Kapitel 3: BLACK OUT/ WHITE IN.

Tyze's eyes slowly opened, meeting his mother's pale face and red eyes, the result of her sleepless night.

He felt weak all over, but also uncomfortable lying down, so he decided to get up. As he did, he felt a strange lightness below, and when he looked down, he was shocked to find that his left leg was gone below the knee.

Tyze's gaze remained fixed on the empty space where his left leg used to be. He felt a sense of numbness, as if he was living in a nightmare. He couldn't accept the reality of his situation.

Franca took his hand, her eyes filled with tears. "Tyze, we're here for you. We'll get through this together."

Tyze's eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, they just stared at each other then, Tyze looked away, his gaze drifting to his right leg, still intact but feeling useless without its partner.

Maya's sobs grew softer, and the room fell silent. Tyze's mom held his hand, her grip tight.

After a while, Tyze spoke up, his voice barely above a whisper. "What's next? Can we go home now?" He said, his face expressionless.

Franca hesitated before answering. "My love the doctor will come in soon to discuss your rehabilitation. You'll need to learn how to adapt to your prosthetic leg."

Letting out a weak chuckle, Tyze fell back onto the stretcher.

Just then, the doctor stepped in with a couple of nurses. "Okay, it's time now. He can be discharged," the doctor said.

The nurses immediately came to Tyze's aid, helping him off the bed and into a wheelchair. Tyze remained silent, not uttering a word, as they prepared him to leave.

As they pushed him outside the hospital towards the handicap ramp, a nurse called out to his mom, "Ma'am, we'll need you to sign some papers before you can take him home." A nurse said going after his mom and it's a pen and paper in her grasp.

Tyze's gaze remained fixed on the road ahead, his eyes squinting slightly in the bright sunlight. His wheelchair sat motionless at the top of the handicap ramp, poised like a vehicle ready to launch.

Franca, still signing papers, had unconsciously left the wheelchair's brakes off, and Maya, distracted by the commotion of arriving ambulances, didn't notice either.

As the ramp's gentle slope beckoned, Tyze's chair began to roll, ever so slowly, towards the pavement. Tyze's eyes never wavered from the road, his mind a thousand miles away.

Franca, still engrossed in paperwork, and Maya, mesmerized by the flashing lights, remained oblivious to the danger unfolding before them as the wheelchair picked up speed, its wheels humming softly on the ramp's surface. Tyze's silence was unsettling, his stillness a stark contrast to the chaos brewing around him.

The road loomed closer, a vast expanse of unknowns waiting to be conquered. Or feared.

As the wheelchair rolled away, Tyze noticed but didn't react. He thought to himself,

"I guess this would be more satisfying... I'm sorry, Dad. I'm sorry I couldn't take care of Mum and Maya... Forgive me... I feel so useless now, a burden to everyone... I should have been stronger, protected them better... What's the point of living like this?"

His mind raced with regret and self-doubt, but his body remained still, surrendering to the momentum. The wheelchair rolled closer to the curb, the drop-off looming larger.

"I'm sorry, Mum... Maya... I love you both... I don't want to be a burden... Maybe this is for the best..."

Just as Tyze's thoughts spiralled into darkness, his mum's scream pierced the air. "Tyze! Oh, Tyze!"

Franca's voice shattered the spell, and Tyze's eyes snapped back to reality. He saw the curb rushing towards him, the pavement below a hard, unforgiving surface. His heart skipped a beat as he realized the danger, but his body still felt heavy, unresponsive.

"Fuck, what was I thinking?" Tyze whispered, his eyes wide with fear, as a woman by the gate quickly gripped his chair her nails digging into the metal frame.

But it was too late. The chair's momentum was unstoppable, and Tyze felt himself lifted out of the seat, his body arcing through the air. He landed with a thud on the scorching hot asphalt, the impact jolting through his body, while the lady lost balance almost falling to the ground.

Tyze's palms scraped against the rough road surface, his skin burning from the friction as he tried to get up stretching his hands towards his mum tears of pain gathered in his eyes.

It would have been different if he could get up and run from where he was at the moment.

But that opportunity was far gone from him now.

Tyze lay there, his body sprawled on the scorching hot asphalt, as his mum, Maya, and the lady who had tried to catch his chair rushed towards him. They were almost at the curb, their faces etched with worry and fear, when suddenly a massive truck came barreling around the corner.

The truck's tires screeched as it hurtled towards Tyze, its horn blaring in a deafening roar…..Time seemed to slow down as the truck bore down on him, its massive wheels mere inches from his helpless body.

Then, in a gruesome flash of violence, tyze hands still in the air towards his mother, the truck's wheels crushed Tyze's head and abdomen, splattering his inner organs all over the road.

The sound of crunching bone and tearing flesh filled the air, followed by an eerie silence as every soul within the hospital premises who saw and experienced this, went silent.

His mum shaky for some seconds before passing out hitting against the ground, maya in shock, her gaze fixed on the horrible scene as she called out to her brother her voice above a whisper.

"Un.. u.. uncle tyze?"

The nurses Maya, and the lady who tried to save Tyze froze in horror, their screams stuck in their throats as they stumbled backward, their eyes fixed on the gruesome scene before them.

The truck on the other hand skidded to a stop, its driver leaping out, his face ashen with shock.

The road was now a scene of utter carnage, Tyze's lifeless body mangled beyond recognition, his inner organs spilled out like gruesome confetti.

The world around them seemed to have come to an end, replaced by an unending nightmare of blood, pain, and death…
