Kapitel 96: Chapter 96: The Assassination Attempt

After Feng Mo's words, he led the three women out of the reception hall. As they walked down the corridor toward the exit, Ai Er subtly shifted to stand slightly behind and to the left of Feng Mo. Receiving the signal, Kailan quietly positioned herself to his right. Feng Mo exchanged a quick glance with Ai Er before continuing to guide Chu Yunjian, tracing gentle circles on her back with his finger.

Under the guidance of an android, the four of them made their way through the corridor. Just as they were about to exit the estate's gates, a laser beam shot toward Feng Mo from over a thousand meters away, reaching him in a flash.

Feng Mo remained calm, gently pushing Chu Yunjian over to Kailan's side. He then tapped his chest, and instantly, a dark liquid metal spread across his body, forming a sleek black suit of combat armor.

With a loud bang, the laser hit Feng Mo squarely in the chest, producing a massive explosion that pushed him back a step.

"Ai Er, Kailan, take Yunjian back inside the estate. I'll check on the situation," Feng Mo instructed.

With the women unarmored, it was safest for them to stay inside the estate. Alarms blared throughout the estate grounds, and soldiers in combat gear, armed with laser rifles, quickly surrounded the premises.

With Ai Er and Kailan escorting Chu Yunjian back to the estate, Feng Mo felt at ease. Black Shard, his combat armor, began scanning the direction from which the laser had been fired. Activating his boosters, he shot off like a streak of light, heading directly for the source.

The T3-grade combat armor provided limited flight capabilities and contained enough oxygen for humans to survive in space for at least seven days.

Upon reaching the rooftop of the building where the shot originated, Feng Mo saw no sign of the shooter. The building was pitch dark, suggesting all employees had left for the day.

"Xiao Y, notify Yunjian and request her authorization to use the planetary screen system. Lock onto the assassin's position."

The AI assistant, Xiao Y, was a sub-system of the main AI. Being a true intelligent lifeform, Xiao Y had the capability to learn, evolve, and self-upgrade.

The planetary screen was an artificial atmospheric surveillance system, providing full planetary monitoring. Access to this system was restricted to military leaders, council members, and top-tier nobility.

"Xiao Y here. I have Miss Yunjian's authorization and have successfully marked the assassin's location!"

Feng Mo's vision showed a pale blue display, revealing the building's structure. The assassin was hiding on the 18th floor, marked by four red dots, indicating four individuals in total.

"Three level-three gene warriors, one level-four gene warrior. Please be cautious, Master. The building is rigged with timed explosives. Shall I inform Miss Chu to dispatch support?"

"Xiao Y, tell Yunjian to seal off the entire street—no one goes in or out. No need to send anyone; I'll handle this alone. Let her stay safely in the estate."

With that, Feng Mo jumped from the rooftop, descending to the 18th floor. His foot thrusters activated, keeping him hovering just outside the window, where he confirmed the positions of the four assassins.

Inside the building, the four men in black combat suits leaned against the walls, waiting in silence. They weren't professional killers but rather part-time mercenaries who had accepted a contract worth seven hundred thousand credits.

The plan was simple: assassinate a noble. The four of them had divided roles—one stood watch, another aimed the weapon, while two others set up bombs on the 18th floor.

However, after the first shot was fired, they realized they'd made a grave mistake. The "noble" they targeted was equipped with combat armor. Realizing they'd bitten off more than they could chew, they regrouped on the 18th floor to discuss their options, hoping to escape in the ensuing chaos.

Unfortunately for them, Feng Mo had already found them. His eyes glinted behind his mask as he grinned, raising his armored shoulders to reveal an array of miniature missiles. His radar locked onto their positions automatically.

He launched fifty micro-missiles from his left shoulder, firing through the building's windows toward the assassins. Feng Mo deliberately held back, only deploying half his payload to ensure he could capture at least one of them alive.

If the level-four gene warrior couldn't survive this wave, then his fate was sealed.

As the missiles appeared, three of the men froze in terror and attempted to flee. Only the level-four gene warrior met Feng Mo's gaze defiantly, pulling out a detonator and pressing it without hesitation.

Boom!

The entire building shook violently, and the 18th floor collapsed. The explosion's force sent Feng Mo flying, debris scattering everywhere, smashing hover cars parked below.

Thankfully, the street had been evacuated in advance, preventing any civilian casualties. Feng Mo couldn't fathom the assassins' ruthlessness—they'd rigged the building with explosives, willing to blow themselves up.

Perhaps their goal was to take any pursuing soldiers with them. Feng Mo sighed, noting with some satisfaction that at least one assassin had survived.

His radar continued to scan, revealing a single red dot among the rubble, which had fallen to the first floor. This dot was unusually bright, almost blinding.

"Warning: quasi-T5 energy signature detected. Scanning… no matching records in the database. Please proceed with caution, Master."

"Hmm? Not in the database? So, it's not human?" Feng Mo mused.

He descended to the building's entrance. To him, the dark interior looked as clear as daylight, thanks to his armor's sensors. When he finally saw the red dot in person, Feng Mo froze momentarily.

Of the original four assassins, only one remained, and he was anything but human. The figure before him stood over three meters tall, with the head of a wolf, the body of a turtle, and limbs covered in tiger-like stripes, ending in claws nearly ten centimeters long.

No wonder Xiao Y couldn't find any record of this creature in the database. It wasn't an alien but likely a mutated human—a "stitched creature" created by fusing different genes.

Feng Mo's interest piqued. This monster was probably the product of some mad scientist's genetic experiments, a common occurrence in the interstellar age. Gene-obsessed researchers often blended animal, alien, and human genes to create hybrid creatures. These practices had once proliferated throughout the Federation, giving rise to various cults.

Eventually, the Federation crushed these cults with an iron fist, eradicating their followers, bases, and planets with T5 starships, reducing them to dust.

"Interesting. Hey, wolf-head, can you speak? If so, say something—I'm curious to hear what you sound like."

Feng Mo's taunt seemed to enrage the creature. It crouched, then lunged at him with terrifying speed, creating a gust of wind. But Feng Mo, safely encased in his armor, barely felt the impact.

Seeing the beast charge at him, Feng Mo spread his arms as a flow of black metal formed into two dark swords.

"If you can't understand human speech, I'll just have to beat you into submission!"
