We have been walking for a while now passing through tunnel after tunnel. Once again, leading us is the big oaf Barak and not once has the oaf stopped or slowed down and quite frankly, my feet hurt. We've done nothing but walk since we were born? Created? Existed?
Our numbers have dwindled quite a bit after that brutal massacre. Less than 30 now. We finally come to a stop after taking a corner. There was dried blood on the floor and on the walls of the cave. The ground was littered with various items as well.
"Pick something to cover yourselves. You work for the boss now. You need to at least look not naked." Barak ordered with disdain.
Walking over we began to inspect the items but they were all either too big to be worn or too damaged to even try. We were only about 3 feet tall (about 1 meter). Finally picking up some rags we wrapped it around our waists. We picked ourselves some usable weapons we finally stood at the ready. I picked up two broken spears. One with the handle a bit closer to the blade but enough for a full grip, and the other with a much longer handle.
Hmm, I wonder how I know it's called a spear. Shrugging it off, I test out my new weapons for a bit and holster them in my rag cloth.
After everyone was equipped, he brought us to another location before he stopped. We were before a wall but the entire wall had an exaggerated swirly pattern all over it. Barak walked up to it, cut his palm and smeared the blood in the center. The moment he did that the whole wall turned a swirling black and white color.
"Come on!" Barak indicated us to follow. Although afraid and unsure, we did, which brought us to…great, more cave.
"Welcome to level one. From here on out you only have one job. Survive." Barak said as he pointed to a wandering lone wolf with his chin.
The wolf had spotted us, however from its looks it seemed to disregard us and focus more on Barak as it let out threatening growls while moving backwards.
"Well what are you stupids waiting for, attack". Barak barked at us as we got our weapons ready.
Name: Black wolf
Level: 1
Skill(s): Lunge – increased speed by 10%
Using my skill, I see what it is, a black wolf, and this time I can see its level and skill. I ready my broken spears with caution, keeping an eye out on the wolf's skill.
A little over 20 goblins charge at the wolf and it was not pretty. With one swipe and it was able to take one or two down. With a single bite and a head flies off. This was not fierce battle between rivals. This was a sloppy fight for survival. Messy cutting and stabbings. Myself included. I however was employing a more stab and run tactic, waiting for the right moment.
Considering our numbers, the wolf realized it was on the losing end and it was only a matter of time before its death. Understanding this, the wolf turned with the intention to flee. It used [LUNGE] to jump out of our encirclement.
That is exactly what I was waiting for. I timed for the moment it would land and threw my longer spear at it with all my might. Right on the mark, it entered the side of the wolf earning a yelping sound as it fell on its side.
I lunged at it before it could try to lift itself up again as I drove my shorter spear into its neck over and over until it stopped moving. I was panting hard trying to catch my breath as I looked down at my first kill.
White energies emerge from the black wolf as a portion entered into my body. I felt invigorated, I felt strength almost intoxicating. Looking back, I saw the same energies spread amongst my 'brothers' as it entered into them.
However, compared to mine theirs looked like a thin line while mine looked as large as a bundle of hair. Only a few had a bit larger than the majority.
One more thing I noticed was that a larger chunk seemed to flow upward. Looking around it seems only one or two noticed it.
I probably need to stop addressing them as such. Maybe because we all "came" from the same place or maybe because we are all grey goblins?
Here's the other chapter for the day. Enjoy
