In a green, lit forest, two children can be seen walking hand in hand, a girl and a boy. Specifically, the girl is pulling the boy by hand with hurried steps.
''Come on! Let's go!''
''Girl could you stop pulling me? I can walk normally, you know...'' Shanks complained, still being pulled by the energetic girl.
''Don't call me 'girl', I already gave you my name, it's Emily. You keep calling me missy, girl and lass, you talk like an old man, Shanks!'' Emily says with a giggle.
''Urgh!'' An invisible arrow hit Shanks in the chest, causing him to bleed internally.
'An old man? I was still in my thirties before showing up here...' Shanks thought, a little depressed.
''Oh, I can see the village now! Let's go!'' Emily let go of Shanks's hand and rushes forward, leaving the red-haired boy behind.
''Oi! Wait for me!''
Reaching Emily, a strong light hits his face and he closes his eyes, momentarily blinding him. A moment later he opens his eyes again and then he sees what was in front of him.
He was on a small hill near the village so he could more or less see the entire village. It's a village with very ordinary houses, made of mud and hay, it's surrounded by some crops, hay and pastures, he saw a big mill on the other side of the village, next to a stream, probably being the extension of the stream they were on. He saw a brick house with a big chimney, with a lot of smoke coming out of it, probably a craft place. He also saw several people strolling along the roads made of earth and stone, talking to each other and laughing. Right in the middle of the village, there is a big house made of wood, and from the size, he deduced that it was the house of the village chief.
As he watched and surveyed the village, Emily was beside him, assessing his expressions. '' It's a very cozy village, right?''
The village is very simple, but it is very colorful, full of pastures and plants, people smile and laugh with pleasure, bringing a happy and fun atmosphere, he could feel that even if he was a little far away.
''Yes, it's a good village!'' He smiled. ''What is the name of this village?''
Emily lifted her arms up and stretched, ''Well, It doesn't really have an official name, because it's just an average village, but everyone calls it the GreenStep village, many who were born here became adventurers and famous people, that's why they named it GreenStep, as if the village were the place where heroes and great adventurers would take their first steps, really cool, right?''
Shanks wasn't confused by the word 'Adventurers' or 'Heroes', even before appearing here, he met many who claimed to be adventurers, and of course, he's also run into Garp the 'Hero' of the navy.
''I see, it's a good name.''
As he looked at the village from afar, he felt that something was missing from the village, and then he remembered. He turned to Emily and asked: ''But isn't there a navy base near here? I mean, this island looks big, and pirates can still show up at any time.''
''Eh?'' Emily looked at Shanks and tilted her head to the side in confusion, ''Navy? Island? What are you talking about?''
''Well...you know, the marines, the defencers of justice and everything else, and...we're on an island, right?'' Shanks asked, being sarcastic in the first part.
Emily looked even more confused at Shanks, ''I really don't understand what you're talking about...''
Before Shanks could respond, he felt his stomach churn, and realized he hadn't eaten anything so far.
*GROWL*
''Hmm, I see, so these nonsense words you were talking about is because of hunger. Children must stay healthy so they don't have head and body problems.'' She deduced that Shanks was starting to hallucinate from hunger, of course, is an exaggeration. ''Come on, as your friend, I will invite you to a meal at my house!''
Shanks really wanted to ask the girl more questions, but filling his belly comes first, so he just followed Emily to the village entrance in silence.
-----[]-----
Entering the village, Emily walked casually while singing a song, waving now and then to villagers passing her, and Shanks followed behind, with a few people giving him some strange looks. He didn't mind, after all he's not from around here.
After walking a little further, Emily stops in front of a simple house, but bigger than most in the village, and opens the wooden door with a bang.
''Papa! I am back! And I brought a friend!''
''Oh? it's you Emily. And with a friend? Now this is new!''
''Hey, what do you mean by that?!''
Shanks entered the house with Emily and looked inside. It seems to have four rooms, the living room is quite spacious and furnished with a medium table, chairs, lamps, a small fireplace, a rug and a small workshop that was further away from the rest of the furniture, which is where Emily's father was. The house is simple but cozy.
Shanks looked at Emily's father who was sitting in a chair in front of a strange machine, working on something he couldn't see well. He is a man who looks to be in his late forties, has short black hair and green eyes. He is wearing a plain cotton shirt, cloth pants, and a dirty apron over his shirt.
Hearing Emily, he gets up from his chair and walks over to them.
''To think that my little girl finally made a friend! I'm proud!''He says while stroking his daughter's head.
''Hey! Stop it, old man!'' Emily says embarrassed.
Emily's father then turns to Shanks, who was standing next to Emily, a little further back.
''And you are...?''
''Shanks.''He takes off his straw hat, puts it on his chest and smiled, '' My name is Shanks, sir.''
''I see. Well Shanks, my name is Rolland, you're welcome in my home. Emily, could you get our guest a cup of water please?''
Emily nods her head, ''Okay. I'll be right back.''
The moment Emily left, Shanks felt the atmosphere grow cold and heavy, and that cold, heavy feeling….was coming from Emily's father.
''Hm?....Mr Rollan-!?''
Rolland abruptly grabs Shanks by the shoulders and crouches down, the smile on his face disappeared and he looked Shanks in the eye.
''Listen boy, it doesn't matter who you are, and I'll just say it once. Do you want to find out what exists in the afterlife?''
''No....?''
''Then don't touch my daughter, are we clear?''
''Okay....?''
Rolland rubs Shanks's head a little hard and says without smiling: ''Hm, good boy.''
'Now I understand why she probably doesn't have any friends...' Shanks thought with a stiff smile on his face.
He had his share of overprotective parents, Whitebeard being one of them, or rather the worst of its kind. If Whitebeard had a daughter, Shanks couldn't imagine Whitebeard talking amiably with his son-in-law, no, he'd probably make the boy disappear without a trace.
Rolland saw his daughter returning with the water and the smile returned to his face.
''So Emily, how was your training today dear?''
''Here you go, a cup of water for you, Shanks!''
''O-Oh.... thank you.''
Rolland's smile almost broke as he saw that his daughter completely ignored him as she gave Shanks her full attention.
Shanks could sense the killing intent that Emily's father was beaming toward him even if he didn't have any battle experience.
'This is going to be a long day....' He thought as he took a sip of water from his cup.
''Oh right, Dad, Shanks is having lunch here.''
''E-Eh? Why, dear? I don't think we have space-''
''Dad.''
''W-What?''
Emily puffed out her chest, crossed her arms and looked with conviction at Rolland, ''A knight never goes back on his promises, and I promised I would let him eat at my house! If I break my promise, my name will be seen as a disgrace!''
Shanks smiled at Emily's performance as a mini knight. Rolland, on the other hand, couldn't be more emotional.
Rolland knelt in front of Emily and looked at her with teary eyes, ''To think that my little girl already has the heart of a knight! The gods really blessed us! I'm so proud! Don't worry dear, your friend can eat here!''
'''Ehehehe....'' Emily smiles, scratching her head in embarrassment.
''Sorry for interrupting, but...''
Hearing Shanks speak, Emily and Rolland turn to him, both with completely opposite expressions. Emily had a smug look on her face, almost saying 'Look, I said you could eat here!', and Rolland looked angry at him as if to say 'How dare you interrupt our father-daughter moment! I'll have red-haired boy soup for dinner!'
''Emily, I would like to talk to your father, I have some questions about...you know.''
''Oh....'' Emily understood what Shanks meant. He wants information so he can get home, so she just nodded. ''Okay, just don't take too long, mama will be here soon.''
With that, Emily takes a wooden sword that was by the door and leaves the house towards the backyard, probably to practice with the wooden sword.
Rolland waited for Emily to leave and looked at Shanks, he looked the boy up and down, he analyzed the sandals on his foot, the red shorts, the white blouse with an open collar, his red hair, and the straw hat that was on his head.
''I won't lie, boy. You have courage, but don't think I'm giving you my daughter just because you've got some balls!''
'Does he think I'm here to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage or what?' Shanks thought with a tired smile on his face.
'Yes, this is going to be a long day...'
