Laney was stunned, but he quickly regained his senses. He responded, "Note, sir."
Actually, Laney had already guessed that his boss meant his house near the facility. But to make sure that his assumption was correct, he would like to hear it from his boss' mouth because it was the first time he wanted to meet a client in his private laboratory that also stands as his house.
So it only means one thing. Miss Violet Shang was not a client, but she was actually his boss' girlfriend. So then, he must treat her well to earn good points from his boss.
Of course, Laney knew who Violet Shang was. She is the darling princess of the Shang family. It is not a secret in the upper class that prominent families were after her hand in marriage.
It was the reality. Even though they live in a new era where technology is highly advanced; however, the upper-class mindset is still the same. Speaking of power, marrying a family member into a business partner or a potential one that would benefit both sides, arranged marriage is still a trend.
Laney shook his head and wondered why his boss hid Miss Shang as his girlfriend.
It was actually fantastic news. The Shang family is one of the wealthiest families in the world. It was like hitting the jackpot to marry this princess. He already showed her off to the world that he had won this princess's heart if it were him.
Definitely, something is wrong with his boss. As a personal secretary, he pitied Violet that she needed to make an appointment just to meet her boyfriend. His boss was swamped with his daily schedules, even on weekends. If his boss was not in the office, it only meant that he was in his laboratory.
Laney carried on pondering. Later on, an idea pops out of his head.
Two weeks ago, his boss suddenly announced to visit Remy Town for an official business appointment. At first, Laney was perplexed why his boss had bought HL Real Estate. But after his boss went to the White House Garden, he realized the boss had just made time to visit his girlfriend with the excuse of an official business appointment.
According to Anthony, the boss even made lunch for Miss Violet, but there was an emergency, and he needed to leave in a hurry.
"Poor boss," Laney muttered to himself. Suddenly, he felt sad for his boss. "Could it be why the president suddenly had his eyes on merging into a small company so that he had an excuse to visit the countryside once in a while?"
Laney then wholly understood. Since there are only minor issues in the company, his boss can take a break to make time for his girlfriend.
He sorted out his boss' schedules and pushed all of his appointments later in the week so that he could have quality time with his girlfriend as much as he wanted. Laney was incredibly proud of himself for coming up with these thoughts.
"I will make sure no one will disturb you, boss!"
Somewhere outside of the central city, Laney was occupied with so many speculations regarding his boss's love life, which his guess was correct. His boss was also ecstatic about decorating his house at that exact moment.
Allen had forgotten entirely that he promised to join the men on the rooftop to have some booze and barbecue. Instead, he spent his night ordering a few brand new pieces of furniture to deliver first thing tomorrow morning.
Since the house that also stands as his laboratory only had a simple design, the place only comprises four walls. The furniture in the living room is just a long crescent white sofa and a black marble center table. Then, across the room to the left is his office space, where he only had a long white table and a swivel chair.
He had no dining area, and his kitchen was hidden behind those walls, as for his bed; it was in the attic, just above his open space office, which the stairs could not be seen and would only appear if he summoned them. There are no paintings or any display as he could turn his entire house into an immersive room, which most of the time, he chooses an underwater setting.
While Allen was immersed in online shopping, he didn't notice Duncan exited on one of those walls.
"Hey, are you not done yet? What are you doing?" Duncan questioned him after he noticed that there were changes in the interior of his laboratory.
Allen turned around and glanced at Duncan. He smiled faintly and replied, "I just want to try a new scenery in my laboratory."
While he was saying this, Allen pressed some buttons on the screen. The sink and island counter appeared. Duncan witnessed when the living room and kitchen wall were pressed down to the floor and replaced with a glass partition.
"Whoa! Who designed it?" Astonished, there are no other words Duncan could describe. He is a famous modern architect in Russia and owns an interior designing firm. Seeing Allen's new interior design of his laboratory, he could not help not compliment it.
"I am tired of staring at those fake scenery, so I asked Devion to help me do a little renovation."
"Splendid!" Duncan praised Allen's new set-up while he ascended three platform steps toward the office table. He originally designed this laboratory, so he was familiar with which button to press, so then a guest chair appeared in front of Allen's office table.
"How are you feeling?" Duncan, who originally came down to fetch Allen and bring him to the rooftop, forgot his mission and began querying his cousin instead.
"I'm doing well," Allen replied, pursed his lips with a small smile.
"Are you still taking those pills?"
Allen nodded. He pressed a button, then a drawer on his right opened. He took out some pills and placed them on the table for Duncan to see.
"Since it was effective, I continued taking them. Uncle Derek successfully developed its injectable variety, which was more effective; however, I could not recover the rest of the data. Kenny and Sarah are helping me complete the formula, but the test results are always unsuccessful." Allen sighed gloomily.
"I'm sorry to hear that, Allen." Duncan is always irate whenever he thinks of his uncle. Derek knows Allen is suffering from a rare illness, but he is selfish for not helping Allen. "Uncle Derek could actually give you all his data, but he completely became heartless."
"I could not force him to help me when even his daughter suffered in his hands." Allen forced a smile.
"I'm still in disbelief!" Duncan sneered in his heart.
"Well, unfortunately, for many things that I can inherit from our family, it was this genetic illness I got instead. How ironic isn't it?" Allen tried it to sound like a joke that made Duncan frown.
"Don't say that, and stop blaming yourself that you are the reason Aunt Cassandra was trapped in another dimension." Duncan did his best to console his cousin.
Allen smiled bitterly and said, "If I were not diagnosed with this illness, Mama would not leave and visit the life that did not exist anymore just to get the data on how to treat me. That man learned about it and sealed the portal for Mama to be trapped in there."
"I understand why you are working hard to locate the shaman and even beg Uncle Derek to give you the time machine data. Don't worry. When I go back home to Russia, I will investigate right away if anyone knows about the shamans hiding in the country."
"Please be careful. The Romanoff family is loyal to Howard." Allen reminded his cousin.
Upon hearing Howard's name, Duncan darkened his face. He uttered, "Uncle Mitchelle and dad are wonderful friends. Now they have to sever ties all because of the war in the Alliance."
Allen was also pessimistic about what happened to every great friendship because of Howard. Families are even estranged from each other because of conflicting opinions of whom they must follow. Howard, who caused this conflict the reason Allen swears to search every corner of the world to find a way to end his life.
"Alright! I don't want to talk about this anymore. We better head to the rooftop and forget our worries! Everyone is waiting already." Duncan cuts Allen's train of thoughts and urges him to end this depressing conversation. He knew how painful it was for Allen every time it brought this subject up.
"Alright, let's go."

The following day, Allen was occupied with decorating his laboratory. When he was done, he sat down on his new loveseat sofa with a broad smile on his face. Keisha lazily lying on top of the center table; Allen scooped the kitten and lifted her while uttering excitedly,
"Your mom is coming for a visit!"
Obviously, it was an official business appointment. lol
How sensible the secretary is!
