Kapitel 57: 57. The End Chapter 2

Omen's POV

Chains slithered across the floor. Following its body up to the head, we saw Countess plunging her hand into the victim's chest before pulling his heart out. The body twitched a few times before it fell heavily on the floor. The shackles around the legs and arms created a circle for the body. His eyes stared at us in hopelessness before his light slowly went out.

"Just in time, I see." Countess hummed before she licked her bloody fingers. There was a dangerous glint in her eyes as she mocked us.

I gripped my sword before lunging at her. An arrow whizzed, blocking off her escape. Just as my sword was about to reach her, I saw the slight curl of her lips before she teleported away.

We looked up the corridor as Countess was leaning languidly against the doorframe. The human heart was in her hand, beating faintly.

"Why, thank you for the assist, demon king."

The heart was passed over to Damon Windsor. The demon stared at us expressionlessly.

[Omen, when I shoot my arrow, I want you to tap on it. You have to stop them from doing whatever they are doing.]

[What about you?]

[I will catch up.]

Then, he shot his arrow without warning. There was a trace of darkness lingering on it, and I was able to get a hold of it. Immediately, I was right there before Damon. I could see from his eyes widening that he did not expect me to appear suddenly. I quickly cut down on the heart on his hand. I'm sure that it was a crucial component in wielding Imagination.

Time seemed to slow down.

As I sliced down on the heart, I felt pain. It was as if my heart was the one being pierced. Voices of my mesias screamed through my mind, and I could see Mike in the corner of my eye. He was still sprinting, but he was horrified at what he saw. I slowly looked down to see Countess's hand through me, grabbing onto my heart. With a violent rip, I fell forward to my knees.

"Well, since a human heart is gone, a Guardian's heart should suffice, right?" Countess giggled before throwing it over to Dark Shadow.

We didn't notice him standing in the middle, surrounded by numerous hearts, while in his hands was Imagination. It was strange that he was so quiet.

"Let's go."

My body was furiously trying to heal itself, but it would cease to function without my heart. I gasped as I felt the shock running through me.

Not again, I thought as I lay on the floor. I don't really want to die like this. Not now. Now when things aren't over yet.

"Omen!" Mike lunged over and attacked the two. "Omen!"

Countess was laughing darkly, while Damon was hesitant as he glanced over at me now and then. My eyes slowly closed. The tethers that bound my soul to the body were gradually loosening.

~~~
I felt someone call my name.
I groaned as I opened my eyes. The voice was really persistent. As I looked up, I saw Kagura Lee. She was Mike's previous partner. Beside her was Ravenna Cross, the Creator of the Library.
I shot up and stared blankly at them. I'm… Am I dead? Is… everything gone?
"Not yet," Ravenna interrupted my thoughts. "You're not dead. Wake up."
"What do you mean? That dead bat ripped my heart out! I'm dead as a doornail."
Kagura laughed at Countess's nickname. Ravenna smiled before tapping on my forehead.
"You're not. Nature's beloved child who is neither here nor there but everywhere. You can take one form and also another. Who are you, really?"
At Ravenna's cryptic words, I was baffled. I was confused by her words. Did I not die? If I'm not, why am I here?
"Fate has its way, but you must go back and help my successor." Ravenna continued. "Please."
"Don't mind the Creator's words," Kagura said. "She hasn't really talked to anyone for years. In Creator's terms, you are considered nature's child because of your powers. No Guardian has ever held so many elemental powers together without mishap. Your special magic wasn't just to create forms for your other selves. So…"
"… I can create another for my soul." I continued, understanding dawning on me. I was about to do so when an idea popped into my mind. "Then, how about you guys? If I can create for myself, I could for you guys, right?"
Both of them shook their heads. I realised that they were truly dead, and there was no way they could interfere with the current events. I was disappointed with how things had become.
"Aww, don't worry. We will see each other again." Kagura smiled brightly.
Ravenna nodded. "Stop Zach too."
"Why didn't you stop him back then?" It was a question that I wanted to ask her. If she had stopped him from acting out, all of this wouldn't happen. No words came out from her, except for a helpless expression. Then, she slowly answered.
"It was… meant to be. The Guardians needed a change. And I… could not bring that. For that, I… am sorry."
I sighed deeply before I began my spell to summon.
The Creator was someone we once revered, but even she had difficulties. In this story, who can be blamed? Instead of focusing on the past, the present was more important. Mike must be trying his best to stop them. I have to be there to help him. At least until the end.
