Kapitel 1: The Altruist

"Are you ready for the adventure, my friend?"

Said by Christoph, the enthusiast man who like adventuring.

"Alright, if you are then, let's go! You woke up late today. A great man has to be always active every hour. But I'm not angry at you. There is no reason to blame only to you. We are humans made of flesh and blood. We can feel pain as well as pleasure. Every human beings can get bored. Nothing wrong with having humanly flaw."

Christoph then handed his friend a handful of sour candies to keep him refresh on the journey.

"If you're interested, every morning and evening, we can do exercise together to make our body lighter and more convenient for sleeping and waking up... Orrr... you can refuse that request if you don't feel like it. Feel free to change mind. Haha!"

Christoph and his friend passed through various fields, forests and hills and arrived at the strange looking tunnel.

"This tunnel looks suspicious and low-key terrifying, Christoph! Are you sure it's safe to enter?"

Said his friend in concern.

"Hmm...well, this cave is the only way to get to the other side. Do you want to go back? It's no big deal anyway. We can always start a new adventure somewhere else."

"It's fine. We've been travelling for days. Stopping the journey here would be a waste. Let's continue."

"Ok! Don't force yourself, alright?"

The two adventurers bravely set their foots into the tunnel of the unknown. Christoph then took his lighter out and ignite the stick he picked up near the entrance. As the more they walked into, the wider the tunnel becomes. They even saw some artifacts next to the walls. More and more, the remnants of hidden civilization became more vivid. Wall paintings, paths and hallways, lamps, residential areas and shops, all within the hidden tunnel of wonders.

"Wow! Looks like no one has ever touched this place yet except the long gone ancient people."

"Do tou think they didn't see this because they're too scared to enter the tunnel?"

Christoph's friend asked.

"Yeah...likely that. But it would be a shame if we were to alert everyone in our town of this discovery. If some dishonest person knows this exist, he would have made profit out of these valuable remains. But hey... it's not like we own this place. I'm not the one to judge who should own this or not. What do you think? Should we tell people about this?"

"I don't know... just keep it secret I guess?"

Christoph laughed and continued walking. Then suddenly something came to his mind.

"Hey, we've only been walking at the straight line in this tunnel. Should we check the other rooms too?"

"Yeah... which one do you want to check first?"

"Let's see...hmm...how about that?"

Christoph pointed at the room which was slightly different from others. Unlike the others, the room was glowing exceptionally.

"That looks like some kind of sacred room. The light from that is unnaturally beyond this world."

Christoph's friend prepared to run into the room but then stopped before he started by Christoph.

"Wait... this must be some kind of trap. In nature, we can see this tactics in some fishes who used the attractive bait to lure their prey."

"So what do we do?"

"I'll go in first. If I died while going in, you get out of here and never come back. This place is unpredictable. Don't worry about the people questioning why only you came back. I already told them the same way as right now. I'll go first as a sacrifice."

"Jeez, you don't need to do that all for me. It's not like you owe me some debts. Why are you doing that?"

"There was a time before you and I know each other. I haven't tell you anything about that incident yet."

"What incident?"

"I once had an old friend, a girl. She was even more hyperactive than I am. She woke me up every weekend morning to play outside the town. She was playful and too social to the point of ironically no one wants to play with her. Whoever just finished hanging out came back with bruises and cuts. I was the only one that care to have fun with her because I sympathize her. It's not that I don't have lots of friends. If they know that I was with her, they would be envious so I kept it secret.

One day, we were as usual, playing little far from the town. To break our fun, the rain started to fall. What is worse is that it was a mild storm so the rain was stronger than usual. I could not see anything clearly...they all covered in mists. What made it even worse than that was we were playing hide and seek. So we were seperated from each other. I panicked and look for her. Luckily, I found her in the distance. But she was not alone. There was a massive cobra heading to her way. So I ran as fast as I can but the cobra was faster. When I arrived, she was already laying on the ground. So from that day on I swore to myself to put others priorities over me. I joined the local rescue team and succeded numerous missions. Whatever type of person others are, I am always second."

"Ahh... that was really horrible. I'm sorry to hear that. It must be really be tragic to lose someone who was already been shunned by society. Did they made funeral for her?"

"She ain't dead tho."

"What?.."

"Yeah, I managed to carry her to the hospital in time. Now she moved away with her parents. I heard she is doing fine over there with new friends"

"God dammit... I thought it was really tragic. Why do I even bother?"

"The thing is I still do feel bad about that day. I feel the guilt of not saving her in time even though she made it. She must have really scared and in pain from the venom."

"You're too soft hearted."

"Yeah, I know..."

After that, Christoph bravely went into the room of uncertainity. Awhile later...

"It's all clear. You can come in!"

To his friend's surprise inside, there were piles of gold and plenty of treasures forming like an ocean. There was a sign above the wall written in foreign language. But it wasn't foreign enough for both of them to have difficulry reading. The sign was written in second language that Christoph and his fellow had learnt in their town. The sign said...

"These valuables are not just for original owners...anyone can obtain it once they finds it."

"Holy hell, Christoph! Am I seeing it wrong or did that sign really said we can have all these as much as we want?!"

"No, you're not wrong. This is a miracle! Whoever own these once should be honered as an idol!"

"Well, since you have done a lot for me during this trip, I'll let you decide on managing the share."

"How much do you want. You decide first."

"I'll take half."

"Then I'll take my half and use it to improve our town for the better!"

"Really? You're not even gonna look for yourself? Chill out, man..."

"Sorry just a force of habit... I'm still gonna do what I said."

"Fine..."

His friend sighed and then chuckled of Christoph's altruism. Then two of them went back to their town, did as what Christoph had said and greatly improve their society and everyone had a happy ending.
