Kapitel 24: I had no choice

"Oh, sorry, my bad. My name is David Stone, and you are?"

"You're funny," she replied.

"I try my best."

Looking at her, David immediately began to pity the entire team for some reason.

Hank was still a teenager, and Jean here would soon turn ten years old. The entire team was young and would soon face the greatest tragedies mankind had yet to witness.

Truthfully, if he had a choice, David would never be a part of this team. He was only here and would suffer because he wanted Charles, a trustworthy telepath, to heal his grandmother.

"Jean Grey. I'm a telepath," she announced proudly.

<Really? Me too,> David replied telepathically.

He didn't know why, but her sense of pride in her telepathy bothered him a bit.

She was nine years old, which meant that she had only recently joined Xavier, which also meant that the accident had happened recently.

Jean Grey's powers awakened just as her friend was killed in a hit and run. She felt and knew everything that was going through the young girl's mind.

Every thought, every emotion was felt, and it was a close friend. Jean shouldn't be proud to be a telepath; she should be traumatized by the fact.

The fact that she didn't care only meant one thing: Charles had sealed off the memory.

<You know, sometimes helping her get through the trauma is better than sealing it off entirely> David said to Charles telepathically.

Jean wasn't developed enough to eavesdrop, even if she was a more powerful telepath than the two of them combined.

<I had no choice,> Charles replied.

<I know, but it will come back to bite you in the ass in the most painful way possible.>

<Is that a certainty?>

<You have no idea what she is, do you?>

<Then I will begin making arrangements for proper therapy, then.>

<Search the Cheyenne reservation in Arizona. There is a mutant mechanic there who should be able to create psionic blockers powerful enough to keep her,> David advised.

Even as he spoke, he saw and felt the future warping. The timelines shifted and warped, creating thousands more and eliminating many more.

This was a risky plan, but it was the best one they had at the moment. He might not want to help the X-Men much, but this was a matter of cosmic affair.

He was involved, whether he liked it or not.

<I will see what I can do,> Charles replied.

While the two discussed, David still remained in telepathic discussion with Jean, even though he was a full-grown man and saw Jean as nothing more than a child.

Jean didn't see him that way, as she immediately began to bombard him with questions such as his favorite show... which surprisingly stumped him for a bit.

His family had a TV, but he had never used it, nor had he ever paid attention to it. He had access to an infinite number of timelines worth of TV shows.

It took him a while to quickly determine the TV shows that were ongoing in this timeline and his current time period before he could answer.

Omniscience really wasn't all that, but at the same time, it was all that.
