"AWOOOOOO!"
HISS
Green smoke came from its open maw.
The undead werewolf extended its claws, razor sharp claws that could cut through Aster with ease.
Feeling alarmed, Aster quickly sent a few moderate-sized negative fireballs toward it.
The lich quickly hid behind the werewolf who had its hollow green eyes set on the upcoming fireballs.
SLASH
The air hissed as something cut through it with superb speed. The right claws of the undead slashed against the first fireball.
BOOM
Pale light shone and expelled the darkness of the night for a split second.
The rest of the negative fireballs followed suit and ended up getting slashed.
BOOM
BOOM
As soon as the werewolf's claws got in contact with a fireball, the fireball was triggered. However, the slash redirected the explosion in its direction, and the shockwave was blocked by its body.
In conclusion, the barrage of magic fireballs did nothing but demonstrate the lich's newest addition to its army.
Aster did not wait to see what the result was though. The absence of his system announcing the kill was all the information he needed to dash into the smoke covering the area which they were in a moment ago.
He used his aura to enhance his legs for the initial kick to gain instant momentum and then redirected all of it into his right arm and shoulder for the strongest impact he could muster.
His strength had been augmented with [Great strike], [Vital strike], [Strengthen [EX]], [Berserk [EX]], and [Battle cry] for one massive strike.
In order to fully maximize damage, Aster had created a wind vortex around his fist to act as something like a drill for extra damage and infused the vortex with [Phantom Flame].
Engaging in a fight with a werewolf with such claws was equivalent to charging straight at a professionally trained military personnel with a machete as a weak teenager.
The adult is obviously more skilled and dangerous, basically a death sentence but this was not on earth pre-convergence.
However, this was a different world so different rules apply.
First of all, the army man lacked any muscle. That ought to decrease his strength considerably. Second, the teenager possessed anime-like power-ups.
So as long as Aster deals considerable damage, he could win.
He engaged in a melee fight because his strongest magic proved to be ineffective, barely an inconvenience for the former lunar warrior.
'Why… why am I so slow?'
But things didn't go as he had thought.
He was still going fast, but he had gone faster, much faster before.
Time seemed to slow down. The sparks in the eyes of the wolf grew brighter.
It exhaled green smoke and produced an unnatural sound.
"Fwoo…. hoo…..hwoo."
His insides froze as his heart beat like it was determined to beat a lifetime's worth of heartbeats before the disaster struck.
He could not properly as a terrifying realization came flooding his inner world.
'It is… laughing? Cackling?'
'Something isn't right.'
He wanted to object and retreat as soon as possible but his body did not listen to his command.
He felt rejected by his own body, he felt alien in it.
'This can't be…
Damn it, a skill? Is it an evolved version of [Taunt]? A combination of [Intimidate] and [Taunt] maybe?
Shit, damn itttttt!'
It took a moment for Aster to gather his composure..
'Fuck it, just go apeshit!'
'You want me close? I will make you closer to your ancestors then!'
Aster stopped resisting the urge to go and punch the werewolf's jaw off and went with it.
In fact, he even further forced himself to go faster.
He sped up and caught the werewolf off guard. Aster defied the pressure the it gave off and threw his fist straight at its face.
BOOM
'You deserve that one, you son of a bitch.'
The werewolf was sent flying much to the lich's shock.
BOOM
CRASH
It collided with multiple bone piles, further damaging it even for a little bit.
Aster extended his hand and tried to catch it but alas, it disassembled itself and joined the bone dump below.
KABOOM
Before he could get up, the werewolf dashed back at him with even greater speed.
Like a wolf, the werewolf ran on all fours and leaped at a tremendous distance at Aster.
Aster put his hands in front of him to block the attack but was met with a crushing force on his throat.
It tightened its grip strength on Aster's throat and lifted him up, before jumping up and choke slamming him to the ground.
"Gragh!"
Pain wasn't felt but his restricted airway made Aster dizzy.
The werewolf did not stop, it lifted Aster in the air once again and slammed him on the ground.
And again, and again and another.
The height at which he was slammed was not as big as the first choke slam but each and every one of them decreased his health points considerably.
The ferocious green sparks became full-on flame igniting the deep darkness of its skull. Its eyes became akin to a torch.
There was visible manic emotion within the torch-like eyes of the undead. Werewolves are a naturally battle-driven race, they decide everything by a battle and a test of strength.
This particular werewolf lost in such a contest and as a punishment, his remains were set to rest here for the rest of eternity.
However, the entity between its grasp delighted it. It was fortunate enough to face a strong foe, even in death!
Even necromancy isn't enough to quelch the bloodthirst of those furry warmongers.
It was so happy that in fact, it did not notice the absence of its lower jaw. Not that it would have minded it anyway.
It wanted to assert dominance over this human youngling. That's why it didn't just slash his throat open at first chance. It wanted to prove its strength to him, that he had it still in him, even after death!
That was its first and last mistake.
"Haha… fucking imbecile."
[[Negative fire stream] has been activated]
It was propelled away with great force. It had barely any weight as bones and the fire stream caught it off guard.
Aster immediately got up and started blasting normal fireballs with his other hand in a specific direction.
"Just die already and gimme your skills!" He shouted with a hoarse voice.
The bones in that area were destroyed and the lich was forced to cancel using bone manipulation on itself to erect a barrier.
'There you are!'
A primal instinct took over the wolf. It sensed its new master in danger and despite loving fights, it could not overrule the reason for its second life.
With a fierce howl, it managed to escape the flame stream and ran at Aster.
It ran into Aster and made him fall over, ceasing the bombardment.
His face snapped back to the werewolf.
'Just stay still!'
He got up on his knees and was about to unleash another barrage of bombs aimed at the wolf when he felt something very wrong in the vicinity.
Aster spent a split second glancing back and saw the lich aiming some dark arrow at his back.
'That is-!'
He had no time to dodge it, in that time he had lost noticing the lich, the werewolf sneaked up in front of him and was about to drag him into a deadly bear hug.
In a dilemma, Aster's survival instinct took over.
He canceled his magic and his fist went straight to his knees.
His direction was persevering through the endless memories he would face and remain himself.
Staying alive is being himself.
The aura in his fist took an edge and it went through his knee like a hot knife through butter.
At that exact moment, the arrow of Thanatos was released.
The instant loss in height made him dodge the arrow by a hair's breadth and he twisted his upper body as he fell on the ground.
He sent a wind slash towards the lich and let fate take its hold.
Was his magic faster than the werewolf who was already behind him?
The answer was obvious.
His magic was slower.
It had no hope of surpassing the werewolf who was less than a meter away.
Yet the expected attack from the werewolf never came.
Aster watched in amazement as the lich was vertically cut in half.
Will the RNG bless Aster for his kill? Even I don't know.
