Kapitel 30: Chapter 30 - Retaliation

The wave of monsters was fast approaching. Ambrosia and I lay on the ground, exhausted and defenseless. The Zodiac was a force of nature, not to be trifled with. Although we greatly outnumbered them, they outpowered us...

But just when we thought it was all over, the top ten arrived, armed with their weapons, ready to save us, and the city. Camp Alpha, was about to retaliate. Marius saw them approaching, and his eyes widened.

"What!? What are they doing here? I thought they were transferred!" Marius was unaware of the meeting that had taken place between the top ten, being sent here without Henka's accompaniment. Henka arrived shortly after Marius, but the two never exchanged words. This led to a fork in their plans...

"You thought wrong, you zodiac scum," said Steward Slayer, emerging from the crowd, rapier in hand, lunging toward Marius to impale him.

"Who the hell are yo-ACK!"

The rapier pierced Marius's chest and exited through the other side of his body. Marius coughed up some blood and looked into Alanzo's eyes. Then, he smiled, and fainted. Alanzo removed his weapon, and Marius's body fell.

"Target eliminated. Now then, let us focus on the countless monsters at ha-" Alanzo was then interrupted by a voice from behind him...

"If I knew you ten would be here, I would have never initiated an attack, but now that you're all here, there's no going back. CHARGE!" yelled Marius, appearing behind Alanzo. A few more monsters charged at full speed toward the top ten. Alanzo panicked.

"Tch! What the hell was that? How did you do that?"

"Heheheh, how naive you are. Worry not about how I live, and worry more about how you're going to live."

Alanzo turned around and saw a monster running toward him. It swung its fist his way, and Alanzo dodged, nearly being hit. He landed on the ground, and immediately leaped into the air, impaling the eye of the monster.

"Human or not, you're a threat, and need to die! I will protect my people to the end!"

Alanzo ripped the monster's eye out, and did the same to the other one, before piercing it in the chest, killing it. The other monsters witnessed as their companion fell to the ground, dead. One of them began to speak, in a similar eldritch voice as Boruto.

"Damn you, heroes, you're doing nothing but contributing to the problem. I'll avenge you, Tybalt!"

"Ah, another one? Come and get some!" said Alanzo. Then, the monster ran full speed at him, in a zigzag pattern, to try and confuse him. It seemed to be working.

"Ah, what's this? He's moving so erratically, I can't seem to gauge his trajectory!"

"Hang on! I got this!" shouted a voice from the left. It was Tasuki, the profiling prodigy. He would be able to study the monster's movement and copy its pattern, leading to a guaranteed collision.

Tasuki ran in front of Alanzo and mimicked the monster's movement pattern perfectly. He then pulled out two swords and jumped into the air, readying himself to strike. The monster opened its mouth in an attempt to eat Tasuki.

When he and the monster collided, he spun in the air, with both swords, slashing across the monster's jaw, slicing it off. The jaw of the humanoid fell, and so did its body. Soon after, it too perished. 28 monsters remained. Marius was starting to panic.

"Shit! These heroes are no joke. They're the top 10 for a reason. I need to think of a strategy, and fast."

But before Marius could order his legion of monsters, the entirety of the top ten swarmed into the group. Ambrosia was still recovering from her massive usage of energy, and I was practically out of commission. We were retrieved by Grandmaster, who led us to a safe spot, before returning to the battle.

"Everyone, rush them and kill as many as you can before they have a chance to strike back! If you're in danger, get out of there!" yelled Grandmaster to the crowd.

Death's Twin pulled his hood over his head, and his eyes started glowing white. Then, in a few swift diagonal motions, he made his way to a group of three monsters, pulled out his scythe, and jumped in the air.

He impaled the torso of each monster, slicing and cutting them open. They tried to smack him away with their hands, but he cut their fingers off before they could land any hits on him. Quickly, Saburo had taken down three monsters.

"Tch! Quit standing around like a deer in headlights and do something! Go after them!" yelled Marius to his crowd of monster people. However, they all seemed terrified of what was taking place. Some even opted to run away into the wilderness.

"Useless! I clearly need to train you all on how to be monsters! AH, WHAT'S GOING ON!?"

Marius was then greeted by a blinding light. The rest of the heroes averted their eyes from the brilliance of it. Marius was confused, what could be the source of such luminosity?

"What the hell is that?"

Marius opened his eyes slightly and realized what was going on. Standing in front of a group of 7 monsters, was Natsuo Ren AKA "Divine Knight"... He had one hand over his chest, and the other in the air next to him. He was glowing white, creating an unsurmountable light.

He had a slight, but genuine smile on his face. He looked like an angel straight out of heaven. He drew his sword with both hands, gazed into the crowd of monsters, and spoke...

"...only God can save you now..." These bone-chilling words sent shivers down Marius's spine.

"Uh oh, there goes Natsuo, everyone, run!" shouted the other heroes, before retreating from the scene. Marius was left stunned.

Then, Natsuo lifted his sword into the air, and brought it down with incredible force. When it made contact with the ground, a bright flash of light illuminated the area for a short second, before ceasing back into darkness...

Everything happened in an instant. No sound was made, and no damage had seemingly been done. All that Marius saw was the sword hitting the ground, and then a light, and then nothing... but then-

"...Blessed be His Holy Name, I can do everything through him who giveth me strength..." said Natsuo, before re-sheathing his sword, and signing the cross across his body. Then, he snapped his fingers, and the 7 monsters evaporated into dust...

"...HOW DID YOU DO THAT?" yelled Marius. But before Natsuo could answer, he fainted. He had used his most powerful attack to evaporate 7 monsters, leaving him with zero energy left over. However, he had enough energy to muster out a few words to his comrades.

"Good luck...God Bless Etheria..."

"He's out? Now's my chance! You'll pay for what you did to them. GO MY LEGION, ANNIHILATE THAT MAN!"

Three more monsters sped towards Natsuo's body. They were going to try stepping on him, crushing him to death. As they approached his body, they began to laugh to themselves, smiling with malice...

"Heheh heh, you bitch, you're in for it now!" said the monsters, approaching Natsuo. One of them raised their foot into the air and brought it down. Natuso's body was smashed...

"I GOT HIM! I ACTUALLY GOT HIM!" said Marius with glee. Eliminating one of the top ten heroes would make his plans much easier.

"NATSUO!" yelled Daphne from the crowd. Despite being blind, she was aware of what had just happened, and it enraged her... Jirochi Iwato "Gunslinger Master" took notice of this immediately.

"Wait, Daphne! Don't do anything you'll regret!" said Jirochi, busy taking down 2 monsters of his own, unleashing a hailstorm of bullets upon them, piercing them from all directions. However, Daphne had already boiled over.

She had already killed 2 monsters and was itching to kill a few more, and the death of Natsuo Ren was enough to tip her over the edge.

"They killed Natsuo! Do you realize how much I loved him!? I'm GOING TO FUCKING KILL THEM ALL! Nobody stop me, or you're dead too!"

"Wait!" yelled Jirochi, but Daphne didn't listen...

It seemed Daphne and Natsuo had an established relationship. His death affected her in a way that nobody else would ever understand... and she was about to unleash it all on the remaining monsters. 11 monsters remained out of the original 30...

"Heh, and who are you supposed to be? Are you a lost child? You better run off back home before something happens to you..." said Marius, laughing.

"Oh, you've done it now... you've REALLY done it now..." said Daphne, breaking into an extremely wide grin. Her sharp teeth screamed danger, as she began to bite her own lips, causing blood to spill from them.

"Are you trying to intimidate me? It's not working, little girl. What's with that blindfold of yours? It looks stupid..."

Daphne then began to move her ears and feet, something she did when she was deeply analyzing her surroundings. She was gathering information about the exact positions of what was around her, as well as calculating thousands of possible movement patterns per second...

"What are you doing now? You look like you're shivering, are you scared?"

Daphne then emerged from the crowd of heroes, having gathered all the information she needed. She stopped in the field and pulled out her dual-wielded daggers.

"I see... you're talking big because you don't have to do any work yourself, and are relying on your monster friends around you to do your bidding... am I right?" asked Daphne.

"Yep, that's right. It's useless trying to kill me too, as you could probably tell. Good luck avenging your little boyfriend over there!" said Marius. Daphne then opened her mouth slightly, blood spilling out of it.

"Mmmmm, alright, you've pissed me off. I guess I should probably start trying now. Let's start by taking this thing off..."

Daphne then lifted her hands and untied her blindfold... she removed it, revealing her eyes... they were the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen before. They severely outclassed Yui's and Ambrosia's, and that was saying something, considering my feelings towards them.

Daphne's eyes were colorless... I guess you could call them gray, but they perceived zero light, and zero color. She was totally blind, yet her eyes shined with the brilliance of a thousand suns. Her face lit up, as she smiled with glee.

"Gaze into the eyes of the monster who killed your boyfriend, and tell me what you see..." said Marius.

Daphne turned her head right and looked in the direction of the monster who had killed Natsuo. Then, she started giggling to herself, as if she was about to crack a joke, and indeed she did.

"You know, Marius, close your eyes, and tell me what you see."

"What? I see nothing, why?"

"That's the spirit! That's what I see all the time!"

"Wait... YOU'RE BLIND!? HOW THE HELL DO YOU FIGHT THEN?"

Daphne turned her head back toward Marius, and assumed a smug expression. She licked her lips, and winked at him, freaking him out, and throwing him into a false sense of security.

"Ew, don't do that!"

"I fight because I can... allow me to demonstrate how I feel about you killing my boyfriend. Attention, all monster people within a 10-mile radius, you're done for, there is no escaping! HEHEE!"

Daphne then lunged from the ground and pulled her daggers out. She targeted the monster who killed Natsuo first, decapitating him instantly. She then moved to the other two monsters by his side and decapitated them as well.

She landed gracefully on the ground, and the three bodies fell. It all happened in such a short amount of time, that Marius could barely capture it! Daphne began smelling the air, and started to drool.

"Mmmm yes, the sweet smell of success. If I wasn't aware of the effects monster guts have on people, I would be devouring these three right now..."

The other heroes had retreated to the hill where Ambrosia and I were. They seemed to not want to interfere, and simply let Daphne do her thing. She was in the zone, but Marius had a plan of his own...

"ugh...I think it's time I start fighting myself, because obviously, these dumbasses can't seem to land a hit on you!" said Marius, assuming an expression of anger.

"Oh, so you can fight too? You haven't moved much since this whole sequence initiated! Let's see what you can do then!" said Daphne.

"Allow me to demonstrate, the reason you shouldn't have interfered with my plans..." said Marius. Then, he put his hand into his coat and pulled out a Karambit... he was about to fight, for the first time...
