10.52% Tanya the Supreme Clone Commander / Chapter 2: Battle of Geonosis (Part I)

Kapitel 2: Battle of Geonosis (Part I)

-"If something can go wrong. It will go wrong. If something can go very wrong. Don't even try."

CC 0001 (Tanya)

Hyperspace (Destination: Geonosis)

I was in the command area of the Acclamator traveling through hyperspace en route to Geonosis. I knew the mission. Apparently the confederacy of Independent systems had raised a Droid army. At least according to the intelligence extracted from the progenitor. I don't want to know what made Jango Fett of all people talk, considering the man had a will as strong as the Beskar he wore.

Looking up at the hologram of a map of Geonosis. I memorized the red dots detailing where the military and strategic targets were theoretically located.

Running a planetary campaign with only two hundred thousand troops was madness but I didn't think there was much hope of getting more manpower anytime soon. Cloning was slow . And that was going to be a problem. We would have to reach at least 20 million soldiers to have close to a considerable force. That's only if each planet could provide its own defensive garrison. There simply wouldn't be enough clones to defend every planet against an army of droids in an all out war. This rebellion had to be strangled in its infancy.

The doors to the command area opened. I wasn't distracted from the hologram but I heard a cane clacking against the floor at the same time as light footsteps.

"Greetings, Young one"

I turned around and performed a military salute. However I saw no one, instinctively I looked down to see a tiny figure walking with a gnarled stick. According to what I had studied in the special diplomacy program this was Jedi Master Yoda.

"A pleasure to have you aboard Master Jedi."

"My pleasure. it, is," said the little man as he approached the hologram, looking up to see it.

"Land at the Arena point, we will. Your armies, there meet the enemy, they, will."

I looked down at the arena, reaching out with my hands and studying the terrain. It would be stupid to have the whole army in one spot when you have a whole planet. But not to argue with the enemy.

"Understood, we will establish a complete naval and air blockade, before putting the arena and its droid foundry to siege with defensive artillery and trench lines. I estimate the foundry exhausts its materials in six rotations, food for sentients in four ' I replied promptly as I looked at the terrain. In all likelihood the Geonosians would resort to cannibalism by the second rotation. Provided they didn't surrender as soon as the arena was fully cut off.

Numerically we have a small army, but the lack of manpower would be compensated with an abundance of air and heavy equipment. Assuming the enemy outnumbers this would be the best decision to make.

I looked again at the terrain surrounding the arena, flat and without cover, so flat that it seemed unreal, as if a movie director didn't want to spend much to develop a transient scene. A perfect killing zone for fixed fortifications.

I smiled to myself. It looked like an easy first battle. It was impossible for anything to go wrong.

"I will brief the commandos to prepare to infiltrate the field. I will use them to scout strategic targets to take out."

The green thing seemed to narrow its eyes.

"No, charge forward we will. Struck, a decisive blow, must, be. Wait for a bombing campaign, we, cannot"

Is this green Dwarf insane? I was filled with rage. How could he propose such a stupid, stupid strategy. To charge head-on across open terrain? What does he think? That we fight with swords?

"Master Jedi, I must ask you to reconsider. Charging the men across such terrain without cover will only get them killed. If you're unfamiliar with modern tactics, I must please ask that you remain an observer," A bit blunt, but I wasn't going to let a religious fanatic get my men killed in a Banzai charge like some dishonored Space-samurai.

Master Yoda did not seem to flinch at my comment. "Your concern, Understand, I do. Ask to trust the Jedi I do. Attack the enemy, we will."

I shook my head while raising a simulated combat program on the holodesk. Making an army of a hundred thousand clones fight against another hundred thousand clones in a terrain similar to Geonosis.

"Master Yoda. Please look at this simulation."

A rough simulation of combat between two armies took place in front of Master Yoda. Quickly the casualties began to accumulate with no strategic advantage for either side, it was little more than industrial slaughter. At the end of the simulation the deaths from both sides totaled 150,000 soldiers KIA and 30,000 soldiers Wounded with 28,000 of the wounded estimated to be permanently crippled.

"Attacking directly will mean the death of our entire army. So if you want to establish strategic objectives, I will accept it. However the tactical situation will remain under my control for the sake of preserving as many of our resources as possible."

Master Yoda seemed to understand the situation described without protest. Which pleased me. The best thing for a militarily incompetent to do is to stand by and watch, not command. There is nothing more dangerous than an incompetent with initiative.

An announcement rang out over the intercom "Hyperspace drop in T-minus 20 minutes."

I nodded and looked at Yoda. Who stood silently watching the hologram. If he wasn't going to interfere any more all the better.

I went back to planning the offensive.

An insectoid race and probably hive minded. They live in tunnels underground which will certainly require either chemical weapons or a lengthy clearing. I bit my lip under my helmet. I didn't like the sound of it. I would prioritize winning the battle on the surface first, then figure out how to clear the tunnels later.

"We are facing a droid army. Army composition primarily consists of B1 Units with minor supporting elements. Their tactics will primarily consist of massive formations marching parade style firing on mass. Heavy artillery will slaughter them, " I said smiling. The droids according to the information I had collected tended to attack without fear, and importantly without looking for cover. There is nothing easier to take down than an army of idiots who don't take cover. It reminded me, in part, of the battle with Dacia. Where idiots marched to the front receiving the relentless assault of the hammer of civilization.

Artillery.

If everything went as I thought it was going to go the battle would be won with a low cost of sentient resources, with a massive cost of heavy munitions. Still better munitions replaced in weeks than clones replaced in decades.

I turned on the communicator to all the clone commanders of the Grand Army of the Republic.

"Mission briefing session. Now, go to the holographic call".

In front of me appeared 19 clone commanders. All dressed in the same costume and paint. I pulled the Geonosis map up in front of everyone.

"The mission will be as follows. The Arena is our strategic target. It theoretically contains the Primary Droid foundry, as well as the rebellion leadership. Our objective. Prevent the escape of enemy leadership and destroy the droid army."

I passed the map to set up a situation on the ground. Where a large battle map appeared around the arena.

"We will create a security zone around the arena containing trench systems and artillery. Most of the army will take up defensive positions and fire on advancing enemy forces. In my estimation the artillery will be tasked with reducing the enemy droid forces by an estimated 60% before they come within range of the infantry who will hold the line against the remaining 40%. The 203rd legion under my command will remain in reserve to support any breakout point. Naval supremacy will be established within the first hour. We do not know the situation in atmosphere but it is believed that we will have immediate air superiority, 90% aerial supremacy is estimated to be established within the first twenty four hours. The LAAT gunships will provide close air support to the ground forces. I am passing on to your ships your landing points, as well as the particular missions for the Clone Commandos. Any questions?"

"No Senior Commander!" They all said at the same time, with the same voice, gesture and suit. Making it almost impossible to tell who was who.

"Good. That's the end of the briefing. Prepare for immediate combat."

Turning off the transmitter I went forward to look through the windows into hyperspace. We would be leaving shortly and I wanted to see the situation.

The exit from hyperspace was less abrupt than I expected. However, it did not improve the situation. A small enemy fleet was in front of us. There were only a few of them and we could destroy them easily. I smiled.

"Full speed ahead. Prepare weapons for immediate combat."

Numerical superiority. That's how I liked battles. Easy and smooth.

"Don't worry master jedi. I have a plan. We'll be on the ground shortly."

No one answered me and I got worried. I turned around and did not see the jedi master.

"Where is the jedi master?"

One of the clones with me looked at me and then towards the door.

"He left the moment we came out of hyperspace."

I turned quickly to look into space. More than a hundred fighters that did not belong to the clone army were taking flight from our ships.

"Well, I had a plan."
