"Lauren!"
"This is your last chance. Spill it!"
"If you tell me the truth, I might even let you go—even if you're not just some small fry!"
Jack's words were casual, almost kind, but Lauren ignored him entirely. Dragging his heavy steps, he approached slowly, the weight of the situation etched into his every move.
"Tch…" Jack sneered, pressing his spiked club down onto Kaigan's leg. Though Kaigan's face contorted in agony, he clenched his jaw tightly, refusing to cry out. His stoic determination was that of a true man—unyielding even as Jack planted his foot squarely on the injury, grinding down with deliberate cruelty.
Jack paused, observing Kaigan's unwavering spirit. With a slight nod of acknowledgment, he eased his foot off. A pirate respects a worthy enemy, after all.
"A real man, huh? Tough as nails…" Jack muttered, a mocking grin spreading across his face. "I'll show you my respect…"
Without warning, Jack squatted down and dropped his full weight onto Kaigan's legs with a resounding crunch.
"Aaaaaaagh!"
Kaigan's screams were guttural and raw, echoing alongside Lauren's anguished cries. Snot and tears streamed down Lauren's face as he collapsed in despair, shaking violently.
"Can't stay tough now, huh?" Jack sneered, his tone dripping with disdain.
Lauren, rushing forward in desperation, shouted, "Stop! Stop it!"
"Jack! With strength like yours, why stoop to such despicable tactics?" Lauren's voice cracked with emotion. "Using my son to threaten me—how cowardly can you get? You tarnish your own reputation!"
Jack tilted his head, lazily pointing to himself.
"My reputation? My actions disgust you?" His voice carried a mocking edge as he rose to his feet. "What, you think I should play fair? Fight honorably? Live clean and noble?"
Jack's expression darkened as he leaned in closer. "Let me remind you—I'm a pirate. A pirate! And here's a fun fact—you're looking at a minor. Ever heard of the Minor Protection Laws? Everything I do is just self-defense!"
He punctuated his rant by dropping back down on Kaigan, the force snapping both legs like dry twigs. This time, Kaigan didn't make a sound, he'd passed out from the sheer pain.
"Enough games," Jack growled, his patience visibly thinning. "Talk. Now."
Lauren hesitated, his face etched with indecision. Finally, he let out a long, defeated sigh.
"Fine. Ask what you want. I'll tell you everything—just… promise me you'll let us go."
Jack gave a toothy grin. "Sure thing. You have my word. I, Jack, a true officer of the Beasts Pirates, stand by what I say! Now… start talking."
Lauren glanced nervously at his unconscious son, then began.
"The kings of the three nations—Wetna, Aer, and Cusa—used to be at each other's throats. But everything changed when a single person appeared."
Jack frowned. "One person? That's it? Who is it?"
"She's a woman," Lauren said hesitantly, "a Devil Fruit user, though I don't know the full extent of her powers. She first showed up in the Wetna Kingdom, curing the ailing old king. Then, in Aer, she saved the life of their newborn prince. From there, she traveled between the three kingdoms, healing countless lives. Her eccentric nature and high fees didn't stop people from calling her a savior."
"Eventually, she brokered peace between the three kingdoms. They ended their wars, stopped buying weapons from your Beasts Pirates, and refused to pay the remaining funds owed to you."
Jack scratched his bald chin thoughtfully. "And you're just… what? A side character in this story?"
Lauren bristled. "I'm the military minister of Wetna and the king's brother. I was stationed here to guard against you pirates."
Jack smirked. "Impressive credentials. But those kings aren't exactly saints. Why would they let her roam free?"
"I don't know," Lauren admitted, frowning. "They seemed… almost deferential to her. As if they needed something from her."
Lauren hesitated, then looked at Jack. "I've told you everything. Please, let us go."
Jack swung his club casually, the sound of it striking the ground sending shivers down Lauren's spine.
"Of course," Jack said, grinning. "I keep my promises." He turned to his crew. "Oi, bring me a rope and one of those horses from the ship."
Lauren blinked in confusion. Jack gestured to the unconscious Kaigan.
"Look, his legs are busted, and your arms aren't much better. I'll tie him to your back and strap you to the horse. Makes it easier for you, right?"
Lauren was almost moved to tears. "Thank you…"
"Don't thank me yet."
After securing them to the horse with an excessive amount of rope, Jack gave the animal a light tap. The horse bolted—straight toward the sea.
"Wait! Wrong direction! Wrong—!" Lauren's cries grew fainter as the horse galloped away. His final scream echoed just before they plunged into the ocean:
"Jack! You liar! You scoundrel!"
Jack turned away, shaking his head. "Ungrateful. I did let him go, didn't I?"
At that moment, Holdem approached hesitantly. "Captain Jack… the men have finished rounding up the townsfolk. Only women, children, and elders remain. What are your orders?"
Jack's grin returned, more feral than ever.
"We're pirates. And a pirate should act like a pirate."
His voice dropped, cold and final.
"Kill them all. Leave no one behind."
