Kapitel 43: Chapter 43: I Play Whack-a-Mole With a Skull

Had he been holding a six-shooter, this is when he’d have cocked the gun. Instead he just snarled at me, single eye narrowing to a slit.

I didn’t want to die. True, my concept of death had matured somewhat over the last few days, but that didn’t mean I welcomed its cold embrace. A shiver passed through me, and a whimper from behind let me know that Sally was equally terrified.

I turned to study the rows of loose bricks in a new light. Obviously it was a puzzle. There were hundreds of bricks to choose from, and Gus seemed to think that if I pushed them back into the wall in the right order, I'd get the Piece. Which probably meant that if I pushed them back into the wall in the wrong order, I would die. Channelling my inner-Xander, I guessed the door would slam down, trapping me inside. Then, judging by the piles of bones and the condition of the skulls, something nasty would happen and my brain would explode.
