"Aiden, I want us to perform a Blood Rite."

Aiden was sitting in the garden with a thick history book sprawled across his legs when Ryan came home and shared the news.

He put down the book and gave his lover a quizzical look.

"Blood Rite?"

Aiden blinked at his lover in disbelief. A day after his sudden proposal, the elder vampire came up with the idea to perform a Blood Rite with him. How many more surprises did he hide inside his sleeves?

"The Blood Rite is a vampiric rite that hailed from more than five hundred years ago," Ryan explained. He took a seat next to Aiden and draped his arm around his lover's slender waist. "In the past, it used to serve as a wedding ceremony between two vampires who vow eternal love and loyalty to each other."

"I know what a Blood Rite is," Aiden said.

"Oh?"

"Professor Clement talked about it last semester. I thought that it was interesting, so I looked it up."

"Ah."
