With no proper armor to speak of, and weapons that were nothing more than crude battle axes, they surged forward in disorganized groups of thirty to fifty, charging at Astranaar from all directions.

It was less a charge and more akin to a death march. Astranaar was surrounded by rivers on two sides, while the other two fronts were elevated highlands covered with towering trees, where dense ranks of archers were stationed.
