Relief. That was the first thing I felt as the rain came down. I watched as the men quickly approached us, they stopped a few feet away when they noticed the condition Damien was in and looked back at the older man who was carrying the lantern.
"Please help him..." Tears blurred my vision, and two of the younger boys took Damien from me, lifting him up with ease.
"Let's go back to the main house..." The third younger man helped me to my feet. He had a head of what I assumed was dark brown hair and doesn't look half bad compared to most men from my village, he looked me over and spoke up. "You look like shit...why the hell were you two out here in the storm?"
Any other time I would have glared at him or told him off for the comment but I was too tired, both emotionally and physically.
The older man spoke up grabbing the boy's attention. "Henry, you can ask stupid questions later, we need to get them back to the house."
Henry rolled his eyes, and we walked forward following the older man. I watched as the two boys carrying Damien were careful of his wounds and hurrying back to their home.
One wrong step had me crying out in pain, as my injury flared up. Both the men stopped and looked back at me confused. When Henry noticed my leg his eyes widened. "Oh shit your hurt too!" He quickly helped me up and slung my arm over his shoulders, to support me.
Soon enough I could see lights, as we arrived at a small village. Cabin houses were spread around the area, and I couldn't see very much through the dark and rain. We passed by a few of the cabins and I could faintly see people watching us through the windows, as we got closer to the center I saw the giant house they were taking us to, it was some kind of lodge.
"Keith go get blankets and towels for our guests, Henry you take care of her, get some clean clothes from amber."
"Right." Henry helped me over to the lounge area in the house and I watched from over my shoulder as they started to drag Damien away, panic started creeping up my spine. I grabbed henrys shirt, stopping him. "Wait! Where are they taking him?!"
He gave me a sympathetic smile and set me down on the couch. "It's ok they are taking him to a guest room it will be easier to get him fixed up there. Don't worry, we got the best doctor around, he'll be fine..."
The man who I assumed was Keith came by and threw Henry a few towels before going back to the others.
"Here dry off with this, im gonna go grab you some dry clothes." I took the towel from Henry and he gave me a warm smile before running off. Using the towel I dried off my body the best I could, the last of my energy draining from my body as I settled down, my arms and legs felt heavy and I was cold.
I jumped when Henry came back into the room so suddenly, followed by an older woman. "Oh dear, you poor thing... I almost didn't believe it when my husband said he found an injured couple lost in the storm outside!"
They both came over to me and Henry set the clean clothes on the table. "Alright just strip out of those wet rags and throw these on!" I blushed bright red as the woman slapped Henry in the back of the head earning a confused 'ow'.
"Do not tell a woman to strip, now look away give the poor girl some decency!" Henry scratched the back of his head and turned away crossing his arms.
The lady gave me a warm smile and took my hands to help me stand. "Come now, I'll help you change, you don't have to worry about any of the boys seeing, they know better...at least most of them do." I smiled a little as she gave a small glare at Henry who seemed to shrink at the accusation.
I peeled off my soaking wet clothes and dried off with the towel once more, as she helped me to stand upright with my injured leg. Once I had the loose pajamas on I sat back on the couch. "Now to get you warmed up... Henry go retrieve a bowl of warm water, some clean washcloths, and a first aid kit."
He quickly left the room as I laid my head back and sighed. "Now then...what should I call you?" Looking back at the woman she piled up the dirty towels and my old torn clothes, her entire demeanor was calm and relaxed, I couldn't help but feel relieved by her friendly personality. "My name is Seraphina...but you can just call me sera..."
She smiled before sitting next to me with a towel and started to dry my hair. "Well sera you can relax now here you'll be safe and well taken care of, your friend is getting the medical attention he needs. So don't worry about anything alright? "
It felt strange being around this woman, so was so warm and welcoming to such a complete stranger.
Henry walked back into the room with his arms full and kneeled down in front of me setting everything on the wooden coffee table.
"I'm going to clean up your leg, it might sting a bit." He gave me a sad smile before dipping one of the rags into the warm water and patting ot against my skin.
I cringed and found to the arm of the couch as my face no doubt scrunched up in pain. The woman beside me grabbed my hand drawing my attention. "Henry, try to be a bit gentler she's not as tough as you or the rest of the boys."
"Sorry, this is a nasty injury, and the mud and rainwater didn't exactly help when it came to keeping it clean...what the hell happened to you?" He glanced at me before continuing his work.
"Henry! She's had a long day, we don't need to bring up what happend yet." I sighed, thankful for the woman's consideration, how was I supposed to tell her some deranged man attacked me, and Damien, being a giant wolf beast saved me? The mere thought of Damien had me worrying all over again, what if I was too late? What if his wounds were too deep, would they prove fatal? Would the pellets kill him? What if he transformed back into a beast...I hissed in pain again, squeezing the woman's hand, as Henry muttered a small apology.
"C-can I see Damien... Please, he wasn't doing well, what if he wakes up!?" Panic laced my voice as I moved, ready to get up and run out to find him.
"Honey you need to relax, look at me..." My eyes moved up to meet her green-colored irises. Her eyes widened as she looked at me surprised, and Henry stopped what he was doing to look at both of us confused.
"You...have silver eyes?" Her voice came out quiet and if it wasn't for how close she was im sure I wouldn't have heard her. She blinked a few times snapping out of her surprise before glancing at Henry then back at me. What was going on? "Sorry dear that just...I've never seen anyone with such a unique eye color..." I looked at her questioningly but decided to ignore the feeling crawling up the back of my neck.
"You don't need to worry about your friend, my husband and doctor will make sure he's well taken care of, you should just rest for the night. We have an extra room upstairs you can sleep in, we can talk more about what happend in the morning alright?." She smiled, but I could see the worry in her eyes as she got up and left the room.
Henry just shrugged off the strange reaction and finished up cleaning my wound before wrapping a bandage around it. "Well that should take care of your leg, the doc can take a closer look at it tomorrow, right now you look exhausted."
My eyes fell to the floor. I knew I must have looked terrible, I hadn't had proper meals lately and my living situation with Damien was a bit...strained. Everything that happened to me today had taken a toll on me both mentally and physically. The shock was probably the only reason my leg didn't hurt as much as it should.
Henry watched me for a moment before standing up and offering his hand. "Let's go get you into bed, you look like you could use the sleep. I only nodded before taking his hand. He helped support me as we made out way out of the lounge and into the hallway.
Before we got to the stairs I noticed the man from before who had lead us here, now talking to the woman who helped me, there was clear concern in both their features but once they noticed me and Henry, they covered it with a small smile.
"h-how is he...is he going to be okay?!" I felt my stomach twist at the idea that something was wrong." The man stepped forward to stand before me.
"Your friend is doing just fine he is very...tough...the doctor is taking care of him right now..." He stared at me for a moment before stiffening up when his eyes met mine. "Henry will take you upstairs to your room for the night, we can talk again tomorrow when you've gotten some rest..." He then turned away to speak with the woman and even Henry seemed confused by their strange reactions.
He helped me upstairs and opened the door to a small room, one side was a bed, pushed up against the wall with a dresser, across from us was a desk and some shelving. There was even a built-in closet.
I sat down on the bed and Henry gave me a warm smile. "Don't worry, if you two managed to push through the storm even with the injuries your sustained, then im sure your buddy will be alright, get some sleep, I'll see you in the morning.
I only nodded as he left the room, leaving me alone. Rain pelted the window as lightning flashed outside. Blowing out the candle by my bed I laid down. The only thing on my mind as I fell into a deep sleep was Damien.
