62.5% Reverend Insanity: Wandering Soul / Chapter 5: To kill or not to kill

Kapitel 5: To kill or not to kill

"Thank you, I promise to live up to your expectations."

Wang Wei thanked his great grandfather with a grateful smile. Inwardly he felt a little bad for wanting to kill Wang Hao.

[Ding]

'Oh.' Wang Wei quickly put that thought on the back of his head once he heard a ringing sound in his head when he refined Soul Blade Gu.

[Congratulations on becoming a legitimate GU master by refining your first GU.]

[You may choose 1 of the following rewards.]

[Any 1 Gu of your current rank.]

[3 answers to 3 questions]

[Ability to see your own luck at will]

'What the fuck? A system? Was this the thing that brought me here? Can heaven's will see this? Can others see this? Do the others have this?' Countless questions passed through Wang Wei's mind before focusing on what matters in his present.

'Just how much time do I have to pick?' Wang Wei inwardly asked but received no answer. There was also no timer in sight.

'Sigh too many questions. Maybe this screen only disappears when I pick one?' Wang Wei already saw how the screen could hinder him, especially in combat, but he didn't worry much about it. He already knew what he wanted.

"Anything else?" Wang Hao asked the absent minded Wang Wei.

"I'm just savoring this feeling." Wang Wei immediately lied on the spot while quickly refining liquor worm with Wang Hao's will cooperation. "I'm fortunate enough to be able to walk the path I want, thank you."

"..." Wang Hao remained silent, remembering his young self being forced to cultivate wind path, a path he didn't like but was the only one available to him.

"If you don't mind me I'll take this snake head. It's my favorite part of your tea."

Wang Hao was brought out of his thoughts by Wang Wei, who didn't wait for an answer and bit the snake's head with his teeth, killing it and swallowing it.

Immediately, Wang Wei experienced the snake's life: from being hatched from the egg, wriggling its body on the hot and cold sand of the desert, to being captured after being lured by a mouse and enduring torture.

The snake was cut into pieces, its fangs plucked, rendering it defenseless before being tossed in wine. He constantly felt the wine burning his wounds for weeks, only to be tossed into boiling water and given temporary relief by being poured into a teacup, but even then, his suffering didn't end.

The snake witnessed the conversation between Lin Cheng Wu and Wang Hao and managed to live a little longer before being mercilessly killed by himself, Wang Wei. Its head was bitten, its skull was crushed, and its brains were pierced. The snake, Wang Wei, managed to live long enough to see the fate of its remains. A pool of gastric acid waiting to turn him into shit.

"Good tea. It's getting better and better." Wang Wei's expression didn't change one bit after experiencing such horrific death.

He had experienced worse and even complimented his great grandfather while nurturing his aperture with rank 1 middle stage primeval essence.

'I see… was heaven's will helping me? Or trying to hinder me? Or what was giving me thoughts of killing Wang Cheng? This system? The creator of this system?' Wang Wei started piecing the information he had at hand while savoring the dissipating blade tea of Wang Hao.

Wang Wei felt as if razor-sharp blades traveled down inside his throat, opening wounds, only for the blades to travel back where they came from, closing them and leaving the refreshing feeling of healed wounds. This repeated several times, less intense each time but never failing to put his mind on alert.

'If I hadn't realized I was being influenced by something and killed Wang Cheng I would be in a worse position than the current one.' Wang Wei concluded after a quick analysis in his head.

'Killing a Gu master of one's own clan without a good excuse is considered treason and traitors get no mercy. Much less when they are talented I would've been executed publicly on the same day unless Wang Hao helped me escape.' Wang Wei thought the last part was highly unlikely.

'That would be the perfect excuse for the Feng Clan leader to get rid of Wang Hao and the Wang Faction. Forcing Wang Hao to flee and accept Lin Cheng Wu's offer. He would be safe. The Feng Clan can't touch him but they can threaten him with the family members left behind. He cares about each one of them; otherwise, he would have reduced the numbers a long time ago.'

Wang Wei kept thinking at rocket speeds while listening to Wang Hao.

"I'll send the primeval stones to your room. Rest well. Tomorrow is the first day of the academy. You'll also get to choose a Gu from the clan." Wang Hao spoke while grabbing his opium pipe from a cabinet along with some red and green herbs.

"If you don't find soul path, Gu worms choose Fire Path. It compliments well, or a defensive gu soul path lacks defense until rank 3." Wang Hao advised Wang Wei who once again thanked him and prepared to leave the room.

"One more thing before you go." Wang Hao lit up his opium pipe before continuing. "Walking the path you want includes facing the dangers related to it. Many have recklessly tried to impress me by choosing a path our family has no foundation in. Only to come crawling back to me and choose the easy way."

Wang Hao took a puff, slowly releasing the smoke while offering his opium pipe to Wang Wei, who couldn't hide the surprise in his eyes.

"I have faith you won't regret your decision. You might switch paths, it's your choice but I hope you never give up walking the path you like. Keep walking it until you leave your predecessors in the dust."

Huff

Cough!

Wang Wei exhaled the smoke, coughing almost immediately feeling his entire body turning stiff while sleepiness washed over his mind numbing his senses.

'What the hell, why are you always smoking this? Is this another power play?'

Wang Wei returned the pipe to Wang Hao with a stiff and uncoordinated movement as he fought to remain awake.

"I might be putting an impossible task on your shoulders but try to see the peak of your path, something I never managed to do." Wang Hao spoke while he sat and continued smoking, returning to his usual position leaning against the chair with his eyes closed to savor the smoke. "Drag Wang Cheng on your way out."

"Yes, grandfather." Wang Wei looked down at the floor where Wang Cheng lay unconscious with 2 Gu worms on a small pillowed box resting on his back.

'Should I kill him now?' Wang Wei thought while dragging Wang Cheng by the leg, closing the door, and stopping just one step away from the long stone stairs going down.

'Accidents always happen in this house, stair accidents are one of the most common. Everyone knows the obvious but Wang Hao doesn't care. No, he wants this to happen. There's far too much death weight in this family eating at the family's foundation but he can't bring himself to kill them with his own hands.'

Wang Wei grabbed Wang Cheng carrying him in his arms like the typical bride being carried down the stairs.

Back resting on the right arm thighs on the left while the long untied black mane hung down like a cascade of petroleum uncovering Wang Cheng's burned right side that looked no different from a melted candle.

If a stranger looked up they would think Wang Wei had just saved a victim from a fire. If Wang Wei changed the way he was holding him they would think he was kidnapping an unconscious beauty.

'This reminds me of the legends of Ren Zu.' Wang Wei looked down at the face of Wang Wei, seeing both sides, the good and bad, in the same place.

'I could break his neck and toss him downstairs but he hasn't refined his Gu worms. It would be suspicious but no one would care. I could fall with him and pretend it was an accident.' Wang Wei planned while trying to put the inspiration of the legends of Ren Zu he was having.

'I'm strong, and he is small and light, but no one would really care or do anything. His father is a spineless coward. If he wasn't, Wang Cheng would never have been burned. But… How would Wang Hao react? I'll be the only remaining talent. He'll have no choice but to give Blade Aptitude Gu to me, but he also cares for Wang Cheng more than the rest of the horde of his other great-grandsons.'

Wang Wei thought while taking his first step forward another and he'll step on the stairs.
