Kapitel 33: Battle Class and Lunch Discussion

Back to Mr. Figg's question, Paul answered disregarding the critical eyes of more than half of the class.

"Well, to be honest, I'm quite excited regarding our future lessons. Personally, despite being a book lover, learning with example is still very interesting. I've heard from the teachers that we would even see and be able to use the actual Pokemons when discussing in the Beginner's Class and the Doctor's Class. The Contest Class, on the other hand, made my impression on Pokemon Contests deeper, and emphasized that it's not all about beauty. So, overall, I'm looking forward with all the classes, including yours too Mr. Figg." Paul finished with a smile.

"Wow. Thank you for your short, but comprehensive review regarding today's orientation. Me too, I hope that you guys would be excited regarding the topics of our class. As we are already familiar with each other, let's skip the introduction part and immediately talk about the Battle Class's curriculum." Mr. Figg directly discussed the agenda.

"Battle Class, as its name speaks about itself, is all about Battles, Pokemon Battles to be precise. Here we would practice, and hone your skills in Pokemon Battles, not only familiarizing yourselves in the types of Pokemon Battles, but also the different modes of Pokemon Battles. I'm not sure if you know, but as an Expert Trainer who's been battling for years, there are a lot of battle kinds out there. This class will make sure, that by the time you graduate, you all would be familiar with all types of battles."

He paused for a while to let the message sink in and resumed after a few seconds. "There are different types of Pokemon Battles. The most famous ones are the Solo Play Pokemon Battles. The example of Solo Play Pokemon Battles, or SPP Battles for short, is the most common way of battling in the current alliance tournaments and gym challenges. SPP Battles could be divided into six types, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, and 6v6."

"All of these are elimination battles, meaning, once your representing Pokemon is knocked out or unable to battle, you need to replace your Pokemon with another one until you defeat all the pokemons of your opponent or vice versa; that is if it's more than 1v1. If it's 1v1, it's quite direct to the point. Defeat your opponents' pokemon to win."

"Now, for the next type, it's Duo Play Pokemon Battle, or DPP Battles, more familiarly known as Duo Battles. It's similar to the SPP Battles, but here you have two pokemons representing you. There are three types of DPP Battles, 2v2, 4v4, and 6v6. The rules here is to battle using two pokemons and replace one once it is knocked out. This is an elimination system too. Though, here, the gameplay uses two pokemons at once, thus the tactics and battle commands are quite more different and diverse."

"The last type is known as the Team Play Pokemon Battles, or TPP Battles for short. There are only two types of this, which is the 3v3, and 6v6. The former, a trainer competes with three pokemons until the opponents' three pokemons are knocked out, or vice versa. The latter, however, uses six pokemons to knock out the opponents' pokemon. There is no replacement in both battles, thus the pokemons you use in a team battle, couldn't be changed. Once the battle starts, it would last until all your pokemons or your opponents' pokemons in the arena are knocked out. The tactics here are very heavy, thus it's a whole lot harder than the first two types of Pokemon Battles." He stopped as he finished writing out the types of Pokemon Battles on the board.

After a few minutes of rest, he continued. "Now, those are the types of Pokemon Battles. Now we're going to discuss the different modes of Pokemon Battles. There are two modes of Pokemon battles, Field Pokemon Battles or Commanded Pokemon Battles. The latter is the mode where most are familiar with. The trainer is outside the arena, commanding the Pokemons all throughout the battle. The former, however, will be doing field command. Meaning, the trainer is included in the arena, thus he should learn how to dodge, and avoid the attacks as he commands his Pokemon. Here, knocking out the opponent trainer directly by yourself is allowed, though commanding your Pokemon to knock the opposing trainer out isn't allowed, as the opponent might die inadvertently."

"The Field Pokemon Battles is also diverse like the Commanded Pokemon Battles. The Pokemon Alliance allows the Field Commanding in SPP Battles and the DPP Battles. The Field Commanding of a TPP Battles, though, is rarely used, as most death of trainers were accounted in this type of mode of Pokemon Battles in the past. Thus, official Field TPP Battles are needed to be recognized by the alliance. The most well-known player of this mode is the past Champion of Kanto Region, Professor Oak."

Mr. Figg stopped for a few minutes, as he saw how shocked the students are regarding the different types of Pokemon Battles.

"Yes, I know, you didn't expect that there are a lot of Pokemon Battles. However, within the four years of this class, you would learn and experience all of this. Yes, including Field Pokemon Battles, though that would be in your fourth year. For now, in the first year, I would teach more about the mode of Command Battle, specifically SPP Battles of 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. Next year you can expect for the Command Battle, SPP Battles of 4v4, 5v5, and 6v6. Your third year would be more about DPP Battles, and TPP Battles. Your fourth year would entail wholly for Field Pokemon Battles, and all its types. Quite exciting, isn't it?" Mr. Figg asked, as he finished, with a sly grin.

The children blanched, as they thought, 'I did not sign up for this.'

Mr. Figg just further explained how they would not only grow as a trainer, but their Pokemons would grow with them, as well. The class then got excited about battling with their respective pokemons, forgetting the hardships they would encounter in the future. Mr. Figg also expanded on how they would also learn survival tips, not only in the Field Battle, but also in the wild, during the fourth-year class, which made the students wary again.

Paul was quite amused regarding the students' reaction. As they were mostly from prominent families, he could imagine why they were so averted in thought of involving themselves in the actual Pokemon Battle. He was quite curious actually, regarding the Field Command Battles. Though, he would need to be more quick, responsive, and also try to beat the opponent trainer with Close Combat skills.

Luckily, Paul's quite knowledgeable regarding fighting because of his self-defense classes before. As an owner of two companies, it's really quite dangerous for him to not have any means of protecting himself. Thus, he was really thankful that he decided to learn self-defense skills, specifically mixed martial arts. However, what he learned more leant on Krav-Maga and Judo. It's still on the future though, it would still take three years before he encounters Field Commanding, so Paul will focus on the present first.

After Mr. Figg's Battle Class, he dismissed the students for their Lunch Break. Paul, Steven, Amber, and Jake, the same as yesterday, shared a table in the cafeteria. The school cafeteria offers one meal on lunch for all students, Pokemon food included. If you or your pokemon want more though, you need to pay for it.

Amber immediately started a topic with them. "Hey, what do you think about our subjects?"

Paul took the initiative to reply, "Well, for me, I like the Beginner's Class the most. Discussing Pokemons from different regions! That's amazing." He sighed with satisfaction as he remembered the curriculum for the four years of Beginner's Class.

"I am more interested in the Battle Class though. It's quite diverse, and it seems very thrilling and exciting." Steven inputted his thoughts.

"What about you Jake?" Amber asked the one currently being quiet.

"Oh well, it's all the same for me. However, I'm more excited about my minor subject, Culinary Class." Jake replies as he tries to finish his food faster so that he could make more time for his afternoon nap.

"Is that so? Well, I like both the Contest Class and the Doctor's Class!" Amber excitedly said her opinion.

Steven looked at Amber with nonchalant eyes as he spoke, "That's so typical of you, Amber."

"Hey! You iron head! What did you mean with that?" Amber immediately snapped back.

Paul ignored Amber's shrieks and Steven's pettiness as he finished his food. It was quite a hearty lunch; despite the conflicts he needs to mediate with. As they finished their food, they went to a tree nearby the utility building, with lush grass surrounding it. They went there to pass time while Jake slept on the grass, with Cherubi sleeping beside him. The both of them looked like they're enjoying their sleep while bathing in the sun. The three continued to have a conversation, with their discussion revolving around their next period's minor subjects.
