Kapitel 254: Plans Ineffective

Akiol dodged between several fireballs. Without stopping he moved his leg and kicked an incoming player.

He leaned back and a spear missed his chest. Akiol grabbed it and forcefully moved it, blocking an incoming strike from the Sword Master.

"Come!"

Akiol's attention was drawn towards the player with a shield. Tilia had notified the party of this strange feature, so Akiol already expected this.

He ran directly towards them. The Defender braced themselves to block a strike, making Akiol's next move work smoothly. Jumping over the Defender he then flipped midair and grabbed the helmet of them. Using the momentum he forced the Defender to fall backwards.

A thin beam of yellow light shot directly towards Akiol. He raised Stars and mana swirled around the blade. When the beam made contact it bounced off, as if it hit a mirror.

Arrows fell from above. Akiol easily moved between them, not being hit a single time.

The Sword Master attacked from behind. Akiol leapt upwards and rotated in the air. Before he landed he kicked the face of the Sword Master and caught an incoming arrow.

He landed and tossed the arrow aside, "You guys are used to battle. Mercenaries?"

The leader, the one holding the spear, narrowed their eyes, "So you can deduce that much."

"Every move you make is one of an experienced killer. Every shot was aimed to incapacitate me, or straight kill me. Your teamwork is one you can only gain through experience. Thus two ideas came to mind, either experienced soldiers, or mercenaries."

"So then who are you? I've never seen anyone move so easily between our attacks."

"A guy who's fought more than you can imagine."

"Ha, we've been through hell and back. I doubt whatever you've gone through we can't imagine."

Akiol shrugged, "Believe it or not. Though you aren't used to weapons like these. So the chances of you winning is slim."

"We've been told that before, yet here we are."

"But you've realized haven't you? I haven't made a move yet."

". . ."

Akiol stood in a basic sword stance, "I'll be on the offensive this time."

The enemy team brandished their weapons. The leader spoke, "We won't be testing the waters further."

Akiol faintly smiled.

Three charged forward, a Pugilist, the Sword Master, and the Leader.

Akiol noticed their team lacked a Priest. Which wasn't all too surprising now that he was aware of their occupations. While mercenaries would naturally have a medic, at least the more professional ones, the medics would also be equipped for battle. In A World's Legacy, Priests were considered the weakest class, but the most essential one.

Akiol was the most surprised that one of their members was a Sorcerer, which didn't fit in properly. However he did not dwell on this for long.

The Pugilist reached him first, initiating combat with a punch. Akiol did not dodge this, for he realized the other two were already prepared to counter such a move.

Akiol kicked the incoming arm, lifting it upwards. He then angled his foot and kicked the ribs of the Pugilist and leaned forward. Tilting his head sharply he dodged a stab from the Leader's spear. He grabbed it with his spare hand he turned and swung at the Pugilist.

Whilst holding the spear it temporarily kept both the Leader and the Sword Master from making any moves. The Leader would be unable to attack, the Sword Master's attacks would be forcefully blocked by Akiol.

The Pugilist took a step back and dodged Akiol's sword. He then swiftly approached and aimed a kick towards Akiol's face.

Jerking the spear he blocked the kick, causing the spear to vibrate intensely. Akiol continued his move and kicked at the knees of the Sword Master. The Leader then managed to free his spear and quickly swung it, aiming to slice Akiol's neck.

It brushed past harmlessly, the result of Akiol's movements. The Sword Master followed up with a diagonal swing, planning to lacerate Akiol's shoulder.

Akiol twisted and dodged, the Sword Master anticipated this and his sword twisted. His strike changing from a diagonal one, to a horizontal one.

Akiol ducked and placed his hands onto the ground. The moment the sword sailed past Akiol rapidly extended his body. His two feet slamming into the jaw of the Sword Master.

Akiol bent his arms and boosted himself into the air, dodging a swing from Leader. He rotated mid air and landed on his feet. Unable to catch even a single breath the Pugilist aimed a punch towards Akiol. Too bad their reach couldn't compare to a sword. With a swift strike a gash was formed across the Pugilist's chest.

As if following a rhythm Akiol rotated and dodged a spear thrust, using the momentum he kicked the stomach of the Leader, making them slide back.

Akiol threw Stars, the sword rotated through the air like a plane's propellor. Just as calculated it stabbed into the Leader's shoulder. With a grunt in pain they stumbled slightly.

Akiol slid his foot and moved, dodging a strike from the Sword Master. Using Mana he pulled Stars out of the Leader's shoulder sent it into his hand. He then stabbed the Sword Master's abdomen, their body being lifted slightly from the force.

Akiol shoved the Sword Master off and freed his sword. He watched as the three retreated, holding their wounds.

Akiol flicked the blood off his weapon, and watched.

Stars was full of energy, 'This is awesome! So much better than killing them immediately.'

Akiol ignored Stars words, instead he focused onto where the enemy team retreated. He then realized what the other three members were doing. As Akiol was fighting they had placed traps around the area.

One of the Variants of the Archer class was called Trapper. Designed for ambush and traps, they excelled at indirect combat. Moreover Akiol could sense a few magical traps, these ones more hidden than the physical ones my the Trapper.

Akiol stood at his current position, "A minefield hm? Am I going to have to play a game of the floor is lava?"

"You'll have no choice if you want to kill us."

"Wrong, you have done no damage to me. I can wait out the remaining time and win the battle. You have to come to me."

"Then we will force you over here."

The spear of the leader began to glow and the thrust it forward into the air. The spear tip detached and shot towards Akiol.

It was an easy dodge- or it was supposed to be. The moment Akiol moved to dodge he realized that the spear head moved with him. So instead Akiol lifted Stars and aimed to deflect the attack.

Much to his surprise the spear head did not falter in the slightest once it made contact with Stars, instead it shattered into dozens of small chains and quickly wrapped around his arm. It spread across his body in a manner of seconds.

He noticed that the chains were connected to the shaft of the spear. He had then deduced what was going to happen next.

The leader tugged, aiming to drag Akiol over to their playing field. However when he pulled he realized that Akiol did not budge!

Akiol was surrounded in an orange aura, he shattered the chains around him and gripped the remaining bits connected to the spear, "There are a lot of things in places like this you are not used to. It truly doesn't fit your style."

Akiol yanked the chains and ripped the spear free. As it flew into his palm the chains faded and the spear tip returned. Akiol spun it and stuck it into the ground. The moment the spear made contact with the dirt the Aura around him faded, "Now you have two reasons to come over here."

Akiol picked up a pebble and weighed it in his palm. He then threw it, smacking the Sorcerer directly in the cheek.

The Sorcerer was chanting under their breath, normally no one would be able to hear it. Akiol only noticed it due to the movements of the ambient mana.

Having their cast interrupted the Sorcerer rubbed their cheek in frustration. Akiol noticed the anger in the enemy team. Despite their confidence they hadn't damaged their enemy in the slightest!

The Leader noticed his teams frustration. After all he was frustrated too. All of his plans were shattered, one after the other. It's like his enemy could read minds.

An idea struck him, he whispered to the Defender. He then walked towards Akiol, willingly leaving the space he had the most advantage in.

The Leader cracked his neck, "I must admit, you're giving us quite the warmup. But I'll be taking you on alone from here."

Akiol raised an eyebrow, "Alone? Positive?"

"I am, after all not all of my trump cards have been used."

"So what's the plan this time?"

The Leader rolled his shoulders and his gaze sharpened. His pupils rapidly changed into the shape of a chain link. Glowing patterns of chains spread down his face and onto his body. Around his arms the chains manifested, wrapping around like a snake.

He extended a palm and a chain shot out, wrapping around the spear. With a tug the spear returned to the Leader's palm, "Ready for round three?"

Akiol readied, "Ah a Berserk Skill, I was told they're rare but honestly I expect them more often than not."

"We'll see if you're prepared then!"
