Kapitel 1: On The Run

Laura POV

My heavy legs look like they wouldn't carry me any more. I was panting like hell as I ran through trees and woods trying to get away from their grasp. I wasn't going to let them get to me. I stopped running to catch my breath which I knew I wasn't supposed to. Stopping right at the moment only means more danger for me.

My breathing was haggard as I tried to balance it but couldn't. I tried to get my shits together for a while which I did. I was able to relax but then heard heavy footsteps approaching behind me. I turned swiftly and there they were, still searching for me. I hid behind a large truck and could feel legs approaching more closer. I covered my mouth with both hands so I won't blow my cover. My rapid breathing could easily be heard if I wasn't careful.

I was hurt as I had got hit by two of them who had used their bats to hit my face while I struggled to get out of their grasp.

My face was bleeding and hurting, I knew that but dared not care about that at the moment.

I had to care about getting out of here without getting caught. I have to find a fucking way not to go back there.

"There she is, get her!!" I heard someone yell, looking at the direction. It was one of the thugs chasing me.

"Shit!" I muttered and quickly stood up storming away as fast as I could. But my legs were weak, those fucking legs that were always strong and ready to work was weak at the moment when I needed them the most.

One of them got to me by dragging my hair from the back. I groaned, he dragged me backward as his laughter echoed in my ears.

I wasn't going to give up. "Yes, Don't fucking give up Laura! You can't go back to that house!!" My subconscious yelled at me.

I closed my eyes, swallowing hard trying to suppress the pain I was having with him dragging me with my hair so tightly.

I turned swiftly like a pro who knows how to turn the tables when dealing with bad guys like this. That was the only move I ever learned in movies. How to go by the rest was what I didn't know. But I wasn't ready to give the fuck up at the moment.

I targeted his d!ck kicking him but ended up kicking his stomach instead. He groaned. "All the same" I thought, kicking him the more as I made him let go of my hair.

I was going to pour out all my frustration and anger on him or maybe end up killing him as a message to the others to stop haunting me but I looked up only to see four of them approaching the scene. There was no way I'd beat them up. I let go of the guy who was still groaning and set out again running as fast as I could, paving way for myself through thick and thin of trees.

I expected the dumbasses to stop by their fellow thug examining him but they didn't, they were coming at me like some special kid when I'm not.

My legs were failing, growing weaker as I ran, I stared back and they were still chasing after me. They didn't look exhausted but chased after me like their lives depended on it.

My legs failed me and I fell. I didn't give up but still crawled on the floor trying to get away from them.

They got to me and stopped heaving heavy sighs of relief. I failed myself! I didn't succeed in my escape, they'd take me back to the house, I was sure of that. I need no one to explain to me who had sent them or why they had been chasing after me for hours.

"You fucking made me run, bitch!" One of them yelled, slapping me hard across the face. The slap struck me so hard, I wanted to hold my cheeks at the moment but my weak hands which had gone numb didn't let me.

"Fucking bitch!" Another yelled, kicking my stomach making me turn on the floor.

"Go easy, we aren't supposed to kill her" I could hear another one mutter, I chuckled.

"Right! They shouldn't be the one to kill me, those people in the house should" I thought.

All hopes were lost, I would be going back to the house, my plan failed and I don't have a plan B, I should have known better than to run away in the first place.

Suddenly, I heard a loud sound which looked like a trumpet. I tried to process what sound that is.

"Get her out of there before it reaches here" One of them said, snapping me out of my trance. I realized what it is then. A train!

I looked around and saw that I was truly sitting at the rails of the railway. A faint smile crept up on my face.

One of the thugs approached me to get me off the railway quickly. It was the perfect timing, the train was here. I kicked him away with my legs mustering more strength for my kick to take effect and it did. The kick sent him to the others, I quickly tried crossing the railway but it was too late, the train was here. They all yelled telling me to stop as if they cared about me. I'd rather die here than go back to the house before I await death which would surely not come soon.

I knew I fell to the floor sustaining a fatal face injury but I didn't know how, all I knew was that I was slowly losing consciousness and the sound of the train could still be heard.

I wondered if that was really the horn of the train which I saw earlier or if that was the trumpet that sounds when one is dying just like I read in books.
