Kapitel 118: Where were you?

-Sorry this is late. The nanny is on HBO and I've been binge watching it.

Packing up the supplies for school in my backpack, I jog down the stairs into the kitchen. It feels good to be back to normal, me and Alexander are closer than ever. Since I thought he was dead when he went one on one with Sasha, and he thought something bad happened to me when she kidnapped me.

Now, were telling each other everything and not leaving out any secrets. If we want our relationship to flourish, we have to be honest all the time, no matter what. Sasha is dead, finally, so we don’t have to worry about me having to wake up some thousand-year-old witches, or me or someone else risking their lives.

There is fear that her father would want to seek revenge on the ones that killed his daughter. That’s Alexander and everyone in his circle, it’s been a couple days and nothing bad has happened. We are crossing our fingers every hour of every day. Leaning against the counter, I see my father and Irene conversating with each other.

I didn’t hear her come in, it’s rather early in the morning for her to be here. She holds a cup of hot coffee in one hand, while readjusting her silk white shirt. My father just stares at her, as if she’s the only thing that exists in the universe. The only constant, the thing that keeps him on Earth.

“Good morning, Quinn.” Irene says in a chipper voice. I swear she’s always happy and smiling when I see her. That smile has never left her face since I've known her.

“Morning, what are you doing here so early?” I grab one of my grandpa’s famous muffins from the vintage china plate. Steam rises from the small holes in it, the blueberry smell fills the air. This is something I missed when I was trapped in Oslow with Katana.

“Oh. I’m taking your grandfather out for his birthday today.” My eyes widen, crap with everything going on I forgot it was his birthday today. He looks at me, noticing that I forgot.

“You forgot didn’t you.” My grandpa says edging in the conversation.

“NO! No, I could never forget your birthday. In fact, after school I was going to go pick up your cake from that bakery you like. Carla’s Cake Emporium.” Mental note, stop by Carla’s and get a cake. Hopefully they have this favorite available, Marble Cake.

“It’s Caitlin’s Cake Emporium.” He says correcting me. Damn, I really thought it was Carla’s Cake Emporium.

“They both start with the letter C, so yeah. This- this will be the best birthday you ever had trust me.” I pour the steaming hot coffee into my flower cup, and put a few extra muffins in a zip lock bag.

“It is.” He looks up from his coffee mug, his eyes bore into mine. “Hey, why don’t you stay home today. . .with everything you been through you might want to take a break.” I let out a sigh and tilt my head to the side. He’s been pressing me to stay home, thinking that it isn't safe for me out there. Or Sasha may come back from the dead and kill me on the spot.

“Irene, would you mind if I talked to my grandpa alone.” She sits down her mug on the tan counter, and starts walking towards the living room. Once she’s gone, I start talking freely with my grandpa.

“I can’t stay cooped up in the house. I need to live my life.” His eyes revert from mine, angry that I’m not agreeing with him.

“How do you know Sasha is really dead. She is a red wolf, it’s hard to kill one of those.”

“Alexander said she’s dead, he’s the one who killed her.” I said annoyingly. Since Alexander killed her, he’s been having a hard time coping with it. Yes, he indeed hated Sasha I mean she kidnapped his girlfriend. But still, it was a life and he took it. I’ve been spending most of my free time at the pack house with him making sure that he was alright and won’t do anything irrational.

“Still, her father is probably angry at his ONLY CHILD’S death. And may want to take it out on the killer’s lover.” He gives me a stern look.

“I’ll be fine I’m only going to school. The worst thing that could happen is I get a scratch from P.E. If anything, bad happens you’ll be the first I call.” I kiss him on the cheek and head towards the front door. “Bye Irene.”

“Bye honey have a good day!”

Slamming my locker shut, I adjust my books in my arms. It’s the first day I’ve been back, never thought I would be happy to be here at school of all places.

“Kidnapped.” I hear a voice say from behind me. My body jolts up in fear, turning around I see that it’s Kate. Her dark blonde hair is pinned up in a ponytail, as her burger earring dangle from her ear lobes. You could say that Kate has a.. . very particular style of fashion.

“What did you say?”

“Were you like kidnapped or something, me and the girls haven’t seen you or Lyra in 2 days. What’s going on?” We walk down the hallway towards my economic class. While I have economics first period Kate has Biology, which is in a different direction. Some is going to be late.

“Won’t you be late Kate?” She shakes her head at me, not bothering by anything.

“It’ll be fine, we have a sub today. I’ll just say that I’m on my period and the cramps are kicking.” She clutches onto her stomach, groaning out in pain. Oh, she’s really good. “So, tell me where you guys were?”

Oh, just getting kidnapped by a psycho wolf so she could use me to wake up a bunch of thousand-year-old dead witches, I think to myself. Instead of telling her the truth, I tell a little white lie.

“Me and Lyra got into club ten and had a massive hangover.” We did go to a club, so it’s half true half a lie.

“You guys are bad. Why didn’t you invite us?” She bumps her hips with mine while giving me one of her dazzling smiles.

“It was a small group thing, trust me if it wasn’t you and the girls would have definitely been invited. Speaking of girls, where the hell is Lyra?” Usually, we always meet at my locker and walk to economics together, but she’s nowhere in site.

“I haven’t seen her, neither has Jack.” She may be sick, or still in shock of what happened on that very night. I wish that she didn’t hide in the backseat of my car when I left the club, I need to start looking in the back of car before driving off. Alexander didn’t want anyone to know about this life, and me either. Not only to protect Alexander and his pack, but Lyra and others. It’s too late now, now she knows.

My grandpa said when she came to the house to tell him what happened to me, she was pretty shaken up. She even had to run someone over, to save her life of course. Like Alexander, that leaves a permanent scar on someone. Maybe Lyra and Alexander should talk, get to talk about what they're going through.

“She’s probably still hung over; you know how Lyra can drink.”

“Got that right, hey see you later ok.”

“Ok, bye.” She skips down the hall to Biology class, her burger earring dangle from her ears.

Walking into economics class, everyone is sitting in their chairs talking amongst each other. I squeeze through the desks to get to mine. I get my books out, getting ready to get caught up on 2 days of missed work. My eyes turn over to the desk next to me, someone comes in and sits in it. But the person isn’t Lyra, it’s someone I never wanted to see again. Someone I thought dead.

What the hell is he doing here?

“Missed me?” A grim smile forms.
