I felt like my world was about to bloom. As I looked at the name of the guy on the number one list, my hope started to grow again. I didn't expect to see him earlier in the department store. Is that what they call destiny?
My back landed on my soft bed and I grabbed Wooly for a tight hug. If Wooly could speak, she would be happy for me too. Finally, my perfect guy has found his way to me. But, where does he live now? I can't wait to see him again.
A knock on my room's door suddenly knocked me out of my reverie. I immediately left my bed and opened my door.
"Dinner's ready, sweetie. The food was waiting downstairs, "daddy said when I opened the door.
"Yes, dad! Wait a minute! "
Dad's nodded at me and went down first in the dining room. I got my notebook off my study table and brought it downstairs. While eating, I was looking for a perfect moment to tell them the news. Would they be happy if I told them that I had already found the perfect guy for me?
"Do you have something to tell us, honey?" Mom asked when she noticed me.
"You haven't touched your food. Is there any problem?"
They stopped eating and focused their attention on me. I suddenly felt a lump in my throat and hesitated to tell them.
"Err... I have something to tell you." I showed them the notebook where my list is written. Their eyes widened while they were staring at my notebook. "Since last year, I have been writing to those guys that have the potential to be the destined guy for me. Earlier, I had already decided my choice of who would get my first dance," I told them, and pointed the name on the first number. "It was him, Momma and Daddy. Do you remember Harris? I already told you when I was in primary school," I confessed.
I was just observing their reaction. They just looked at each other, and it looked like they were secretly talking through their eyes.
Momma brought her gaze back to me. "Honey, you're just thirteen years old," she said calmly. She seemed worried after hearing my news.
"Sometimes, we should not take prophecies seriously. "You're too young to think like that, sweetie," said Dad.
"What? It is better that I should plan my future this early. I just don't want to fall for the wrong guy and... Harris was better since he was really the guy that I admired before," I explained to them.
It was true that Harris could be a better guy for me. I started to admire him when he saved me from the bullies when they were trying to hurt me. He might have been aloof to our classmates before, but no one could do that except for him. So I started to develop a crush on him. But it saddens me when I hear that they will be flying to Florida. I thought he wouldn't come back here in Beverly Hills, but I didn't expect to see him. Maybe it was destiny who did this. I could feel my cheeks getting heated because I couldn't stop thinking that if he got my first dance, he would be the destined guy for me.
"It's not like that. We just want you to live your life as a normal teenager, honey. You can still date any guy here, so don't get stuck on the prophecy. You don't even have a friend anymore. We're worried about you," Mom sighed. "Stop thinking of that. Finish your food and then rest." Momma went back to eating and told me to touch my food.
I frowned. I think I really made it a big deal. I'm just worried about what would happen if I ended up with a guy I don't like.
After that day, I didn't listen to what Momma said. I always accompanied Liam to his practice and secretly went to the department store, hoping that I could find Harris there. I would tell Liam that I would buy him his drinks, but what I actually did was just sit on one of the store's tables and wait there. I will stare at the glass door, thinking that Harris will enter there. But I think I was just hoping. No Harris showed up there.
I know Momma will be furious if she finds out I was disobeying her here.Aren't they happy that I'm doing anything for my own good? I just don't want to be careless and let my destiny fall to the wrong guy.
"Stop sulking. It doesn't suit you."
Liam sat beside me in the bleachers. He must be resting from his practice. His shirt was soaking wet, and so was his hair. I took the towel out of his bag and handed it to him to wipe off his sweat. He grabbed it and mouthed 'thank you' at me.
"Why didn't you ask Madam Lesly for a prophecy?" I suddenly asked.
He suddenly stopped what he was doing and looked at me. "Why did you ask?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe... because I'm just curious."
"I don't want to." He ran his tongue in between his lips. "Prophecy will only dictate your life and you will lose the right to choose who you want," he added.
"I don't think you're right. We still have the right to choose―"
"That is not how it works, Cass," he says abruptly. "You're just making your destiny complicated, Cass. It makes you different from before. The reason why I don't want to know my destiny is that I don't want to be like you, who ignores others around you and just focuses your attention on the prophecy."
My mouth suddenly lost its sound. I didn't say anything after I heard his reason.
Has my faith in the prophecy changed me so drastically? Or did I just force myself to change out of fear?
I shook my head and laughed to lighten the atmosphere between us. I suddenly felt the wind change and I felt like I was suddenly out of breath because of his answer to my question.
"I'm sorry if I asked that. You can go back to your practice. Don't think too much about my question." I smiled awkwardly and motioned to him to go back to his practice.
He was still hesitant to leave my side, but after a while, he was back inside the court. I just focused on watching him so that my thoughts would disappear.
Maybe they were right. I should not make it a big deal. I should let destiny lead me to what is right for me.
Still having a hard time for the plot but I will make it look well.
