Kapitel 17: We Are Not Friends

In an unknown region on planet Majhr, six figures in black hoods covering their faces gathered in a dark warehouse with the only source of light being the two moons whose rays managed to pass through a small hole in the ceiling.

The inside was empty apart from the six figures and they were in a heated discussion.

'' Those two idiots got themselves killed by just a mere mortal. '' A thick masculine voice grunted.

'' A mortal who has manifested his Zajra. '' Another masculine voice corrected with a mocking tone.

'' Hmph, so what, to capture a mortal when two Quartz rank Devas are on the move is now considered an astral level task? '' The figure with the thick voice retorted.

'' You too should stop bickering else I kill you myself. '' A dry feminine voice reprimanded and they both cringed in fear.

She seemed to be the leader here and despite sounding frustrated due to the failed mission, internally, she was brimming with joy as she thought to herself.

'' A mortal that can fend off two Quartz rank Devas is no joke. '' She released a creepy smile which the hood did well to cover.

'' And reports reached me that there is a new target. ''

'' hahahaha'' She was laughing thunderously in her head. '' It seems even my star is working in my favour, Finding a mortal that has manifested their Zajra is hard enough not to talk of one that can fend off Devas at the Quartz rank. ''

'' And there is even another target hehe, I'm sure this will bring me a step closer to his lordship. " When her thought reached this point, she could not help but show a hideous grin and her eyes were that of worship and longing.

'' Six of us will be taking part in the next mission on capturing the two targets. ''

'' What! Just send me alone and I will get the job done before you even realize it. '' The figure with a thick masculine voice bellowed.

Some nodded in support of what the figure said. Sending six Devas to capture two mortals was just overkill in their opinion.

'' Shut up! What do you fools even know? '' The dry feminine voice snorted. '' Whoever disobeys is tired of living. ''

The rest drew in cold breaths and nodded, they were all no saints but even they feared their leader.

******

'' Clang ''

Zeralf appeared five meters above the training ground and swung downward with his Kusarigama. The scythe head came crashing on the bots and it blasted into scraps.

A faint golden Ki surrounded his body which flickered on and off.

'' This is not enough. '' He frowned as he pondered over his new technique and its efficacy in combat.

So basically Zeralf was trying to release his Ki into physical form and then made it protect his body like a tight extra layer of skin but he had been failing repeatedly.

This was the seventh day since his meeting with Endra and he had been focused on controlling his Ki which eventually showed saw progress. He could now bring out his Ki but it requires a lot of concentration and that made it not ideal for battle.

He knew he had to keep pushing until he found a balance between controlling his Ki and battling without interrupting one for the other but the bots are just too weak and were not pushing him to his limit.

'' Genzo is not here yet. '' He squinted his eyes when he thought of the next option.

Endra was strong, Zeralf recognized his strength in just their few exchanges and there was that confidence that Endra had similar to his even though his cheeky attitude tried to obscure it moreover he was a sentient being so he would not be as useless as these bots since he could not set them to the marble rank.

Zeralf entered the Portal room which looked as intricate and grand as the one in the Portal station although albeit small.

He felt space twisting and when he opened his eyes, the surrounding had changed to that of another Portal room. This was the closest Portal to Endra's place and it would take him less than five minutes to walk to his destination. Since he used a personal Portal, the portal room he came out from was even grander and well designed compared to those that use the general portals in the portal station.

When he came out, many people that saw the portal he just left were giving him different looks, some reverence while others envy. His midback length white hair lay gently on his black hoodie and his black fitted trouser and boot harmonize to give him that mysterious vibe even though many still saw him as a kid due to his immature face but the coldness and aloofness said otherwise.

When Cyle got them the house in his name, he had given them two residential cards which were needed to grant anyone access to the apartment and to also use the mini portal at the entrance. Endra kept one and the other one was with Zeralf, he slid in the green card and the space warped again.

When he opened his eyes, he was on the 75th floor and he took some turns to reach Endra's apartment. He entered his card without knocking and the door slid open startling Endra who immediately manifested his Zajra and readied for battle.

'' Good reflex and a wary attitude. '' Zeralf thought.

'' Hey white haired. '' Endra relaxed when he saw who it was but he still had confusion and amazement on his face.

'' Don't go around startling people like a damn ghost. '' Endra grunted and sat down. He was in black briefs with no shirt on, as usual, a thick book was on the couch he sat on and he gestured to Zeralf to find a seat.

'' What are you doing with that? '' Zeralf asked in a low but stoic tone.

'' Eh? '' Endra looked in confusion before it clicked in his head. '' Ah this, of course, I'm reading, EDF exams are not just about combat don't you know? '' It seemed Zeralf was really surprised to see him read which made him speak, something he found bothersome.

'' Hey I may not look like it but anything that will get me money, I always put my all even if it is reading shitty books. '' Endra grinned. '' Agents are paid handsomely so no way in hell will I fuckin miss that. '' He proclaimed chivalrously as if he was saying something heroic.

'' Is money all that matters to him? '' Zeralf pondered.

Right from birth, Zeralf was not someone that lacked in financial needs moreover he was joining the EDF for another reason, definitely not for anything heroic but for his personal goals so he was finding it hard to believe that someone would want to join the EDF because of money well of they are capable that was still their best.

When he drew closer to where Endra was sitting with the book on his thigh, he saw the title.

SECHS'THEORY OF EXISTENCE AND THE SIX...

'' Oh, this. '' Endra waved the book when he saw Zeralf looking. '' I heard they ask questions on this damn sechs' theory in every exam hehe, I've been reading this particular book since infancy it is interesting haha, too bad I don't have a primordial Dharma and I am not... ''

'' You said your Dharma is the best, no? '' Zeralf cut in as he was already having headaches with his unstoppable rumbles.

'' What! Of course, even yours paled in many shades. '' He jumped up and retorted.

'' Um. '' Zeralf couldn't be less bothered.

''The first path to becoming a powerful Deva is to have strong conviction in one's Dharma. If one could not believe in his Dharma then what right does one even have to utilize it fully.'' Genzo's lecture rang in his head

'' I didn't remember you being that good friend that would come here to check on my wellbeing. ''

'' Don't go around making an erroneous assumption. '' Zeralf replied flatly. '' We are not friends. '' He said coldly and his golden eyes shone briefly

Endra was taken aback a bit seeing that turmoil of emotions in Zeralf. He knew him as someone aloof and indifferent but seeing him showing emotion over what he just said? Of course, they were not friends they barely even knew each other but he didn't have to be this wary of friendship, no?

'' Psycho '' He muttered inwardly.

Zeralf knew he was being petty but he couldn't care less. Attachment is the root of all suffering, he would not entangle himself deeply with people again.

'' I came here to spar. ': Zeralf finally added with his usual aloofness returning.
