After I met up with the others we left the Gym, and since it was still too early for even lunch much less a celebratory dinner, I led everyone to one of the nicer local parks to hang out until lunch. We settled on a nice patch of grass beside a beautiful flower field, and I took out a large blanket along with drinks as well as snacks. We first talked about my Gym battle for a while before moving on to other topics, which had our rather large group split into multiple conversation groups, each talking about something else.
Kinji and I began to talk about Shadinja, with me inquiring how her training was going. Our talk attracted the attention of Yu as well as Aaron, who joined in to inquire what we were talking about, which led to me sharing Shadinja's discovery and how I gave one to Kinji. The other boys had begun to listen in as well when they heard about my discovery of another new species, and they all expressed how impressed they were with Shadinja and my luck at being able to find it when the locals failed to do so. I naturally did not tell them about the cave system since I had promised to keep quiet about that one; I just told them that I stumbled upon the group while I was exploring an eerie batch of the woods while traveling.
Yu half-joked that he hoped that I remember him the next time I discovered another group of incredible Pokemon, new species or not, and that had me think of the Sceptile tribe, but I decided to keep quiet on that front since I was sure that Yu would be unable to get a good Treecko from them based on the test I had to undergo, so I made a mental note to ask Yu if he wanted a Treecko once mine began to breed and a good egg showed up. Since one had already stepped up, the others chimed in and told me to consider them as well, which had Kinji scold the bunch.
Kinji told them to stop trying to freeload off of me and shared that he was planning to find me a Larvesta in return for the Shadinja. That had them give Kinji a surprised look, and I chose to step in and clear up that I told him that Kinji didn't have to do that, but that he insisted. Still, I used this chance to do something that I had been planning to do for a long time. I made sure I had the attention of everyone, including the other (conversation) groups, as in the ladies, before I asked in the open if anyone was interested in very high-potential Magikarp. My parents paid attention as well, though they already had their Gyarados, so they wouldn't be wanting or getting another Magikarp.
Either way, I made sure that everyone knew that I was talking about top-of-the-line 5-star Magikarp here, with a good chance of reaching 6-stars within their lives as long as they took good care of them since the ones I was planning to gift them were blue and deep blue potential ones. I also made it clear that this was a gift from me and not an exchange, so I did not want them to bring up anything like giving me something in return. I stared at Kinji when I said the last bit, and he smiled unrepentantly at me while looking back calmly.
Considering that Misty just like my parents already had a Gyarados, I offered them and Rose who also had a Magikarp a talented Feebas instead. That had most of the girls ask for a Feebas instead of a Magikarp as well, and Takeshi also ended up joining that Feebas train. Takeshi revealed that he had caught a Magikarp last year. He added that he had been training as well as bonding with Magikarp since then in preparation for its evolution since a proper positive bond with a Magikarp before its evolution was indispensable to avoid Gyarados being unruly or even attacking one after the evolution. That served as a training tip for those who would end up accepting the Magikarp, which they noticed and thus thanked Takeshi for the information.
Anyway, Kinji was the only one to refuse my gift, citing that I had already given him Shadinja. Even those that specialized in a type or kind of Pokemon like Akame (poison) and Yoruichi (feline) accepted the gift, so that was what he had to go with since being a bug specialist in that situation was not enough. I ended up handing out 8 Magikarp; Unfortunately, only half of those had deep blue potential, so I gave those to Aaron, Kazuma since he was a flying type specialist, Ace, and Yu. Sakamoto, Coco, and James got blue potential Magikarp instead, though I made sure to choose the ones with the closest percentage to deep blue that I could find. Not that they knew the specific shade of their Magikarp's potential.
Honestly, I had other Magikarp with deep blue potential, but the ones I handed out were relatively young and impressionable which was important for the others to easily/swiftly bond with them. The other Magikarp I had chosen to skip had either reached a point close to evolving or were old enough that bonding with them would take longer and delay their evolution or in case they disregarded their new trainers and evolved anyway, result in an accident. As far as the boys were concerned their Magikarp/Gyarados were slated to attain the fabled 6-star potential as long as they took good care of them, which was true for all of them, though for some it might take longer than it did for others. However, I was confident that all of them would reach that point at some point since they were all talented trainers/people.
Unlike with the absurd amount of Magikarp I had living inside Utopia, I only had four Feebas right now; None of which were good enough to give to my parents, the girls, or Takeshi, so I told them that they would have to wait until the next time we met up for their gift since I had to get them first because I delayed capturing them until now. None of them minded waiting since it was a gift anyway, and they knew that I had initially been planning to just hand out Magikarp. After settling that, everyone laughed at how our little picnic turned into a small fish show as the boys greeted their new Magikarp.
Once they recalled their Magikarp, I took out a few bags of my personal Magikarp supplements and food for each one of them. This was the kind I used to give Stan and not the one I handed out to the Magikarp living inside Utopia's main space. They all thanked me for the care packet, and after they put those away, we moved on to other topics; This time around we talked about something that interested everyone, so everyone participated in the conversation. We spent close to two hours about all the news we had heard about prominent trainers, promising newcomers, stars, and other news related to interesting events in the world.
I made note of a few interesting events that I had not heard about such as the rise of Petrel Lambda from Johto to the Master Class as a Poison Master mentioned by Coco and Akame who as poison specialists kept up of any news regarding other noteworthy Poison Specialists in the world. I honestly did not think much of it aside from thinking that it was nice for the alliance that another Master Class trainer had emerged, but then when the others asked for more details on Petrel, I saw his picture and I had to stop myself from gaping because Petrel Lambda had a striking resemblance to the Team Rocket Executive Petrel from the games/anime. The fact that he was from Johto made the whole thing only worse.
I felt the need to ask for more details on the guy, and thankfully my worries were unfounded. Well, at least the Team Rocket bit since Akame and Coco knew a lot about the guy, including the fact that he had some ties to the criminal side, but they assured me that he was not part of any criminal group. According to them, their elders had said that Petrel's strength made it impossible for him to not become part of the leadership of any group he joined, but his personality made him clash with anyone trying to boss him around, which was why he acted alone. So far all he did was skirt the line of what was allowed by the alliance, which for people of the champion and master class was wider than for regular trainers.
That did fit with the little bit I remembered on Petrel I remembered from canon, and honestly, I was just happy that the guy was not a full-blown bad guy even if he was apparently something of a part-time criminal, which might change for the better now that he was a master. Aside from Petrel, the news that was the most interesting was on Drayton, who turned out to be the grandson of Dragon Master Drayden. Apparently, Drayton registered as a Champion class trainer just a month ago, seemingly having been training/living in the mountains until then on Drayden's order. He remained outside of the public's eyes/knowledge until now, which was honestly unbelievable and I was sure some of the upper class along with the upper echelon of the alliance knew about him.
Either way, Drayton was finally allowed to leave for the wider world, and after registering as a Champion/class trainer he directly provoked the current Unovan Champion who had been spared from the champion challenge carnival that took place 5 years ago. Due to the age regulation set for the Champion position the Unova Champion was not Alder as it was the case in canon, but still someone I knew from canon. It was Marshal Kunz, the fighting type Elite 4 member from Gen V; Real life differed a bit since here Marshal was a relatively young Champion Class trainer who earned the title of Unova Champion 12 years ago. I said relatively young because at 54 Marshal was young compared to how long Champion class trainers could live, which showed because he looked no different than any other 22-24 year old out there.
Drayton was 38, which put him in the same age range as Lance who was 2 years younger. It also meant that Marshal was a full 20 years older. That difference along with some arrogance on Drayton's part was likely what allowed Marshal to win their Charity Battle since he himself was also a rather talented trainer, which meant that Drayton's considerable talent was not enough to bridge the gap completely. Not that Drayton would have become Unova's new Champion even if he had won the battle since Marshal still had 8 years in his 20-year tenure as Champion, so any title challenge before that could only come from a member of the Unovan Elite 4 or someone at the top of the Unovan Champions League Ranking list, which Drayton as a newly register champion class trainer was not a part of.
Still, even if he lost, it was a battle between a regional Champion and a promising opponent, so we decided to watch the battle online since only Sakamoto, who was the one to share the news, had seen the battle among us. After watching the battle, everyone was impressed, and I had to say that both sides fought well. It was just a bit unfortunate that Drayton's ACE Duraludon was at a disadvantage against Marshal's Alpha Conkeldurr since that was what their clash eventually came down to. Either way, shortly after watching that video and discussing the battle between us, we left the park for lunch at one of the nice restaurants here in Fortree City. Since some of them were planning to leave Hoenn before the sky darkened, we held my victory celebration during lunch instead of dinner.
