Kapitel 35: THE GOODBYE DAWN

The sky was still a deep indigo when Princess Elara made her way to the training grounds. The familiar path was illuminated by the soft glow of the moon and stars, and the cool morning air carried the promise of dawn. She felt a mixture of anticipation and melancholy, knowing that today's practice might be different.

When she arrived, Prince Theron was already there, his silhouette sharp against the dim light. He greeted her with a smile, but there was a hint of sadness in his eyes. They both knew what was coming.

"Good morning, Elara," Theron said, his voice gentle.

"Good morning, Theron," she replied, trying to keep her tone steady.

They began their practice as usual, their swords clashing rhythmically in the quiet morning air. Elara focused on each movement, each parry and strike, trying to savor every moment. She felt her skills had improved remarkably under Theron's guidance, but more than that, she cherished the bond they had formed.

As the first light of dawn began to paint the sky with hues of pink and orange, they paused to catch their breath. Elara looked at Theron, her heart heavy with the knowledge of what was to come.

Theron sheathed his sword and turned to face her fully. "Elara, there's something I need to tell you," he began, his expression serious.

Elara nodded, already knowing what he was about to say.

"I have to leave today," Theron continued. "I need to go to the border to assist our alliance with the warriors. The situation between Astoria and Valoria is deteriorating, and they need me there."

Elara swallowed hard, her chest tightening. She had known this moment would come, but it didn't make it any easier. "I understand, Theron. Your duty to the kingdom comes first."

"Elara," Theron said softly, "we will see each other again. Until then, stay strong and continue your training. I believe in you."

She nodded, finding strength in his words. "I will."

She managed a small smile, but inside, her insecurities were bubbling to the surface. She remembered Queen Isolde's cruel words from the previous day, and they echoed in her mind, fueling her doubts.

"Theron," she began hesitantly, "are you doing this just because you pity me? Because of my situation?"

Hearing her words, Theron already felt that he was going to miss her. He knew that his heart would not lie if he was near Elara, and he would not leave peacefully when he knows that Elara was in a situation where everyone was against her and he knew her mind is full of insecurities.

Theron's eyes widened in surprise, and he immediately shook his head. "Elara, no. I train with you because I respect your dedication and your spirit. You are a skilled warrior, and I have enjoyed every moment of our time together."

Theron sighed, glancing towards the castle. "I must go in now. I have preparations to make before I leave."

Elara's heart sank at the thought of their imminent separation. "I understand," she whispered.

With a final, lingering look, Theron turned and walked away, his figure gradually disappearing into the distance. Elara watched him go, her heart aching with the loss but also filled with determination. She would continue her training, not just for herself, but for Theron and the bond they had built.

In the daylight, Elara's heart raced as she hurried through the castle corridors, her mind torn between uncertainty and determination. Should she watch Theron leave? The conflict within her intensified with each step, the weight of her decision heavy on her shoulders.

Just as she rounded a corner, she almost collided with Theron, who seemed equally rushed. His eyes widened in surprise before a warm smile spread across his face.

"Elara," Theron said, his voice slightly breathless. "I've been looking for you. I wanted to speak with you before I depart."

Elara swallowed, trying to steady her nerves. "I... I was coming to find you too."

They stood facing each other in the quiet hallway, the castle walls seeming to enclose around them in their shared moment of hesitation. Elara glanced down the corridor, momentarily unable to meet Theron's gaze.

"I... I wanted to say..." Theron began, his words faltering briefly before he continued with conviction. "I wanted to thank you for these past weeks. You've been a bright light in these uncertain times."

Elara's heart fluttered at his words, a mixture of relief and longing washing over her. "Theron, I..."

He reached out, gently touching her arm as if to reassure her. "Elara, I know with this all circumyances , it's not easy for you. But I want you to know that I believe in you. Please take care yourself while I am go."

"Thank you, Theron." Tears welled up in Elara's eyes, overwhelmed by the depth of Theron's understanding and support. "Will you... be safe?"

Theron smiled warmly, his hand lingering on her arm for a moment longer before he withdrew it. "I'll do my best. And I promise to return as soon as I can."

They stood in silence for a moment, the weight of impending farewell hanging between them. Elara glanced down the hallway once more, steeling herself to watch Theron leave, when suddenly, she felt his hand gently tilting her chin upward.

"Before I go..." Theron murmured softly, his eyes searching hers with a tenderness that took her breath away. "May I?"

Elara's heart skipped a beat as she realized what he was asking. Without a word, she leaned forward, closing the distance between them. Their lips met in a fleeting yet achingly tender kiss—a silent promise of hope and longing shared in the midst of uncertainty.

As they parted, Theron's gaze held hers, his touch lingering on her cheek. "Until we meet again, Elara."

With a nod, Elara watched as Theron turned and walked away down the corridor, each step echoing in the hollow silence of the castle. She stood rooted to the spot, her heart torn between the ache of his departure and the warmth of his parting kiss—a bittersweet reminder of the bond they shared, and the hope for a future reunion.
