Chapter 42: Makoto's Stealing Another Man's Woman
After talking for a bit, Makoto finally came up to the helm with some paperwork.
"What took you so long?"
"Father isn't exactly known for being organized."
I looked at her briefly thinking, 'Like father, like daughter.' Makoto was carrying several pieces of paper on him.
"I'm afraid the wind will carry the paper away. Do you mind if we took this somewhere a little less windy?"
Guy 1 thought about it for a second before he agreed.
The three of us then boarded his ship simply by jumping and we made our way inside. We didn't get to see the bridge unfortunately but we did get to see the interesting parts.
The ship we were in actually wasn't a combat ship. It was more like a… party boat? The design was unique, that's for sure. After walking for a few minutes I had to ask what was on my mind.
"Where did you get this ship? The technology is far more advanced than anything you have outside."
Most of the ships that were pointing cannons at us were made of wood and using sails. Yet this ship no doubt had a motor and a propeller. It looked far too modern.
"It's not hard to guess, I suppose. One of our ancestors came to this world on this ship a long time ago. We've passed it down from generation to generation."
"Can it fly?"
The way he said it made me think of a spaceship. Maybe it was?
"Uh no… I don't think so?"
Now I'm definitely curious. I looked around the place briefly before turning my head to Alora.
"Do you have a shower she could use?"
Alora began to blush from embarrassment before shifting to anger. She was about to say something but Guy 1 intervened.
"We do, just go straight until you meet a corner then turn right."
Alora, still looking angry and embarrassed, shyly answered with, "Thank you." Before walking away.
"You don't have cameras in your shower do you?"
Guy 1 looked at me in shock and confusion, "It's our ship. Why would we do that?"
I've seen some gross fetishes in my time. Trust me that's not the worst thing that can happen.
After this light discussion we sat at a small booth and started talking about what really matters.
"You still haven't answered one of my questions. How do you know our native tongue?"
Guy 1 looked at me for a second like he was debating on answering. After a second he just sighed.
"It's the ship, it sends out a psychic wave around it and takes it back in and translates what it's reading. It does this instantaneously."
"So it reads our thoughts?"
I didn't like that at all. Something like that can be used against me easily. Fortunately I haven't lied to him so far. We are going east, I just didn't tell him where.
"Only on a surface level. The ship isn't a sentient being so it can't really comprehend thoughts nor does it say it out loud. It just translates the intent behind what you say."
He makes it sound like it's not a big deal, but it is. Intent can mean many things, what's worse is that we're not the master of the ship we don't know the full extent of what's being convened. Are they just words? Or emotions as well?
'I want this ship for myself.'
… Nothing happened? Guy 1 is just sitting casually reading through his paper. He doesn't seem like much of a negotiator so I have a feeling that if he sensed my greed and jealousy he would react in some way.
I thought that but when I looked to Makoto's side I saw him eyeing me like he wanted to tell me something. At first I didn't understand, but suddenly I realized something.
"Are you the master of this ship?"
Guy 1 looked up from his papers briefly and answered, "I am yes." Before getting back to his paperwork.
I watched him for a second before I asked the ultimate question, "Tea?"
He looked up from his paperwork and just said yes without asking where the tea came from.
I used my storage and spawned in a hot teapot of tea. Nice and ready.
I made four cups of tea and poured it for three people before using one of my grandfather's spells, [WHISPERING VOICE.]
The spell was simple, it was a weaker version of the original spell [AMPLIFY] but it was good for sending messages across. I put the tea cup in front of my mouth and rolled my tongue like I was speaking while emitting a faint trace of magic. Without the cover I would look like I was a ventriloquist. It would be subtle, but if you paid close attention you would notice that something was off.
I quickly whispered the words, {Please tell me, you didn't steal his ship.}
Makoto looked at me briefly before coughing lightly and then put his cup to his mouth before I heard a voice behind my ear, {I didn't mean to, she just liked me more.}
I closed my eyes and sighed at the nonsense I had to deal with. I sat there drinking my tea while Guy 1 just sat there none the wiser.
{She?} That's the only thing I could come up with. I was already getting fed up with this father daughter duo.
{Well it turns out, despite what the people on this island believe… This ship is actually alive… and she hates them.}
I looked at him like he was an idiot. I was genuinely worried for this man's state of mind right now.
{I'm serious! She told me they only keep her docked inside of a dark warehouse all by herself and rarely clean her. It's a real tragedy. Anyway, as soon as I touched her, she accepted me as her master. At the moment I've made it so that her temporary master is this guy, but she only translates good things for him to hear. Meaning you could tell him any lie right now and he would believe it. So you're welcome.}
"Admiral, are you ok? You've been chugging that tea for a while now."
I couldn't help but want to experiment… Just a little.
"Oh don't worry about him. The tea he's drinking helps him poop easier. He's had extreme constipation his whole life you see. A real tragedy."
Makoto just turned his head slowly like he was going to strangle me any second now.
"Oh I see. There's nothing to be ashamed of. Perhaps you should lay off the sugar then. Sugar is like a strong adhesive that just makes everything stick together. Trust me I know."
Oh I didn't know that, good thing I'm not that much into candy then.
"How's your little brother doing? I heard it doesn't work anymore."
Really? That's what you want to do? Ok, let's play.
"Oh those are just rumors, ask your mother. She said it works just fine. Speaking of which, she told me you lost yours after you had your daughter. Should you really be showing your mother something like that? That's my job."
Guy 1 just stared at us wide eyed in shock as he just sipped his tea. Even Makoto had nothing to say as he just continued drinking his tea.
"Hmm."
"Hmm."
{GG}
{GG}
Makoto and I just sipped our tea casually while Guy 1 just watched us from the corner of his eye until he went back to reading his paperwork.
…
After a few minutes of waiting, Guy 1 finally looked up from his paper and looked impressed.
"I have to say, I'm surprised. You have everything you need to start a colony. Or at least support one. Why?"
He narrowed his eyes a little. I thought it was strange but suddenly I felt something. It was the feeling of frustration and a bit of fear. I looked over to Makoko for a second before realizing this was his doing.
His ship was conveying Guy 1's emotions to us. Yet despite that, it was very helpful at the moment. Truth is, I couldn't think of a very good lie to tell and I also didn't see a reason to lie.
"Truthfully? We heard rumors of a colony that was in need of supplies. We were heading in that direction. Do you know anything about it?"
Guy 1 did not show much but I already knew he was annoyed with my answer. Even so, he didn't show it, nor did he try to stop us.
"Yes, I know about it."
Makoto and I exchanged looks and just sat down drinking tea until I decided to push a little.
"We'll offer a discount…"
Guy 1 pursed his lips a little and sighed, but deep down there was a bit of reluctance.
I wasn't entirely sure why though, I thought it had something to do with him being an elf so I didn't say anything, but I felt like we were at the point in our relationship where I could try asking.
Guy 1 seemed to sense my 'honest' and 'heartfelt' feelings coming from the ship as he sighed and told us the reason.
"The land is called Rosary. Once upon a time the natives used to trade with the elves. In fact you could even argue that they were the only reason the elves managed to thrive and survive for so long."
I was getting excited! I loved lore.
"Eventually after the war we were forced to find a new home… Many of us thought that all was lost and we were just going to be picked off one by one by the dwarves until the 'High Elves' decided to abandon our homeland and leave."
I feel like I should be eating popcorn right now. Would that be rude?
"Unfortunately the majority of our kind wanted to leave after the world tree was destroyed. It was the High Elvin Counsil that wanted to give everyone sanctuary. Elven kind agreed quicker than you could count to 3."
"One thing led to another and they sent over an armada to pick us all up. There were enough ships to carry millions… but… it just didn't make sense… it was like they were all eager to leave. They wanted to set up our new home as quickly as possible. While some… wanted to stay."
What? That sounds… ominous…
"The ones that went awol were later hunted and executed without trial. Most found it suspicious but the High Elves tried to comfort the people. Besides, it wasn't like we had a choice. The dwarves were on a killing spree across the continent. Nowhere was safe."
"Eventually some of our elders decided to board our own ships. You see, my people are actually from our own country. An island just like this one. When we heard the news of every elven country banding together to flee… we knew we had to follow. Out of everyone we came out the least harmed. With minimal losses and the highest population."
There was something I didn't understand then…
"Why settle here then?"
