Entering the gap between the cliff their vision automatically adjusted. In fact it was quick enough to raise suspicion. Kan'na raised a finger and a tiny magic circle hovered above it. Squinting her eyes she informed, "The shadows were magic, but why would they want to conceal this place?"
Behind the shadowed entrance was a large lake. Not a ripple of water was shown on its surface. What little light entered the area reflected off its surface. Revealing just how dark and murky the water truly was.
Flapping her wings Neorvil landed in the middle of the lake, "Truly revolting, reveal yourself!"
"Oh. . . to think there was someone still sane. . ."
"Ha! You wouldn't meet anyone more sane than I. Now explain the reason behind this accursed water!"
". . ."
"Gone silent have you? I will not be ignored!"
Raising a wing the lake began to swirl. Neorvil's feathers ruffled, "It's resisting my authority?"
A figure rose from the waters, revealing a stunning maiden made of water. Her face was one of sadness and regret. Her movements were like a slow dance, mesmerizing to anyone who wasn't alert.
She spoke with a voice that was calm and filled with sorrow, "Why have you come here. . . ?"
Neorvil flapped her wings, "This corruption of water irked me. I have come to demand an answer."
"Oh. . . you seek the corruption from the water as well. . ."
"I do not seek the corruption! I seek the reason behind it!"
"I cannot let you have the water. . ."
"Bah! Your mind is as muddled as the lake below!"
"I will have you leave. . ."
<Warning! You have awakened the BOSS!>
<Objective Updated! Defeat the Maiden of the Waters!>
<<Maiden of the Waters (Corrupted): LVL 500>>
Water began to rise, forming swirling lances. They spun rapidly and shot towards everyone present. Neorvil clicked her beak in annoyance, "Do not ignore me!"
The lances paused their momentum and fell into the lake. The Maiden locked her eyes onto Neorvil, "You are also one with water. . ."
"Hmph! Even if this water is corrupted to such a point, it still remains water! I hold the absolute authority over water!"
"This. . . no longer can be considered water. . ."
"Nonsense!"
Lifting her wing she caused the water to rise and form three walls. Moving towards the Maiden the walls entrapped her within. Neorvil proclaimed, "Now explain the reasoning behind the waters corruption!"
"Do not partake in the waters corruption. . . you will be long gone. . ."
Collapsing the water walls submerged the Maiden. Neorvil folded her wings and snorted, "Jarvis, I cannot deal with this one."
A surprised look appeared on Jarvis' face, "What?"
"We are dealing with someone made purely of water, water that I cannot fully control. It would have been easy to separate that woman's consciousness from the water if it wasn't so corrupt. I am sure any other of the sages—except for Whitelash—would have a much easier time than I dealing with this."
"Then can I ask a favor?"
"Go on."
"Could you solidify the surface of the water? It will make it easier to fight."
"That I can do, will you be handling it from here?"
"Not me, the others will."
Wrock was already halfway across the lake, raising his fist he punched the reforming Maiden. The water splashed outwards but quickly returned back to shape.
"Not exactly sure what my plan was here. As if punching the water was going to work-"
Bang-!
A fist made of water slammed into Wrock and sent him skidding across the lake surface. Tilia raised and arm and caught the flying Wrock. With a grunt he mumbled, "Thanks Tilia! Your armor is not a nice cushion."
"I'll think about adding some padding just for you.", Tilia responded.
"Not sure if that would help, but I appreciate it."
Akiol scratched his chin, "Alright pop quiz for the spectators, how do you deal with an enemy made of water?"
'I would absorb all the water!' -Stars
'I would erase all the water!' -Givale
'Separate the water?' -Mira
"All good points, but I think Mira's got a decent idea here. Usually beings made of water have a point of weakness. Much like myself—although I'm made of slime. The real problem lies within finding that point."
'What if there isn't a point of weakness?' -Mira
"Good question! Then we take your answer and put it in a more literal sense. We simply divide the water enough to where we reduce the amount that can be used."
Kan'na asked, "By the sounds of things you're speaking with those two. You aren't planning on doing that again are you?"
Akiol laughed as he remembered his own experience dealing with a creature made of water before. He shook his head, "C'mon now, you don't really think I would do that again would you?"
Kan'na stared directly at him, "You're thinking of doing it again aren't you."
"Excellent insight Kan'na!"
Akiol jumped upwards and above the lake. Unsheathing Stars he shouted, "Brace yourselves!"
{Cataclysm Technique: Tectonic Split}!
BOOOM-!
The lake seemed to split in half. A large gap revealing the bottom of the lake. With Akiol's current strength he was unable to mimic the real thing. However this outcome worked wonderfully as well.
Kan'na sighed, "At least this allows me to work my magic."
Several magic circles began to form in front of her. She worked casually, carefully placing the right runes into the circles. This caught the interest of Corolla, "What exactly is that?"
"I'm creating magic spells."
"Creating?"
"Normal magic is cast by giving vocal instructions to the mana. Using your own mana to form the catalyst around it. I mimic this process by instead giving written instructions. It's much more efficient and allows a lot more freedom."
"If it's that great why doesn't all the Sorcerers use it?"
"A wonderful question! I respond with one of my own: is it easier to learn a language or to remember phrases of one?"
"Oh. So what's this supposed to be?"
"Merely to help me search to see if this Maiden truly has a weakpoint. The corruption should be coming from something. Once I find that the rest of this should be easy."
"Oh. . . why won't you give up?", the Maiden cried out.
The water shot upwards, filling even the air. As they Players were submerged Neorvil huffed, "Nonsense!"
Stepping forward a ripple formed. All the water paused for just a moment, as if freezing time itself. Droplets lingered in the air. The light bouncing through, warping from their shapes. It would've been a beautiful sight if the water wasn't so contaminated.
Plip~
The sound of a single water droplet falling was heard. Ripples extended to the end of the lake. Neorvil watched it all with eyes unreadable, "Rest."
Everyone blinked simultaneously. Akiol had a furrowed brow, "Didn't I just-"
Swinging his sword with an extreme amount of strength he managed to split the lake apart! Although the cut didn't harm anything, it gave him sight to the bottom of the lake.
{Cataclysm Technique: Tectonic Split}!
"Oh. . . why won't you leave?!"
Water swirled into several lances, hundreds formed one after the other. Shooting forward towards Akiol they had him surrounded at all sides. Tilia watched this and raised her hand, her War Sight encompassing Akiol's body. As the lances drilled at the near invincible barrier Kan'na snapped her fingers, "The source of the corruption comes from the bottom of the lake!"
Wrock rolled his shoulders, "Where?"
"I'll ping it for you."
A small magic circle formed and shot a magic pin. It hovered over the lake and pointed towards, bobbing up and down. Wrock eyed the location and nodded, "Tilia!"
"Aye.", she responded.
Flicking her wrist she changed the target of her War Sight to Wrock. This left Akiol unguarded, but he was aware of this!
"[Repulse]!"
The explosion caused the lances to be destroyed. Water splashed across the room and mostly returned back to the lake. Using Spirit Wrock created a pair of wings on his back and shot towards the location pinged by Kan'na, "Going dark!"
"Oh. . . why won't you give up?"
Neorvil raised a wing and settled the waters, "Not on my watch."
Wrock flew through the water, his wings causing the temperature to rise to a boil. With a grunt he murmured, "Using more Spirit than I thought it would. Best hurry this up!"
The Maiden used the water to crush Wrock, but thanks to Tilia's War Sight he was completely unharmed! Zooming down he gained sight of the bottom of the lake. A strange object leaked a menacing aura. Reaching for it Wrock suddenly found that his movement halted.
Whiirrrr~
The strange orb suddenly started to absorb the water! Like pulling the plug of a drain the lake was being drained at an alarming rate!
"Oh. . . why must you seek the corruption. . . ?"
Flapping his wings he freed himself from the vortex and rose to the surface. As he hovered in the air he found that half the lake was already absorbed! Retreating to solid ground he asked, "What happened to the Maiden?"
"She's gone.", Kan'na responded.
Hank's brow twitched, "This, feeling. . ."
Every last drop of water was absorbed into the orb. Leaving a giant crater where a lake once resided. Neorvil inspected the orb with a stare, "Something's coming."
