The tension in the room grew thick as Sevika and her men moved outside, their heavy footsteps echoing through the narrow alleyways. Powder stood close to Sora, her hands gripping her modified Keyblade tightly. Across the room, Vi winced as she struggled to stay on her feet, the pain from her injuries etched across her face.
"You shouldn't push yourself like this," Powder muttered, her voice soft but filled with concern.
Vi waved her off, her voice rough but firm. "I ain't goin' down that easy, P. Survived worse than this shit."
Caitlyn, peeking through the window with her rifle ready, furrowed her brow. "Sevika's got the place surrounded. We don't have much time before they make their move."
Sora stepped forward, summoning his Keyblade with a determined glint in his eye. "We can fight our way out if we have to. We've handled worse!"
Vi snorted, letting out a rough laugh despite the situation as she held Sora back. "Whoa easy there, Mate! You've got guts, I'll give ya that. But this fight? It ain't the kinda shit you're used to."
Donald flapped his wings nervously, gripping his staff. "Yeah, and there's no way we're getting through all of them without a plan!"
Goofy chimed in, ever the optimist, "Maybe there's a secret way out?"
Caitlyn nodded. "There's a service tunnel nearby. If we can reach it, we might be able to slip out without a fight."
Powder, who had been quiet up until now, suddenly spoke, her voice small, anxiety creeping in. "What if we don't make it? What if I mess up and we don't make it!?"
Vi's tough demeanor softened as she turned to her sister. "Hey, none of that, P. You've grown heaps since we were kids. You've got this. You ain't the little girl I had to protect anymore. You're a bloody fighter—always have been."
Powder looked at her sister, the guilt and resentment she'd been holding onto starting to dissolve. Even after everything, she still sought her sister's approval, and now, Vi was finally giving it. Suddenly, the front door exploded inward, the wood splintering as Sevika's heavy boots stomped across the floor.
"They're inside!" Caitlyn hissed, pulling back from the window. "We need to move now."
Without hesitation, Vi motioned to the hatch on the floor, revealing the dark passage below. "Down the tunnel. It's our best shot."
Goofy helped lift the hatch, and one by one, they slipped into the narrow, dimly lit passage. Vi was the last to descend, clutching her side as she fought through the pain. She slammed the hatch shut just as Sevika's crew reached the door.
"They're gonna find us if we don't move fast," Donald whispered, tension raising his voice.
The tunnel was cold and damp, the only light coming from the faint glow of the Keyblades. Sora led the way, his heart racing as he searched for any sign of a way out. Behind him, Powder walked with her head down, her mind consumed by the memories of her past.
Each step reminded her of the streets she once called home, of the night Vi left her. Her heart ached with the mix of guilt and anger she still carried. But this time, she stayed close to her sister, unwilling to let her go again.
Sora slowed, walking next to Powder. "You okay?" he asked quietly, his concern clear.
Powder glanced up, her blue eyes clouded with emotion. "Yeah. I'm fine. It's just... it's been a while since we escaped through a tunnel and bring back old memories."
Sora nodded, understanding more than she realized. "I get it. I know this has been hard for you, but you're not alone this time. We'll face whatever comes, together."
A small, grateful smile tugged at the corner of her lips. "Thanks, Sora."
Ahead of them, Vi and Caitlyn exchanged glances. Despite her injuries, Vi pushed forward, determined. She knew Sevika wasn't the type to give up easily, and if they were caught, it'd get ugly fast.
"So, Sora," Caitlyn asked casually as she led the way, "You said that you and Powder have been traveling together for 7 years, am I correct?"
Sora blinked, caught off guard. "Uh, yeah. We did!" he answered, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
Goofy chuckled. "Yup, they've been close ever since they were tweens! Hyuck!"
Donald huffed, clearly exasperated. "But we've got more important things to focus on right now! Less talkin', more movin'!"
Vi smirked, glancing back at Sora and Powder. "You two, huh? Close when you were tweens and have been travellin' for 7 years. That is so romantic, Mate!"
Powder's face turned bright red. "Vi! Shut up!"
Sora blushed, stammering, "W-We're just... well..."
Vi raised an eyebrow, her grin widening. "C'mon, don't bullshit me. I saw how close you two were."
Powder shot her a glare but couldn't stay mad at the teasing tone. "Yeah, well, you're one to talk. What about you and 'Cupcake' over there?"
Both Vi and Caitlyn froze, their eyes wide with shock and their faces blushing blood red in embarrassment. Caitlyn's head snapped toward Vi. "See! I told you not to to call me Cupcake!"
Vi shrugged, still grinning. "What? Suits ya."
Caitlyn narrowed her eyes, trying to look annoyed, but a faint blush colored her cheeks. "Focus, Vi. This isn't the time."
Powder just walks beside her sister, her arms crossed as a smug grin stretches across her face, "Yeah Vi! You really focus on getting out of here instead of flirting with an enforcer."
Vi only grumbled grumpy yet playfully as she messes with P's hair with her big stocky hand. Sora watched the sisters, their banter reminding him of his many banters with Riku—those carefree moments in the face of danger. It warmed his heart to see Vi and Powder sharing something similar, despite everything they'd been through.
However, the moment didn't last long.
"Wait," Caitlyn suddenly hissed, raising her hand to signal a stop.
They froze, listening carefully. Heavy footsteps echoed through the tunnel behind them—Sevika's men, getting closer.
"We need to move," Caitlyn whispered urgently. "They're catching up."
Suddenly, a deafening crash shook the tunnel. Dust and debris rained down as the ceiling above cracked and crumbled.
Sora's heart pounded. "What was that?!"
Vi looked up at the crumbling ceiling, eyes wide. "That... ain't Sevika's lot..."
Before they could react, the ceiling collapsed entirely. The world spun as the tunnel caved in around them. Powder barely had time to reach out before rubble was quickly about to fall on her, only for Sora to jump in and shove her out of the way. He was able to save her in time, himself not so much as the rubble fell on top of him.
"SORA!" Donald, Goofy, Powder's voices echoed through the dust and chaos, panic flooding them as their friend disappeared under the debris.
Vi cursed, forcing her way through the rubble. "Shit, shit, SHIT! Hang in there, kid!"
Donald and Goofy scrambled toward the pile, their voices frantic.
"Is he okay?!" Donald squawked.
Goofy's usual calm cracked as he shoved debris aside with all his strength. "I don't know!"
In a panic, Powder unintentionally shoves Goofy out of the way and begins digging herself, "Sora!? Are you there?! SORA!!!"
Through the dust, a faint cough and groan emerged. "Y-Yeah... I'm... here..." Sora's voice was weak but alive.
With Vi and Caitlyn's help, they cleared enough debris to pull him free. Sora's face was pale, his leg pinned under a heavy chunk of stone. He winced as they lifted it off him, his breath shallow.
"Sora! Are you alright?!" Goofy exclaimed as he, Donald and P ran to Sora's side.
"I'm fine guys." Sora replied, his voice laced with pain, "It's just a- urk!" He grunted in discomfort as sharp pain surged through his leg like a Heartless' attack. Vi carefully inspected the leg, recognizing the familiar swelling and discolouring of the skin as the bone being either fractured or, worse, smashed.
"Sss! Ooooo, Damn," Vi muttered, crouching beside him. "That leg's fucked up bad."
Powder knelt beside Sora, her hands shaking. "You could've been—"
"I'm fine," Sora insisted softly, placing a hand on hers, his touch calming her. "We've been through worse, remember? Besides, it's only a cave-in."
Vi exchanged a look with Caitlyn. "That wasn't a cave-in," Caitlyn muttered. "Someone caused it."
"Sevika?" Powder asked, her voice tight.
Vi clenched her fists. "Maybe. Or someone worse."
Vi scanned the darkened tunnel, her instincts sharp. "Either way, we need to get the hell outta here before whoever it was tries again."
Donald, still clutching his staff, cast a quick healing spell over Sora, though it only did so much to ease his pain. "That's all I can do right now! We need to find someplace safe to regroup."
Goofy nodded, lifting Sora carefully to his feet. "Don't worry, Sora, we've gotcha."
Powder stayed close to him, her eyes filled with guilt. "I should've seen it coming. I should've—"
"Hey," Sora interrupted, his voice gentle despite the pain. "This isn't your fault, P."
Vi placed a hand on her sister's shoulder, squeezing it firmly. "Kid's right. This kinda shit happens. Don't start blamin' yourself now."
But Powder couldn't shake the feeling of dread crawling up her spine. Every step she took felt heavier, like the weight of her past was dragging her down. She kept glancing at Sora, at the way he limped despite trying to put on a brave face. He had always been the one to carry everyone else, and now he was hurt because of her—or at least that's what her mind told her.
They moved slowly through the dark passage, the tension thickening with each step. Caitlyn led the way, her rifle raised and her sharp eyes scanning the shadows for any signs of danger. Vi stayed close to Powder and Sora, her protective instincts kicking in.
"Whoever caused that collapse," Caitlyn murmured under her breath, "isn't going to stop until they get what they want."
Vi scoffed, but there was no humor in her voice. "Yeah, well, they'll have to go through me first."
Suddenly, a faint clanking sound echoed from behind them, growing louder with every second.
"Ah, great," Vi growled, her fists clenching. "We've got company."
The group turned, and through the dim light, they could make out figures emerging from the rubble. Sevika's goons, some armed with makeshift weapons, others with the telltale shimmer of Zaunite tech enhancements, came into view. Their leader was nowhere to be seen, but the malicious intent was clear.
"Of course," Donald muttered, exasperated. "Why wouldn't they come after us now?"
"Ready yourselves!" Caitlyn called out, taking position with her rifle. Vi squared her shoulders, cracking her knuckles.
Powder steps in front of Sora as she pulled out her Keyblade, though her grip trembled slightly. Sora, despite his injury, summoned his own weapon, the familiar weight of it in his hand bringing a small sense of comfort.
The goons rushed forward without warning, and chaos erupted. Vi leapt into action, her fists a flurry of strikes, each hit sending her opponents crashing to the ground.
"You lot are in for a world of pain!" she yelled, landing a particularly brutal punch.
Caitlyn fired precise shots, taking out those who got too close.
Sora and Powder fought side by side, though Sora's movements were slower, his leg making every swing of his Keyblade harder to manage. Powder, noticing his struggle, stayed close, her attacks more defensive as she tried to cover him.
One of the goons lunged at Sora, and though he deflected the first strike, he couldn't dodge the second. The goon's blade slashed across his side, causing him to stagger.
"Sora!" Powder shouted, her voice filled with panic as she rushed to his side.
Vi, seeing her sister's distress, snarled and tackled the goon, taking him out in a single, brutal punch. "You touch them again, and I'll bloody end ya!"
Sora grunted, clutching his side as blood seeped through his shirt. "I'm fine," he said, though his voice wavered.
Powder's eyes were wide with fear. "You're not fine!"
Before anyone could respond, a loud crash echoed through the tunnel, causing Powder to wince from the noise as everyone froze. A figure, cloaked in shadow, stepped through the debris, their presence looming and ominous.
Sevika.
Her mechanical arm gleamed in the dim light as she stepped forward, a menacing grin on her face. "You're tougher than I thought, Vi. But you can't run forever."
Vi wiped the sweat from her brow, glaring daggers at her old enemy. "I'm not runnin', you metal-armed bitch. I'm gonna end this, Sevika."
The tension in the air was palpable, and as the two women faced off, Sora, Powder, and the others could feel the gravity of what was about to happen.
But just as Sevika prepared to strike, a electric crackle was heard as the tunnel shook again, a deeper, more violent rumble echoing from the depths. The ground beneath them began to crack, and the walls trembled as if something far more dangerous was lurking below.
"Bloody hell," Vi muttered under her breath. "What now?"
Sevika, for the first time, looked genuinely unnerved as the ground continued to quake.
And then, without warning, the floor collapsed beneath them, and everything went dark.
