regarding the White Phantom. The previous number one PKer from his timeline. Perhaps due to their legendary nature, accepting the hunting task wouldn't give you their location. Instead it would give you their last known location and leave the rest to you.
Something Travis was incredibly jealous of. Unless he was in a different dimension, his location would always be known.
The White Phantom was rumored to be part of Eternal Candle before, the only lead leading to them. He had approached the battlefield hoping to gain sight of this legendary figure, and perhaps find out more about Eternal Candle.
Nothing is all that could be found. Even though Travis was inspecting the battlefield for quite some time. Although it didn't dishearten him, it wasn't exciting either.
Snippets of players chatting could be heard:
"Did you hear? Guild Leader was assassinated!"
"What?! That should be impossible! He's nearly invincible! I've seen him in action before!"
"Apparently it was a one sided fight?"
"Who did it?"
"Apparently the White Phantom!"
Travis nearly cursed, while he was wasting time here the White Phantom had struck somewhere else!
Yet it was still confusing! Why in the world was Eternal Candle targeting the Guilds? Killing the Leader once doesn't do anything!
He dashed across the fields to gain some distance. There was no point in checking the scene now, the White Phantom would be long gone.
It was all too confusing. The attacks to his fame, the blatant targeting of the Guilds, the assassins sent after him. He was missing a piece to the puzzle, but what?!
There had to be something else, what could possibly be another target? What could be a goal he didn't think of?
Overtaking the top positions of the Guilds will give nothing! Holding anything besides Guild exclusive territories will warrant a response from him. The outrage from people noticing what was happening would not be small.
Travis smacked his lips in frustration, "I didn't want to resort to this, but they're moving too quickly."
'What's the next move?' -Abe
"I know too little, I'm going to have to ask for a favor."
'We're going back?'
"Yeah."
~ ~ ~
"There's quite an outrage about Two Tries."
"What did he do this time?"
"Apparently they're calling him cowardly? He hasn't been striking against the Guilds as much so people think he's now sided with them."
"Didn't we have someone monitor Two Tries? Get their opinion on this."
"Yes sir."
. . .
"Siding with the Guilds? Hahaha!"
"We know you're responsible for monitoring them, what exactly is going on?"
"It seems like chaos is happening. Dot did his job of freeing the players from the Guilds control. Yet they want him to protect them always? It's really funny."
"Dot?"
"Ah you don't know? It's the name Player Two Tries is known by most now. The mysterious hero of the non-Guild Players. Due to his mask he got the name."
"This level of outrage isn't simple to handle."
"Trust me I looked into it. Really they're just angry because they believe their hero swapped sides. In reality it couldn't be far from the truth!"
"We need to handle this situation."
"So you want to do something about this all?"
"Of course, we can't allow drama to prevent our future plans."
"Good luck then, besides directly modifying his account there's nothing you can do. The point he's at now is untouchable by the players."
"We're aware of the possibility that he has obtained third party info."
"I don't think it's third party."
"Care to elaborate?"
"I've been watching him—being the good little employee I am—and his actions do boast quite a bit of knowledge. But not to the point of him obtaining it outside the game. It's like he's familiar with the game's lore and construction, rather than following a set list of instructions."
"How so?"
"His reactions to things that would obviously be told are genuine. Things that would specifically be pointed out, actions he should've taken for the best outcome, he hasn't taken any paths to prove he has a source."
"But he still did several hidden quests at the beginning."
"Which makes me believe a single thing, are you sure this isn't an ex-employee? That's the only reasonable thing I can think of."
"We'll look into that. For now our priority is how to deal with him."
"At this rate the flames might be fanned. He's plotting something, though I don't know what."
"Very well, thank you for your time."
"I'll continue doing my work diligently!"
~ ~ ~
"It hasn't been very long. What brings you here?"
Travis kneeled, "I have come to ask for assistance."
"You? I'm surprised, you always were the kind to take things by your own hands. To push you this far, I have no doubt it's beyond you?"
"I believe I can do it with time, however I have none of that."
"I figured as much. What's the issue?"
"There's been word spreading about me at the Overworld. Yet the current development leads me to believe that something greater is at play."
"Someone's trying to take you down through other means than battle?"
"Yes, along with other prominent groups among the Semi-Immortals."
Flinnder smirked, "Bested by your own kind?"
"Their actions are too fast for me. I need to know their objective."
"So you want information. You do know this comes at a price?"
"I am willing to negotiate."
"By the sounds of things, you're desperate."
Travis remained silent.
Flinnder chuckled, "I jest, but there will be a form of payment afterwards. A favor perhaps."
"I will carry it out."
"Excellent, straightforward like always. Who do you believe is behind this all?"
"An organization that is known as Eternal Candle. However there is a chance it may not be them."
"I'll have someone look into it. Can't have one of my direct underlings fame be torn down."
"You have my thanks."
"Take this."
Flinnder tossed over a small badge, "My informant will find you with this. You should have the information you seek soon enough."
"I thank you again."
"Enough with the pleasantries, we've known each other long enough."
"It is because I know you that I choose to remain like this."
"Haha! Well it would be strange if you talked to me all friendly-like."
Travis bowed his head lower.
Flinnder snapped and changed the subject, "What do you plan to do? With trouble at the Overworld, and the Abyssal Royal Competition for the Baron's is soon. Do you not plan to properly participate?"
It was terrible timing. With his focus on dealing with those who attempted to use him, he had forgotten about upgrading his status, "I'm afraid I lack the knowledge to participate properly."
"I have to agree, still you must attend. If you don't your title will be revoked, an unpleasant thing to occur. It will make me look bad as well."
"I will be sure to be there."
"Excellent, you may go now. My time is almost always taken up. . . ."
Travis stood up and walked out. Examining the small badge in his palm he felt his heart settle a bit. One loose end will be tied up. Once he finds out who this organization is, he will properly target them. Upon revealing it all he won't have to worry about much else afterwards and can continue on his plan.
Storing the bag in his pouch he made his way back to the portal exit.

Yunil measured Givale and sighed, "Normally this would be easy, but since you transform things become infinitely harder."
Givale was a bit confused, "Why?"
"If you expand suddenly then the belt holding the sheathe for your daggers will break. That will just ruin their whole purpose."
"I could make it out of my scales."
"What do you mean?"
Givale changed her outfit to some of her previous tests, "I can change what I wear using my scales. Adding something for my daggers will be easy!"
"That works out nicely. Let me bring out some examples from storage real quick."
"Okay!"
Humming while waiting Givale casually looked about. Mira and Akiol were outside doing something, and Yunil was collecting some items from storage. . .
She lifted her daggers and placed them together, she smiled happily as she witnessed what the daggers showed. Reminiscing when they happened the first time she suddenly lost track of time.
Hearing footsteps she snapped out of her daze. Pulling them apart she twirled them casually in her hands as Yunil returned.
Arms full of various examples Yunil cried, "I can only carry so much!"
"Why do you have so many?!"
"Practice, can't get out of shape with leather working you know?"
Yunil helped Givale with testing various options. Yet in the end Givale chose a simplistic choice to match with her outfit. After a few adjustments recommended to her she placed the daggers into them and smiled happily, "It's done!"
"It's good that you like it. Now if you excuse me I have some work to do."
"Okay! Thank you!"
"It was fun doing all of this with you guys. Tell Akiol to stop by again."
"I will!"
Givale skipped outside, happily showcasing her new sheathes. Yunil watched, a pleasant feeling lifted her spirits, "Perhaps getting out occasionally isn't so bad after all."
She then turned back inside and entered her storage room. Hundreds if not thousands of the same items lined the walls. Like mass produced items left to collect dust. Yunil bowed slightly to them all, "I know what I must do now. Thank you for being there."
She closed the door and locked it. Turning towards her forge she mumbled, "I will be back sooner than you think Master!"
