Noah Stilinski watched as all the agents were being evacuated in numerous ambulances, each one of them facing God only knows what during the operation.
The police had done their job of keeping the forest clear of civilians, but even they, who had been listening to the gunfire, had no real idea of what had happened.
When Ethan emerged, he headed straight for his vehicle. The last thing he needed was to explain anything to anyone. Liam would handle all the media issues, while the cleanup was left to the S.G.C.
"What's the report?" Ethan asked.
"Out of the 35 agents involved, six died and 15 were injured. The ones who died at the end were helped by you, so they didn't go in pain," JJ reported, giving the mission statistics.
These numbers weren't bad, not for a class-five dark entity.
Ethan seemed relieved. He had maintained a good relationship with the agents he led for a long time, and unfortunately, they had died. To him, it would be disrespectful to show grief over an agent's death, as it would diminish their sacrifice.
"Their deaths will be honored. Let's keep working," Ethan said. But at that moment, three black vehicles blocked their path.
JJ immediately alerted, "Prepare the weapons; possible enemy attack."
Ethan didn't have a large escort, so he would be in trouble if someone decided to attack him right now.
Fortunately, Ethan was a straightforward man, so he said, "I'll handle it."
When Ethan stepped out, his agents followed, and from the other side, men in suits and with assault weapons emerged. Then, an elderly man with white hair stepped out of the back of one of the vehicles.
Ethan recognized him as Sebastian ShadowBane, the "Father of Light" from the Association of Light.
"What brings such a distinguished figure to a small town like this?" Ethan asked as he approached within a few meters of Sebastian, the current leader of the ShadowBane family.
Sebastian looked at Ethan and, noticing all his wounds, said, "It seems they wiped the floor with you. I can tell that a class-five dark entity wasn't an exaggeration, but you violated the rules by delaying that information to the Association of Light."
"Father of Light, when I can't do my job, which is to eliminate evil, dark entities, then I'll call you. I have never failed a mission since I was five years old. Do you think I need your supervision?" Ethan didn't show weakness before becoming possibly the most powerful man in the world.
"You're a regent of the S.G.C.; these regulations cannot be overlooked. If you fail, thousands of people in this city would die, and the next day, we would have to explain to the world our ineptitude in facing threats," Sebastian questioned Ethan's methods for eliminating dark entities.
He had flown in as soon as he heard that a class-five entity was active in Beacon Hills. Fortunately, this dark entity wasn't a disaster class, or this town wouldn't exist anymore.
"You're lucky that dark entity only targeted minor objectives. If it hadn't, this town would now be destroyed," Sebastian said as he adjusted his glasses.
Ethan signaled with his hand, and a group of agents brought down a silver case long enough to accommodate the wooden sword.
"I'm handing over Slenderman. I couldn't kill him because he stupidly manipulated the girls he was using as bait." Ethan wasn't bothered by these reprimands because there was nothing more to say about it.
Sebastian walked over to the silver case and murmured, "You now have ten tails. You'll be a resource for humanity in the future, so I expect much more from you."
"Finish whatever you're doing in this town and take on foreign missions as soon as possible. The world isn't limited to just one country." These were Sebastian's final words before he left.
He had come to this town expecting to fight a battle, but fortunately, Ethan had been able to contain the threat.
This time he would let it slide, but such mistakes are highly punished.
It's a pity that Ethan is indispensable to humanity.
Ethan, watching the cars drive away, frowned and murmured, "I need to rest."
