Lechoń felt a cold sweat on his back. He knew he had gone pale. Niedziałek didn't press the issue, yet Adam could feel the pressure in his eyes.
"It's possible," he admitted. "I think I know who the accomplice is..."
"Someone close to you? Is that why Kwiecień cared so much about your involvement in this case?"
"Someone from my past. Please don't ask. It wasn't a good time in my life and Commissioner Niedzic already knows about my assumptions. The law firm will not be implicated in anything..."
"It's not the law firm I'm worried about, but you. This case is eating you up too much."
Those kind words hurt Adam. He was not worthy of this kindness.
